Love this place. Mid-century kitschy goodness with the aqua wrought iron and lit-up fountain. We got the brat sampler and it was about as delicious as you’d expect a pile of bratwurst to be, which is fairly delicious. I’m tempted to give it four stars because I’m just so fond, but the service has been quite poor the two times I’ve been here. Every once in a while the manager will swoop in and make everything right, but as soon as responsibility is handed back to the waiter, it falls apart. We had to get up a couple of times to track the guy down on both occasions, and also had trouble getting simple requests filled. And we’re not exactly demanding customers… I’ll definitely be a frequent customer this summer regardless(I live within walking distance), and it kind of pains me to leave such a low rating. Hopefully they figure out this element!

I’ve been here twice. The first time was to attend the Dances of Vice Fairy Tale Spring Ball. We were enchanted by the waterfall, the fairy lights in lush garden, and the picnic tables tucked away. Our only criticism that night was that service was painfully slow. We waited in a not very long line for half an hour to get our drinks, as the other bar was cash only. However, the price was right and we had a lovely and memorable evening. My husband and I hadn’t selected a venue for his birthday party yet, although he knew he wanted a beer garden of some kind. We decided that night that Brooklyn Bavarian Biergarten would be the perfect place. The staff was so lovely to work with, and I can’t speak highly enough about the warmth and quality of service from beginning to end. The reservationist on the phone, the manager Denise, and our waiter Edi were all absolutely delightful– even when we called to change the reservation number, when our friends didn’t start arriving until an hour into the party, and we occupied a significant portion of one section for 6 ½ hours. They had the table set with red, white, and blue linen napkins because it was Memorial Day weekend, and they had selected a really great table. Although there was the sound of traffic to one side(which they can’t control), there is a babbling brook on the other side to balance it out with the sound of running water, and there was ample shade. Denise introduced herself, and Edi came by every time someone new arrived to get their order. They brought a shot of each of the sangrias to try when I couldn’t decide which I wanted. When the last member of our party’s food order was delayed, they sent a beer on the house. Denise even brought sparkling red, white, and blue candles to put on my husband’s cake. The food that I had was delicious: a large soft pretzel and a plate of pickled vegetables. The pretzel was buttery and just the right amount of salty, and the pickled vegetables were delicious. Another member of our party ordered the cheese platter, which was huge.(We barely even finished it!) Our friends did try the seitan, and remarked that it was odd, and not breaded. However, I have to give props to the beer garden to having so many vegetarian selections… that’s not common at German style beer gardens, and it’s something that i always notice and appreciate. And yes, there are some touches(such as statues) that don’t quite fit the theme… but to be honest, I find them endearing. All in all, two wonderful parties, and we will be back for sure!

I am giving 5 stars because I think this place deserves it. I totally disagree with all the negative reviews because those reviews are not about the quality of food and service, but some not important details and emotions. This place is a great combination of an outdoor space, garden, waterfall, delicious food, price, and service! We came on a beautiful sunny day and there were not a lot of people. A waitress was very polite and nice. She recommended us a great beer according to our taste. A person who was leaving the place recommended us a home made pretzel. We chose a regular one with a salt and two kinds of mustards. To be honest, we had never tried it before with a beer. It was a huge one, warmed up, delicious, and enough for two people who don’t like overeat! Beer was fresh. Atmosphere was nice, pleasant, and quite. Waitress was so nice and did not bother us at all. We had a lot of privacy. The most fantastic was a manager! We could feel she was very professional and knew what she was doing. She showed us a garden, waterfall, gave us to try some other kind of beers, told us about the future summer service they will have, and offered us a pre-order service when we can just call and let her know we are coming with a company that she can prepare and serve a table for us with everything needed for having a good time! We will definitely come back and would recommend this place to people who would like to have a great time, food, and service!

Outstanding genuine German food and beer! Our server Tania was friendly, charming, and funny. Denise and Michael, the owners, were very kind and accommodating as well — they bought us a free round of drinks! Highly recommend!

My friends and I have been here a few times since it opened. We originally went because we grew up in the area seeing the commercials for the grand prospect hall our entire lives. The first time we went was the weekend it opened and it was super hot, crowded and a little buggy. It was much better on our second visit but I don’t love that you have to get table service especially with a large group all drinking different amounts all arriving and leaving ah different times. You end up paying for someone else’s drinks when you inevitably split the bill.

I think the best way to describe this place is «puzzling». The décor is odd. I will say I have only been in the winter, I would like to come back when the plastic is down. The people are very nice, and their beer selection is OK(I would love to see a bigger selection of german beers).

I still love the atmosphere and weirdness of this place, but I’m downgrading it because the food was so bad on my last visit. I ordered the vegan schnitzel and it was just a few rubbery slices of seitan, not even breaded as schnitzel, with a side of unseasoned steamed vegetables. The cheese pierogis tasted oddly sweet. The potato pancakes had spent too long in the deep fryer. In general, everything was way too greasy. The indoor area is also quite chilly in winter, and they seem painfully understaffed. I’d still drink here when summer rolls around, but they have to work on the food.

I’d come back if I was in the area, but I’m not sure I’d make the trip out here again. Maybe it’s different earlier in the day… I arrived as the sun was starting to set, and by the time it set, this place got cold! A heat lamp or two might do this place some good. Might even help with the ambience. The fountain we were sitting next to had flashing green/blue lights and I didn’t really get what they were going for haha! It was like a weird night club experience. Not very garden like. The service that day was pretty slow, we ordered a pretzel and pierogi and it seemed to take forever! Like twenty minutes and it wasn’t busy. Or maybe we were cold lol. But we enjoyed the food at least. We waited a while for the check too. I will bring a sweater next time and it’ll probably be great.

There are lots of better options for a biergarten experience in NYC. The Beer was good and fresh, but it was a bit warm and not served in the correct glassware. The food was OK but nothing special — nothing I couldn’t make at home with minimal effort. The décor/atmosphere was a little bit like a chintzy resort plopped down in Brooklyn(adjacent to the highway, how lovely). They try to hide the sound of passing cars by having some fountains(more on those later) — you’d need Niagra falls in the middle of this place to mask the constant hum of the BQE. All of the above would usually land a 2 star review, but I am giving this place a 1 because of a particularly frustrating experience. I forgot a pair of sunglasses on my table and left, returned about 10 minutes later after realizing, and they were nowhere to be seen. There is LITERALLY no other place I could have left or lost the glasses. I spoke to quite a few employees, who told me maybe they fell in the nearby fountain — they’d check in a few days when they clean it out(the fountain was too dirty to see to the bottom of it’s 1 foot depth, which is pretty gross). A few days came and went, no call. I called them, they seemed too busy to deal with my situation. I asked them to please check one last time and call me back whether they found them or not — never got called back. Good customer relations when something like this happens are really important, I hope they handle these situations more properly in the future.

This place has amazing, wonderfully fresh décor. The outdoor patio extends further back than you probably think it does, into a small fountain area. It’s connected to a venue that holds weddings, bar mitzvahs, etc. The beers on tap were a bit limited than I would’ve thought for a biergarten, but still delicious nonetheless. Wasn’t able to check out their food menu, but this was a perfect afternoon spot after a stroll down 7th ave from Park Slope. It’s really not far from north Park Slope!

Maybe a Tuesday night isn’t the best time to judge a place, but as neighbors of «Brooklyn Bavarian Biergarten» who have lived by Grand Prospect Hall for years, the idea of having a nice spot to pop by mid-week was appealing. Well, it’s not quite there yet… Let’s face it, in NYC, diners and drinkers clamor for outdoor space, any establishment with a concrete slab and a few plastic seats is going to do ok. It was great that BBB made an effort to create a comfortable and unique setting, with some cool nooks hidden among greenery, water features, colored lights and ample space. But when there are exactly 20 people in an area meant to seat 200, you stick them all in the expansive middle section devoid of any charm whatsoever, so that the two waitstaff could ostensibly keep an eye on them. Of course, this didn’t happen, we saw the two waitstaff standing around a lot near the bar. Only when prompted by a manager(either directly asking the waiters to check on us or when a waiter saw the manager asking us if we needed anything/busing our table) or when waved down they did take our orders. Hopefully this was the weekday B-team? The aforementioned manager and the woman who brought out our food(hostess?) were both friendly and helpful, so we felt taken care of, but it was still a bit silly to be sitting in a near empty restaurant and watching your waiter stare off into space. Most of the food was just off, if not bad. The Reuben bread fell apart after a bite, and the sandwich had almost no sauerkraut or cheese. It was served with steak fries that were brought out of the kitchen with some ICECOLD and some fresh-from-the-fryer-hot. I don’t even want to think too hard about how that happened. The mixed perogies were not good, potato were super, super dry and what were described on the menu as «farmers cheese» perogies were actually SWEETCHEESE. This was made more disgusting by the fact that sauteed onions had been dumped all over all of the perogies, so you got an unsuspecting bite of SUGAR, VANILLA and ONIONS. The beers and giant pretzel were good, and will probably come back for both. And that’s it. Hopefully they will continue to improve, the kitchen and waitstaff is not there yet.

Was surprised how well my experience went. I had some friends go the opening weekend and they said there were some issues to work out– which they have by the time I went. Service was good and attentive, beers were big and a great price, and we were seated by the fountain– which drowned out the other patron’s nosies. Not sure if they will– but they have the space to have band play. Would have been nice to see some local folks playing.

This place is quite atmospheric. I love the charming outdoor area. The service is great and I enjoyed the bratwurst sampler platter. This a great way to spend Saturday night with a friend. I will surely return.

What a waste of a beautiful space! Such potential, but the concept is so poorly executed that I’d rather sit in a basement drinking toilet wine than support this place. — Burly bouncer gives it a weird Manhattan club vibe — weird seating arrangement. Some is table service, some isn’t. If you sit on the non-table service section, you have to buy a drink ticket and then wait in another line to get your drink. I cannot overstate what a terrible idea this is. — food was inedible(we got jalapeño poppers and potato pancakes, which are basically foolproof. A toddler could make these in an EZ Bake oven and they’d normally still be fine. What did they do to this food?) –Most importantly, the owner treats his employees like shit. I’d read this in a few other reviews and was already worried about coming here because of it. Lo and behold, he came up to the table and started interrogating our poor waitress as to why we didn’t have drinks yet. We told him it was fine, that we had just sat down, etc. but he kept at her and even told her how to take a drink order. It was so off-putting we almost left then, and I wish we had.

Super pleasant for a new venture. Mosquitos could be a problem for an evening visit. Security guy Rob at the door is a perfect introduction. Born and raised in the neighborhood we moved into in 1999 when it wasn’t so desirable, wish we still lived around the corner. Hope they open the roof veranda for more seating. Will be back

There are clearly some kinks to iron out. The staff and bartender were all very friendly and attentive. Décor was nice… But didn’t feel like a Biergarten. You can definitely tell this was the patio for the catering hall that they just threw a bar and some Erdinger umbrellas in. Food was ok, definitely not made on site. Potato pancakes were definitely from the freezer. It’s a nice place if you are just looking to be outdoors and have a few beers. But not if you are looking for authenticity.

I am going to be open minded here as they have only been open for a few days. The staff and management clearly is still trying to iron out its kinks as service is a bit disorganized and I saw that there is still some construction going on. It’s a nice outdoor space and I can see it doing well once they can figure out what they want to be. Entering the«garden» it does not give feel of a typical beer garden but as outdoor reception. The bar is there for the employees as there are no stools to sit at and the table set up consists of high tables and low tables that seat 4. the beer selection and prices are adequate and the food menu seems to want to stick to the theme of this place. I had the pretzel bites which i felt were ok but to buttery which when drinking beer it disrupts the pallet. I am sure they will get it together sooner rather than later so I will be visiting them in a few weeks and will update!

My boyfriend and I have been on the hunt for a cheap yet fun place to drink beers outside since moving to Brooklyn a few months ago. We decided to check out this place on opening night to celebrate a solid work week and were pumped on what we found here. 1. $ 11 for a litre of beer! Not just any beer but German beer! 2. Since it was opening night and there were some kinks to work out, the ordering lines were long but ybe head of PR came over to us line warriors as she stated, and gave us free champagne! That was awesome! 3. We definitely took the chance to explore the Grand Prospect Hall and admire the architecture. We will definitely be back soon!

You dreamed about it, it’s been carefully planned, and here it is… the most important day of your life: The Grand Prospect Hall’s GRAND opening of their Brooklyn Bavarian Biergarten. Nothing shy of what the old Grand Prospect Hall commercials portray. This is a lush oasis for lushes– adorned with beer-themed oil paintings, a large stuffed horse, waterfalls and chandeliers. Great prices across the board. $ 6 for 16oz drafts and $ 11 for a Liter. Yes. An entire Liter will cost you the equivalent of an overpriced well drink in the city. Because it was their first day, they had a couple kinks that need to be worked out. A few hours into the opening, the kitchen was backed up with orders and we didn’t get the chance to place a food order. That being said, their staff made up for it. As we waited on a somewhat disorderly & long line, Cathy(head of PR) came to the rescue. She warmly greeted us, asked what drink we would like and returned with a generous sample. Once they get into a solid groove, I would love to come back. Because as one of the paintings states«Brooklynites can’t live on water alone!»
