This place is kind of a «if you grew up here, you would know about it». The first time I walked into this place was a while back and I couldn’t stop thinking about the pizza. I was VERY new to pizza and the second time their service was on point, the pizza options were great, and my salad was delicious and fresh ingredients. I always get worried about those kind of things when going to a pizza spot and ordering OTHER items, but at this given time it happen to be a good situation. Their special was a deal. Two slices and a soda pop for 5.00 bucks. I’m sold, but I ended up getting a slice and salad for 11 bucks. It was a great lunch for our family.

The best pizza around … The ground sausage pie is amazing … I travel 30 minutes to get this pizza because nothing compares … Also 2 slices and a bottle of soda for 6 … Can’t beat it

If only people would sit inside and eat it. The pies are magical. Not as good delivered. Always order an xl for better texture. Ground sausage a must.

I only have one complaint here. The sauce is very sweet. I personally don’t like that. The crust is great! I love the thin crunchy crust. The cheese and pepperoni taste good as well. I just don’t like the sweet sauce.

I don’t know what they put in the sauce, but I think it’s crack which would be crazy since the police station is right around the corner. It’s extremely addictive. It is a sweet thin pie. When I lived close by, I used to devour these. It’s a hole in a wall so I would either order out or have it delivered. I have tried nothing else but just their plane pie and it’s delicious.

Coffaro’s is one of my favorite pizza spots in NJ. Definitely in my Top 10, and I’ll travel for pizza. I feel like this is one hidden gem that has managed to somehow miss out on some of the pizza hype surrounding other spot. Coffaro’s is a neighborhood, blue collar institution, having been there for 65 years!!! The plain slice is flat out delicious. A sweet, garlicky concoction that is tough to pin down and sets it apart from other spots. It’s one of those tastes that’s easy to recall from memory. The place has a classic, old school feel to it that takes you back to a simpler time. This only adds to the experience. The slice itself is on the pricier side($ 3 for a plain), but it’s worth grabbing a few slices. Get the individual small pie for $ 10, and you’ll be fine. Love this place, and hope it sticks around for 65 more years.

One of the best pizza shops around! I can never get tired of eating the plain pizza from here. And if you like sausage, you can get it into the sauce. I really never had the other stuff here but I’m sure it’s good. The inside isn’t updated like many pizza shops you see in the area but who cares. The pizza is great and I would recommend to anyone driving in the area. CASHONLY

Coffaro’s is by far my favorite pizza place. I used to eat there a lot as a kid growing up in South River. Any time I drive back to New Jersey I make sure to stop here. The crust is thin and the sauce is sweet. I ate here a couple of weeks ago and it still looks like it did 30+ years ago when I was a kid.

Coffaros Pizza is not known for their great looks on the décor or on the shape of their pies. They do have a sauce that stands out different from the rest. I can’t say it’s the best pizza I have ever had. Actually rating this place is very difficult. I wanna say 4 stars, def not a 5. I’m board line 3. Cash only Whats up with the other reviews I’m seeing.“South River isn’t the safest place” your kidding right? The town is only 2.81 Square miles In 13 Years 3 murders, Crime Rate In 2011, 84.9 on a US National Average of 319.

Classic Italian-American pizza, with emphasis on Italian, yet with a unique recipe. And Paul is a hottie.

not your standard pizza, and certainly nothing like the new wave crop of gourmet pizza joints, but a very popular local spot. i can’t do it too often, or it gets old, but i LOVE it here and there. i like it well done and with a topping or two. any more and the thin, and delicious, crust can be overwhelmed. the sauce IS a little sweet, but that’s par for the«irregular» pizza course you’ll get there. once you get passed the place being a little divey(i like to see it as charming, rustic, and nostalgic), you’ll almost definitely fall right in with the vast majority of people that have tried this very polarizing unique pizza experience. easily more than ¾ of people really enjoy the product, and probably 10% have no use for it. that doesn’t leave much room in the middle, but that’s just how it is, so do yourself a favor and give it a try. «statistically» you’ll be glad you did.

Excellent pizza if you like a somewhat thinner crust with a sweetness to the sauce. Some of the guys that answer can be quite short/unpleasant on the phone but I guess you can afford to be that way with pizza this good.

My wife introduced Coffaro’s to me years ago and I have to say the pizza is delicious. It is definately our favorite local pizzeria. The pizza has a unique taste to it that sets it apart from other pizzeria’s. I recommend trying Coffaro’s atleast once if you’re in the area, it’ll be worth it. Just bring cash, they don’t take credit or debit which is highly annoying.

Don’t get me wrong, this is a hole in a wall pizzeria. But for what it is, it’s 5star. True to it’s self and roots. There is a special place in my heart for Coffaro’s… Even after all these years, it still looks the same inside. Remember to try the«ground sausage» pie, it’s the best.

Oh my god this place brings back memories. Yeah… the duct-taped wobbly vinyl chairs, crappy tv in the corner, pictures of «Mr. Coffaro» on the wall… my mom used to have an antique store a few doors down from here. I’ve no joke been coming here my whole life. South River isn’t a great town, if I remember correctly. I think someone was murdered down the street a couple of years ago. But damn the pizza is good! Better than anything I’ve had in New York so far. The dough is more doughy than typical pizzas… and I have yet to find a similar pie somewhere else. Definitely worth the trip if you’re in the area… just… bring a bullet-proof vest or something.
