This place never lets you down. They give you a lot of food and for very reasonable prices. I’m surprised they haven’t expanded out and branched into a much larger chain business. But maybe they want to keep it the way it is, I don’t know. There one location is a little rundown though. The parking lot is not quite paved and when it rains those potholes make you feel like your off-roading as you pull in. The inside needs renovation too. But the employees there are very friendly. Anyway, from getting the loaded baked potatoes with pulled pork, cheese, and bbq sauce, to the fried deep-fried Twinkies dessert, everything is done right. And although I’m not a big fan of ribs, they are pretty much known for them here. This place seriously offers a lot of bang for your buck. If you’re not close to them geographically, they also are at the Big E for about 3 to 4 weeks every year in the Connecticut House selling their specialties. I would recommend them without hesitation. Go hungry though, I warned you.

This it Texas BBQ… not St Louis BBQ, not deep south BBQ. Their dry rub beef ribs are great, and their short ribs are bang-the-table great.

This place has some of the best fried chicken I’ve ever tasted. And the grilled cornbread is simply amazing; moist, but crispy on the outside. Also really love the slaw. I need to go back sometime to try their stuffed baked potatoes; I hear they’re some of the biggest in the area. :)

Update: I ordered take out and the experience was HORRIBLE! The two cashiers were SO busy trying to figure out how to split up a check, for some dine-in patrons they forgot my condiments(butter for the cornbread – I had to ask for it, but at least I got it before leaving). Then I got home and the loaded baked potato had NO sour cream. What kind of MONKEYSHINE is that?! No, I did not call, nor was I going all the way back. Bottom line: I was so impressed with my first visit, I came back only to get less than stellar service from TWO people?! Ehhhtt wrong! That’s all it takes for me – too many other places to try.

Having spent a few years in central Texas, and being smokers ourselves, we were interested to see what this place had to offer. The décor was appropriately done … barbed wire and saddles displayed and NASCAR on the TV … and the homemade chips were excellent! However, the wait-ress took forever(about 15 min on a slow Sunday afternoon) to come back for our orders. The excuse offered was that they were having computer troubles and couldn’t split the check of the only other occupied table in the back room. Food took another ~20 minutes to come out and when it did, it was very disappointing. My brisket was very fatty, but my daughter’s(no picture) was very dry. Neither had a smoke ring or any hint of smoky flavor. The beef rib was similarly tasteless. The pork ribs at least had some rub and may have briefly seen a smoker. All the meat was basically overcooked(steamed?) to make it tender but not dry, and they apparently rely on the sauce to provide flavor. To be fair, the sauces(all 3! of them) were OK(about 4 out of 10). I have no idea what the positive reviewers saw in this place. Bottom line, a better name would be «Tastes Very Little Like Texas.»

We were impressed with the BBQ here! Definitely the best in the area by far. The cornbread was like a dream come true, moist and delicious. The chicken and the baby back ribs were both excellent as well. I have limited complaints — the sides were underwhelming, including the Mac & Cheese which had almost a sour cream taste and wasn’t my favorite. We also had a party of 4 and two meals came out about ten minutes before the other two. Service was great and we will be back!

The best Barbecue in New England. period. No better cuts of ribs, no better smoked taste of pure hickory, and certainly no better portions in all of New England than these guys. Amazing corn bread too! Just on the Ribs alone, they do it 100% right, just like they do in Texas. As the pit master there told me–«we cook the meat first, and the sauce comes second.» The meat is literally so juicy and flavored, you don;t even need the sauce. But god is the sauce good! It’s just like Stubbs BBQ in Texas! Great stuff from these guys– a real winner here in CT!

There was a time when this place was the best in CT and could rival anything down South. We hired them, chuck-wagon and all for two events a few years apart for Pete’s sake. We’d dive an hour, one way to eat here on special occasions. And now we don’t. The consistency seems to be gone. First of all, I have always loved this place because they held to what I believe is the holy grail of BBQ: «Barbecue is not the sauce, it’s what the sauce goes on». We have been here when the meat is sooo flavorful and I would never think of putting sauce on it. But, the last few times, I’ve had to add sauce. Even one of my absolute favorite things here, the GRILLED corn bread, hasn’t been consistent. When we first started coming here you could count on the bread being a caramelized by the grill marks. The last few times, it’s just kind of toasted. I haven’t given up on them completely just yet. I’m hoping these reviews may be a wake up call to them to evaluate their procedures. I’m pulling for you!

i guess i’m just a barbecue snob. i’m from the south and have eaten barbecue in North Carolina, Alabama, Mississippi, Texas, Tennessee, etc… this is just not that good. sauces are not great either. just make it at home.
