Barton Auxiliary-Thrift Shop

I was on vacation in South Lake Tahoe and wanted to browse some thrift shops for fun. Each shop is different, but I enjoyed this store and went back two other times the same week. I found some great paper items for craft projects, and they were reasonably priced. The store was clean and the staff was nice. I would recommend it.

well if, as the other review states. this is the best I would hatet o see the worst. Besides, you can get forks for a quarter at any thrift shop. in fact they are five for a dollar brand new. Guys. what do they know? Anyhow, this place is overpriced and there is NOTHING newer or trendy. The clothes look like they all came from estate sales and they smell like mildew. The staff are old and grouchy. not a smile in the place. I would never go here again

This is probably the best real thrift shop in South Lake Tahoe proper: real in that it’s a thrift shop, not a consignment shop, not a resale shop. (No offense against those types of places, but when I want to buy a few extra forks, I want to pay $ 0.25 or so each.)
It’s not a huge shop, but South Lake Tahoe isn’t a huge city. The housewares section is solid and reasonably priced. Clothing is somewhat limited, and slightly pricey, but decent. The «bric a brac» section is fine, and decently priced. I bought a set of brand new unopened miniblinds for $ 8.
Hours are a little limited.
There is a free table outside that often has some pretty good stuff on it.
Before you give too much credence to the other reviewer trashing this place with accusations, hyperbole, and ad hominem attacks IN ALL CAPS, you should click through and look at his 9 reviews, of which eight are raging attacks, and one is glowing.
The staff (volunteers) have never been anything but polite and pleasant. Insinuating that they are criminals, without any basis, is offensive and ridiculous.
Sure, I prefer the numerous large thrift shops in Sacramento. But when I need something in South Lake Tahoe, especially housewares, this is my go-​to thrift shop.

THIS THRIFT SHOP IS NOT WORTH GOING TO. THE ITEMS ARE OLD, DIRTY AND OVERPRICED. IT APPEARS THAT THE BETTER ITEMS OF VALUE MAY BE CARTED OFF BY THE EMPLOYEES… I ONLY SAY THIS BECAUSE THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING OF VALUE, AND TYPICALLY THRIFT SHOPS HAVE A MIXTURE… BUT NOT THIS ONE.. WISH SOMEONE HAD POSTED RE. THIS BEFORE I WASTED MY TIME AND ENERGY. OH, ALSO… THE VOLUNTEERS ARE EXTREMELY RUDE… ONE OF THE «VOLUNTEERS» PLOWED A CART INTO ME AND THEN GLARED AT ME WITH NO APOLOGY. (THEY MIGHT BE CRIMINALS DOING THEIR COMMUNITY SERVICE) almost every other review that ive read about this place is negative
