We were spending a few days in South Lake Tahoe during the last week of December 2015 and our first couple of days there happened to be icy roads. We were told that for non 4×4 vehicles(which was the case of our out-of-town car) the local law was to use snow chains, so we had to go buy some and we went to this Ace Hardware by the Raley’s. I asked the employee about the snow chains and he asked me what size I needed, which I did not know and I was trying to understand how to do this so I asked him how to figure it out. He seemed very impatient when telling me to just look at my car tires, but without any details of what to look for. At that point I was thinking I’d just go and take a picture of the tire and bring it to the store so he could help, so I asked if I brought the picture whether he could help us figure out how to install the snow chains(since this was our first time), to which he replied with a tone of annoyance: «Do you think I don’t have enough stuff to do to go out and start helping someone with their snow chains?». That response took me aback and I say«Hey, I was just asking, no need to get ugly with your response» to which he replied visibly annoyed and kind of rudely«You know what man? Have a nice day!» while turning way to do something else. I don’t think I have ever experienced such degree of gratuitous rudeness from anyone. I don’t know if people in this resort town are tired of tourists or what, but we were treated well elsewhere, and I’ve always had good experiences with ACE Hardware in other states. I mostly felt very bad for my elderly father who was with me and had to endure going through this bad experience.

Really enjoyed shopping at this place for years, grabbing stuff when we were on our Tahoe vacations. Bummed to realize on our last trip that they cut the space in half and it’s just not the same. Now it’s just a hardware store, but the staff is still super helpful, but none of the camping and recreational gear they once had.

Broke my glasses right at the bridge. Can’t remember the guys name but he was beyond helpful. I was looking for some shrink tubing. He got it for me and fixed my glasses.!i don’t think you could find a more helpful staff anywhere! Thank you for you help.

Great hardware shop that sells everything you need for home improvement tools and kitchenware. Their service is amazing. It is a great place to stop if you are in the South Lake Tahoe on vacation and need to fix small thing, but don’t own tools like screwdrivers. They are very helpful to fix at the store.

First off, it is a rarity to even have a hardware store in a ski resort mall. Nonetheless, their prices are average. Staff is always VERY helpful and kind. The store is always very clean. They also do business accounts for local businesses. They recently added a kitchen/homewares section, which won’t rival Williams Sonoma, but which stocks the basics plus a few frivolous items. One critique is that given their location, they are not a full-service hardware store where you can rent giant machines and the like. I continue to go here because it’s so great to have a hardware store right in town!

This is the funnest and most comfortable hardware store in Tahoe. I have been going there way before they were Ace and I really enjoy the store. It’s clean, well laid out and the staff is amazing! Garret is such a nice guy and stands behind every single product they sell. I feel confident I can shop here with absolutely no issues whatsoever which is RARE! I am an avid fan of supporting local businesses and keeping the money is our area. This store is a great place to do this for because they really care! Doug is a great addition to the store, love seeing the younger generation there and he is always welcoming. Speaking of welcoming: when you walk through their doors you are greeted… every single time! Just love this place, the people and the products.
