Went in without a clue to replace a toilet for the kids bathroom. Kids were bigger so needed a taller toilet. One thing don’t expect people to come to you. Ask for help and continue to ask until someone you know knows their stuff
Everyone was helpful from Jim in plumbing to Erin and Connor in customer service. Needed to have it installed and hauled away all with 18 month free financing to boot. Awesome customer service could not have expected any better!!!

I don’t want to throw every employee under the bus at Home Depot Setauket. because maybe 10% of them are actually knowledgable and helpful. (These are usually the more senior employees)
But the other 90% of them are useless. They don’t know where anything in the store is. There’s a lot of people standing around with orange vests doing nothing. but they are too busy to help you. Some of them will point and say, «It’s just down aisle whatever.» It’s never down that aisle.
The official home depot website is pretty awful; it’s not even slightly intuitive to navigate or find an item and determine whether it’s in your store.
So you need to call the Setauket Home Depot. Get ready to be transferred 3 times, put on hold 5 times. and get an unclear answer.
So if you want actual customer service, go to a local hardware store or a specialty store.
If you want the cheapest price, buy it on amazon or ebay (yes you can get tools and supplies on amazon and ebay).

This is one of the bottom of the barrel Home Depot locations. Their selection on everything is limited. Today I went to get grub control for my grass of course they had nothing. Then I went to get the fungus control by Scott’s which is pretty readily available also and of course they had nothing. So I went to Lowes down the block and they had everything so you decide.
Also if you’re looking for plants that look like they should be at the dollar store this is a great place to shop for highly overpriced lifeless junk.

Big store with lots of stuff to buy! I highly recommend their pool salt, priced so fairly it was worth the diversion from a day trip to Port Jeff and St. James

Do not buy any appliances from this store!!! I am going through a bad experience with a dishwasher that I purchased here less than a year ago. I am getting no help from Home Depot.

very frustrating, purchased a ceiling fan as a replacement. get home and parts are missing. It was obvious once I opened it that it was a return that was not checked. I went back, wait on line get my refund. They only other 2 they had looked like they were returns also. I picked a different model I opened the box before I purchased and it was repacked also. I ended up ordering one on line and had it delivered. It shouldn’t be this hard to buy anything.

This store have inconsistent coupon policy. One day they accept a Lowes coupon and another they don’t b/​c the item is on sale. Some day they accept the coupon when the item is on sale but not when its on clearance or special buy. I’m talking about the coupon card I receive from Lowes mailing that are $ 10 off $ 50 or $ 25 off $ 250.
The managers just make up their interpretation of policy as they see fit. There is a disconnect from their online ordering system to their store system. If you pricematch with an online order, they won’t believe the pricematch and waste your time making you prove the pricematch when its already commented in the order by their own people. When you order online, they can price match but they can’t honor their policy of beat the competitor by 10% of the difference. They send you the store where the useless manager again depending how he feels, he’ll work with you or not. Useless store manager says they don’t price reputable seller like Northern Tool b/​c its an online shop (with free shipping to home) but their own online people did pricematch it for me.
I’ll stick to shopping with Lowes and other local specialty stores.

This review is directed at the Tool rental dept. I brought my lawnmower in to get the drive fixed. Was greeted by Silas, who was beyond friendly, very knowledgable and professional. He fixed the mowers belt and tensioner while I waited less than 10 minutes. Didn’t make me leave it and come back again, which was HUGE for me.
The whole tool rental/​repair dept was great. They declined my offer to buy them lunch, as they are not allowed tips! (sheesh). So they were very honest as well. Great job guys and thanks!

Service is awful. Had to hunt down an associate and when I found one she was helping like four different people. Couldn’t find the drill battery pack in stock so she pointed me to the website… and said, «I don’t know how to do that.» (Order online). She was trying but clearly overwhelmed. Guy at the customer service counter had a bad attitude when I asked him for help. Seriously? This is why people shop at lowes.

The Skinny:
Messy store, knowledgable staff, better plumbing, electrical, tools & tile departments than the other guys…

This place is terrible. Do not go there at all if you ever want to find something useful, ask an employee for anything, or if you do get a reply from an employee, do not believe it.
Home depot originally started as a company that paid their employees very well. They would hire master plumbers and master electricians at high rates for retail to staff the respective locations. So when you asked the guy where to find a ¾″ union or something he would know. Also if something was not in stock, they would get it for you.
Even the regular employees got paid ok, so if you wanted a sheet of plywood ripped, they would cut it accurately and not act like you were burdening them.
That has changed ever since 2000 –2007 where bob nardelli took over (the guy that got fired and got a 300 million dollar golden parachute) and decided wisely to fire all high paid employees and replace them w ppl making less than $ 10 an hour to make the bottom line higher. Kinda like what Circuit city also did. Well everyone has horror stories of walking into circuit city, and people do not forget bad service. Home Depot will suffer the same fate.
I went to this home depot and simply asked for a 2×4 to be cut to 36 inches. I get home, it is 34.25 inches. I go into the tool corral and ask the guy to get me a hammer drill bit out of the locked cabinet and he proceeds to talk to me in a cocky manner «you know this is for a hammer drill right?» I was like yeahhh or I would not have asked for the hammer drill bit! It is impossible to find someone when you need something from a locked thing too.
I took a lightbulb changing rod down once and some idiot put a squeege on top which landed right in my eye and scratched it, it hurt for a month. They have so many products that are so diverse that you can never determine where certain products would be, and if you asked someone they had no idea either.
Bottom line is if you want hardware, go to a hardware store. Electrical. go to a supply house and same with plumbing. The huge DIY warehouse idea was good at first but home depot ruined it.
