I tried this place on date night and it was great! Inexpensive and convenient. PROS: — The drinks were good — not too strong — We were immediately seated and served — The food arrived in 10 – 15 minutes from ordering AND it was fresh(you can always tell if something was microwaved) — 3 margaritas, a seafood dish and an enchilada meal came up to $ 50 wiling tax. Not bad for south orange! CONS: — small bathroom(only two stalls) — hard to find parking on Fridays & Saturday’s I would definitely eat here again!

The food is really phenomenal and the drinks are as well. Stumbled upon this place roaming around South Orange and we are certainly not sorry we came.

One of the better Mexican places in the area. It has been a staple. Food always comes out sizzling and hot. Drinks are great and most of all the prices are in line with the food portions. You will have a great time. The bunelos(dessert with fried tortilla and ice cream and drizzled with a slight liquor) is a fan favorite. I have had just about every meal on the menu except the pork dishes and each one satisfies. The owner Teresa or family member usually walks around and is concerned about the customer experience. That is why this restaurant has lasted the test of time. Keep coming back. There was a room downstairs for rental and it was re-done. Renting is reasonable for cozy gatherings.

I like that this place is family friendly but the food is very disappointing. My kids like eating here, the drinks are good and the service is good, so I’ll give it 3 stars instead of 2.

I always have a good time here! They have usual who come out all the time to the bar area. Their margaritas are THEBEST. I order a half pitcher for like $ 15 and although it looks small that tiny pitcher it’s PACKED with tequila. One pitcher had my friend and I toasted. Couldn’t finish the second one we ordered. The food however I’ve never been crazy about. I’ve ordered maybe 3 times and the food was nothing amazing. I go here for the drinks.

Average to good Mexican food. Been coming here for years and have not had any bad experiences. The 7.95 lunch special is enough to fill you for the rest of the day. Oscar is great. Can’t wait for Cinco De Mayo they have great specials then and worth the trip.

Ordered the beef chalupa and got food poisoning. Was up all night throwing up and in the bathroom. The waiters service was bad too. Worse feeling ever.

Been coming here since I was a child. Now I bring my own child here. Family friendly on one side. Adult friendly with full bar and excellent drinks on the other side. The entire family loves this place. The food is excellent! One day I’ll be bringing my grandchildren here.

This place is like a restaurant Gordon Ramsey would visit to try to save. The décor and the cuisine are stuck somewhere in the 1980s, like a Disney or resort caricature of a Mexican restaurant. There was no one in the restaurant but they seated us all the way in the back corner. The waiters are nice but the food came out so fast it had to be microwaved. My mole sauce tasted old or stale, just not a nice flavor. The chicken was weird too. And the pile of yellow rice was wholly unappealing next to the dung like puddle of refried beans. Get Tito’s instead; it’s fresher.

So I used to go to Toro with my friend. We would always be seated in the dining area. Usually, we’d be next to a family with their kids(South Orange is very family friendly). The kids are usually well behaved for the most part, but I would always censor what I talked about since there were little ninos around. Finally, one day, I went to Toro with my boyfriend and we were seated at the bar. Way different experience and much preferred. You can really relax, have a drink, and eat some good Mexican food. I date a vegetarian and there are good options. However, the carne asada is good, too, as well as the chicken fajita. When I go there, I’ll either get the chile rellenos or the tamales. During the warmer seasons, there is also outdoor seating, too. Toro Loco is a fun place and I’d recommend it.

The service here is excellent– wait staff were attentive, timely and friendly. The sangria was excellent. Unfortunately, the food was terrible. I ordered the hard shell chicken tacos. The shells were awful– tasted like the ones from a school cafeteria– tasteless and unauthentic. The rice and beans were flavorless, I had to add salt and hot sauce to enjoy it.

Been here a couple of times, when I first started coming here I used to love the place. Everything tasted fresh but is not authentic Mexican but that was years ago… Now it is still not authentic but is no longer fresh… For starters I had went for lunch one day and got the lunch special for the chicken soup it wasn’t fresh, the chicken in the soup tasted like it was leftover chicken and thrown into boiling water after the soup was done, the soup was flavorless… Also ordered 3 tacos 2 beef and 1 chicken, and it came along with retried beans and rice … Ughh where to start… The beef tacos where drench in oil completely inedible, the chicken taco was worse just thinking about it it gets me mad and makes not want to eat chicken… Again it tasted like leftover chicken and to make matters worse it still pieces of chicken skin and fat… Why??? I was at a lunch meeting that’s why I didn’t complain but lord knows if I was able to complain I would had… I had to eat the rice and pretend I was full with the few bites I ate… And the refried beans looked like they opened a can and just threw it on the plate… Now why 3 stars instead of 1 because their margaritas are out of this world. 2 it shouldn’t be a Mexican restaurant it should be a wing spot, because they have wings and they’re addictive. 3 whenever I go the service is quick and the waiter(although the food is horrible) is very attentive.

Used to be great when Doña Teresa owned it, but is now uninspired and bland. Everything we ordered needed flavor– even the guacamole! Drinks were ok. Overall, just a mediocre experience. Food seemed reheated and rice was stale. Such a shame, Toro Loco used to be great and their black bean soup and carnitas were the best! The owners need to breathe some life into this place!

Came here on a late Sunday afternoon and the place was pretty empty. I was expecting a crowded lively/bar, but that was not the case. Not sure if it was the time of day or what. To start off, I ordered the Spicy Margarita and my cousin ordered the Toro Loco Margarita. Both were delicious yet strong. For meals, I ordered the Chicken Chimichungas and my cousin ordered the Chuletas de Puerco. My chimichungas were very average and nothing to rave about — It came with three mini chimichungas a small portion of rice and salad and a large side of refired beans. My cousin loved her pork chops — they were chargrilled and came with the same sides. The service was verrrryyyyy sllllooooooowwwww and you aren’t set with just one server. We had to ask 3 times in order to get a refill on salsa. Overall its an OK place to grab Mexican or a drink if you are in the area.

I’ve been coming to Toro Loco for as long as I can remember and it will always be my favorite for Mexican food. I don’t even live in South Orange and I’d gladly make the trip. First of all, the service staff has always been friendly. Regardless of if you’re coming for dinner, a few margaritas, or a private party, they are always attentive. The drinks are delicious and reasonably priced. I always get their sangria, but this past weekend I decided to try a margarita here. I got the skinny margarita and my friend got the spicy margarita, which were both great! It’s worth mentioning that their skinny margarita doesn’t have agave nectar. It’s just tequila, triple sec, lime juice, and club soda. I went with friends this past weekend and as a group we got a vegetarian platter, chicken enchiladas, and chicken fajitas. Fajitas usually take forever to come out of the kitchen, but everything was served to us roughly 15 minutes after we placed our order. If parking in the area wasn’t such an ordeal I’d be here all the time!

My cousins took me here for my first time and I definitely had fun. The layout to get in the location confused me at first but it was okay. It was packed and very loud. It was was crowded and we had to sit at the bar and wait for a table. The waiters were all very helpful and efficient. They have a full bar and there drinks were on point. The wait for the table didn’t take long. The food was delicious! We had chips and salsa in the beginning. Then we had quesadillas. After that, my cousin had the fried fish and they place the rice in these cute edible shaped bowls. I had the fajita which had beef, chicken and shrimp, it was sizzling and HOT! The service was fast considering how crowded it was in there. I would definitely recommend someone to come here to eat. The ambiance is nice, there is a tv for the sport fans and its a cool environment to hang out with friends and/or family.

I came here once before after work, today it was for a celebration with a group of 7. For the our group the food came relatively quick too which was good. They accomodated us well. There wasn’t too many other people being served but they had lots of servers for our table. I had the chimichangas and black bean soup side. The soup was ok, wasn’t very much bean in it, I counted 2. The chimichangas were good and filling just as I expected, nothing exciting though. There is plenty of space to sit be it bar or table which is good. the order server messed up my drink order, minor but I clearly told him what I wanted — a club soda, he brought me a sprite. Though the food was good, there was nothing really noteworthy about it. Good prices though which I’d say is the highlight of going here.

I’m giving this place three stars but only because of the location. The food is terrible! I had a quesadilla. Simple enough, right? No. It was watery with sauce and yet flavorless at the same time. My friends and I went there after seeing a movie and it was around 10:30 when we got there. So maybe it’s because it was kind of late? Not entirely sure but it was GROSS. The service was okay. One of my friends found something in his drink. My other friend got a dirty«to go» container. Ew. Don’t go to this place if you can avoid it.
