We eat here at least once a week… food is always good and all our waitresses have been excellent… it’s a great down home family orientated restaurant.

Well I ordered fried chicken and two sides hush puppies and some old little rolls. My first and my last. I would go back for ice tea. The waitress was very nice. But they put gravy on my potatoes and I didn’t ask for it. But it was the fault of the people in the back… Not the waitress… It was awful.

The food here was delicious! We were in Raleigh, and wanted to meet up with some friends from Richmond, and this came up as a central meeting point. They had options for all of our individual tastes, and it was all wonderful.

Service was awful. It took 20 minutes just to get a menu and there was only 1 other family there. Couldn’t find a table because they were all still dirty and not cleaned off. Waitress was very rude and acted like she didn’t want to serve us. Would not go here again

My husband and I stopped in for dinner around 5:00 on a Friday night. Service was slow as usual but that is to be expected. I ordered the bacon wrapped scallops with cole slaw and fried zucchini. My husband ordered the BBQ platter with fries and cole slaw. The food was pretty good and we got it in exceptionally quick manner which surprised me. Our server was very friendly and attentive. My complaint is the teriyaki type sauce that my scallops were drenched in. They would’ve been way better just wrapped in the bacon. But overall it was an okay experience.

This is definitely a local hangout. Floor was covered with what looked like a dirty carpet, but I am sure it was just stains and age. Overall appearance was the restaurant looked run down and neglected. It had a good number of locals for Saturday in Dec(the Horseshoe Restaurant was closed for the Holidays) Service was a little slow. Food was OK, fries and fish where very greasy(fries were not put in hot oil as the oil went all the way through the fries). Hush Puppies were very good and complimentary. Our Waitress seemed to be in pain as she went about serving tables and she wasn’t very friendly. The other waitresses seemed just fine and were much quicker than ours. Prices were Ok also, $ 5.99 was the low end of a Saturday special. With a $ 1.99 drink and tax and Tip we were out around $ 10 apiece.

The best description; ‘Old School’. I don’t mean that in a bad way. I got there at the transition from breakfast to lunch. I think I was the first lunch customer since I had to ask for the lunch menu. That waitress never came back and finally another lady came to bring me a menu and take my order. I ordered a large minced BBQ sandwich with slaw. A lunch standard since I was a child growing up in this area. The sandwich came quickly and was everything I expected, but not quite as smoky as it could have been. I added some spicy sauce, and I was back to my childhood. The food is inexpensive and good. The style of BBQ is very different than other areas of the country. It is not pulled pork with sweet, sticky sauce. That is not the tradition in this area. BBQ is minced or sliced and you put the sauce on it. The heaviness of the hickory smoke varies from restaurant to restaurant. The sauce is vinegar based, peppery and thin. The further north and west you go in Virginia, the more tomato you will find in the sauce. This is more like NC sauce. I dropped the rating a little because the restaurant could definitely use a good cleaning and some paint. The service is pretty slow, but that is kind of the lifestyle in south central VA.

We live in Nevada, but have been visiting relatives and Wilson Bros. for over a decade. I have a serious craving for this joint and having a minced BBQ tray here with hush puppies and coleslaw is always tasty.

I’ll give it three stars because the food was ok. It is not traditional BBQ, I’ve had this style«BBQ» somewhere else before, but I cannot remember where. The food I ordered, although not the BBQ I was expecting was pretty good. I was not offered butter with my roll and I was not offered butter or cinnamon sugar for my baked sweet potato. My food as served on a plastic plate, not the throw away kind, but more like a cafeteria would use. I found that strange for a restaurant.

I love this place. Very reasonable. It’s where the locals eat. That’s worth 5 Stars in my review. I eat here every time I’m in the area.

We go there for the meaty ribs on Saturday nights when in town. The vegetables are fresh. The fried okra and hushpuppies are awesome. We have learned to sit in the larger side(left), as the service is better.

Cheap and cheerful, nothing fancy, more of a diner than an out & out bbq joint. Place was always busy with locals, no matter the time of day. We ate here 3 times over a couple of weeks(2 months ago) and found it to be probably the best of a limited choice in the South Hill area. I took the pulled pork each time, tasted good with plenty of bark. Generous size portions, excellent fries(which I rarely eat, but better than the mashed spuds here), onion rings were good too. I’m not too keen on the NC style sauce, too vinegary for me, so if you ask they will bring you some ‘sweet baby rays’ from the kitchen… If you’re in South Hill, don’t want fast food, then I think this is the best bet. I would have gone for 2.5 stars if the option was available, but ‘upgraded’ to 3 as the service we had was so good.

I just love going to Wilson’s BBQ every time I’m in South Hill, VA. I usually go for breakfast and I always have to order the fried baby flounder. Everything is great on the menu. There BBQ and fried chicken are also excellent. There is nothing fancy about Wilson’s just good southern food. Wilson’s is usually my first stop when I get off the highway!

This was perhaps one of the worst dining experiences I’ve ever had. I literally got sick to my stomach after eating here. I was unfortunate enough to dine here on Thanksgiving Day. The customer crowd was small when I entered and there was plenty of staff available, so service wasn’t an issue. What did I take issue with? Well, for starters, the ceiling fans are COVERED in dust and grime. It must have been years since they were last cleaned. You can also see the nicotine /smoke stains all along the top of the walls and ceiling. These stains were obviously there long before it was made illegal to smoke in a restaurant. Also, tables all around us hadn’t been cleaned off from earlier customers. Literally, tables and booths covered in dirty dishes were all around us. Flies were floating around, so I know the dishes had been there a while. As to the food — it was stomach-churning. The turkey was slimy, filled with bones and cartilage and generally not well prepared. The«genuine» mashed potatoes were«genuinely» instant potatoes straight out of a box! Their stuffing /dressing was horrid and slimy as well. I couldn’t finish my meal. As to their tea? Don’t bother. My first glass was bearable, but the second tasted like ash had been dropped in it. To top my experience off, a fellow whom obviously hadn’t bathed recently was taking a shop-vac to the fountain machine, sucking up some sort of goop that smelled horrible. All in all, this place is a rat hole. I’ll never go there again… ever. If you have any decency whatsoever, you’ll avoid Wilson Bros. Barbecue. I signed up for Unilocal just so I could save others the trouble of visiting here. Trust me — it’s BAD!

The fam stopped in here on a recent drive down to NC because I was jonesing for some bbq. I got the bbq plate with coleslaw and hushpuppies. My husband got the bbq sandwich. I asked our server what her favorite side was and she said the okra so we got a plate of that too for good measure. The winner of the meal? The sweet tea. That stuff was spot on. The rest. Meh. I’ve experienced better. The fried okra, I’m pretty sure was poured straight out of a frozen bag into the deep frier. The hush puppies were tasty but the bbq fell short. They do have two sauces and I tried both. Meh. I like the kick of vinegar you usually get from good southern VA/NC bbq and this was lacking. So one star for the sweet tea and one star because nothing on the menu was over $ 5!

Holy hella, was this place good! I did the sliced BBQ lunch combo with applesauce and corn on the cob, and I was happily licking my chops after, wishing I had more of the sauce to guzzle. It seems to be the style in this part of the world to do a BBQ sauce that is part vinegar and part tomato, and I’m really starting to like it. And I will most certainly stop by here again the next time I pass through.

Great family restaurant. Service was good. The Sunday. Baked chicken special is to die for. The desserts are homemade and amazing. A wonderful place for a meal that tastes like grandma made it.
