Great place to eat! I am glad for once that I did not follow the Unilocal reviewers. I am sorry but for a lunch $ 20 for app + entrée is very acceptable. Also quality was excellent. My wife and I are both French so we know how it should taste and it was excellent. We had soup of the day and fish of the day served with delicious veggies. Some reviewers are probably too pretentious to eat there. The chef was very friendly and even gave us a free desert. We will definitely come back.

Delicious Thai mussels… if only they served it with bread to sop up the broth. French fries were meh(frozen like you get at McDonalds) – you expect better fries from a French place. Staff is lovely, service is great, atmosphere is bright and cheerful.

The food is good, okay priced but a very limited menu and not an inviting ambiance. Also, the girls working there need to learn the art of a pleasant smile

Just don’t even bother. No no no. Get it together, stock your bar & up the ante on your mediocre food. Then call me

I came here today and ordered the pre fixe lunch menu. It was $ 20 for a soup and entrée. I had chicken salad for my entrée. I ate two strips of chicken that tasted a bit off. We were sitting outside and I had my sunglasses on. When I cut into the third piece I looked down and realized the chicken was completely raw and pink. I told the waiter and said I don’t want another salad I only want to be reimbursed. They gave me $ 10 off the bill. So they charged $ 10 for a soup and potentially getting food poisoning. On top of that my glass of rosé was $ 15. When you realize you serve someone RAW chicken, you refund their ENTIRE bill. I am completely appalled by the service and the food here. Completely unsanitary. Hoping I don’t get sick from the raw chicken.

Such a disappointment! The restaurant was hot, the doors open and when we suggested closing the doors and turning on the a/c, he said, with attitude, Well I’m hot too! Really? You don’t get the difference between a guest and an employee? He then plopped down menus and when we thanked him and mentioned another was joining us he was silent, as though he was«punishing» us for mentioning the heat! Drinks came, they were poorly made martinis and it was time to leave. The tension I felt in this place was not conducive to digestion. I don’t know about the quality of the food. I will never know the quality of the food. I would not give it a second try. BTW I have a residence in Southampton, so I was not just visiting as a tourist. Not that it should matter.

A place so pretentious, some needs to send them a rude wake up call! Le Charlot is an attractive nice sized French bistro in Southampton. They have a location on the upper east side, so you would think there is something that bring the people here. First off, the menu is on the pricey side but has that attraction that the food may be good coming out the kitchen… Not in the case. Seated immediately, the server gave us menus and asked us for a drink order. After we asked for a bottle of sparkling($ 12) pelligrino, he was pushing for a cocktail, not appreciated. As you open the menu, the appetizers are in the 20 dollar range, salads with canned tuna, and $ 30 steak tar tar. Not terrible… Right? Those prices make it simple to meet the $ 25 minimum per person, $ 8 sharing plate, and so forth. The service is incredib… ly poor. The server placed us by windows where the sun was beaming at my back the entire time, place was not that full. He forgot our order and came back nearly 25 minutes later blaming the kitchen for making a mistake and asked us for our order again… rookie. Ive used that line when I used to serve, blaming the kitchen is an old one, pal. so nearly 15 minutes later the food finally arrived. And don’t get me started on the food. As i mentioned previously, you would think with high prices the food would match in quality, not in this case. We ordered three separate dished and all of them were served with the same side, some kind of seasoned couscous. It lacked flavor and wasn’t interesting. The mahi-mahi I ordered had the same appearance as if my kid brother made it. Heavily seasoned with cajun rub and it was just awful. The au jus around the plate was a lack luster with a few pieces of grapefruit pulp splashed around. No one on our table enjoyed their food. Did I mention they didn’t give us bread until 30 minutes after… Great job guy, keep up the good work. Next time man up and admit when you made the mistake and perhaps show some extra care to the table for making them sit there starving. A dessert, or even and offer would have been nice. The table next to us was so excited when they saw the menu and once they received their order you saw all 7 of them sit there in silence and displeased with the food. And their server was not any better, because they kept complaining how he forgot a lot of fine detailed they asked about. tsk tsk le charlot. Wont be bringing you any more business. I gave you an extra star for the décor, and nothing else.

Two stars is generous in my opinion. A friend and I went to Le Charlot a few weeks ago for a late dinner at the bar. The place was busy, even for after 9PM. Good bartender, service was attentive. BUT, the food was far below my expectations in quality while far exceeding my expectations in price… expensive, mediocre food at best. The bread was petrified, possibly cut the previous day. Lobster salad was dry, lobster slightly overcooked and UNseasoned, served with a heck of a lot of couscous and not much of anything else. My friend ordered a salad that was… not memorable. Also, the owner was quite rude to friends of ours who stepped in to say hello to us. I won’t be giving this restaurant a second chance. He could have approached with a bit of congeniality. We might have stayed for more drinks if he had. Oh, and the red wine was served a bit too warm, certainly warmer than room temperature.

Came into this restaurant for a nice relaxing lunch on a Wednesday at the bar and thats exactly what I received. Quit place with good vibes throughout and the people who work there made for a great lunch. I ordered the warm chicken salad and Rose although a bit expensive it was totally worth it. While i waited I watched the bartender construct a very intricate sangria. Very entertaining. Overall great experience and will be returning for lunch again soon.

Just had lunch here today. Overall a terrible experience. The food is not great. The appetizers and entrees were served at the same time for some reason. We sent back a cheeseburger that was a disgusting mushy mess and were told by the server several times«the meat is fresh» Well I would hope so, they tried to fix it and did not. We had a hard time getting them to take it off the check. We were treated rudely. It is clear that the management does not care whether you like their restaurant or not.

I am now on day 2 of food poisoning after eating at this establishment! We should’ve known to leave after we were presented with stale bread and the bartender who served us told us that«yes, the bread is bad». I ate the tuna tartare, which I kept telling them did not taste like tuna, however, as i was hungry, I ate it. Bad idea. Should have left after the stale bread and most unfriendly service. I am a long time resident of Southampton. Wish Barristers was still here!

Zero stars. My girlfriend and I had the choice of a 630 or 10pm reservation on a Friday. When we arrived at 10pm we waited about 10 minutes for a busboy to finally seat us Then we waited about another 10 mins for water. This should have been our clue to leave Our drinks finally arrived after about 25 minutes after being seated and the waiter took our order The bread was tough and the butter has no salt The«endive» salad is really what can only be described as a Gorgonzola cheese salad. So much cheese. No escaping every fork was just massive cheese and a little endive — tasty but overpowering after a couple of bites, had to pick out the endive and leave behind at least a cup of cheese The lobster salad was tAsteless. Bland, nothing to it . The tuna tartare was by far the worst I ever had. No taste at all– and not served with wasabi like it was supposed to be The salmon was just ok. Juicy and grilled right but no flavor, the spinach was bland also The service was slow, awful in fact. Our water was never refreshed, had to track the waiter down. He never came to check on us, ask how the food was or anything I ordered an iced coffee and couldn’t drink it for at least 5 minutes as it was not served with milk or sugar . The music was overly loud and not what should be playing in restaurant(old school reggae?) We will never come back. The worst dining experience we’ve ever had

Bland food. The dish was supposed to be served with leeks and came with stock onions. Slow service.

If it was possible I would give this place 0 stars the food is horrible, I had a steak ordered it medium rare and it came out well done and had no flavor. There was no taste of seasoning. When I told the server the steak was over he came back to the table and argued that the steak red and juicy. I thought the customer is always is always right and not have to deal with customer service as poor as that. The steak tartare looks like ground beef you would use for a hamburger. Would I recommend this place to a friend never.

We were looking forward to our meal at Le Charlot in Southampton given that we have enjoyed many meals at the Le Charlot outpost on the UES. Sadly, we were wildly disappointed. The food was, simply put, awful. The spice rub on the fish was so salty that it was rendered utterly inedible. The tuna tartar had no flavor whatsoever. The chicken curry was simply bad. Southampton is badly in need of a great new spot. Clearly, this is not the place.

I just came from Le Charlot. I live here during the summer and was excited to try a new restaurant. Prior to going one friend, someone who does not know food too well, said it was fun at the bar eating beef tartare. The other friend who is a food perfectionist said not to go that the food was second rate and over priced. So, of course I wanted to check it out for myself. I sat at the bar and the first thing that happened was the bartender tried to sell his wine specials to me. I asked what a wine special was. It turned out that the«specials» were previously opened bottles used in a wine tasting to «educate» the staff — decoded-wine bottles brought in to the restaurant by the distributor for consideration as a bar wine on their wine menu – ie: freebies. These were totally second rate wines(I tried one or two samples) but the«special» was that they were the same price as their other rather mundane bar wines. The specials were not worth drinking — I ordered their somewhat mundane pinot Grigio(FIni) which I already knew as a good, reliable, cheaper, summer wine. Then I asked whether I should have their beef tartare or tuna tartare. The staff was split. I ordered their tuna tartare. If you go to Charlot — do not order this dish. The quality of the tuna was terrible and the preparation totally inferior. At that point I chose not to order a main dish. It did not help that the bartender forgot to bring my second glass of wine for 15 minutes. Finally, I asked the girl who was folding napkins at the bar at 6:45PM to pour me a glass. The bartender had totally disappeared for 15 minutes and I found it strange that the folding station would be at the bar during the height of the dinner hour. Here is the bottom line — this restaurant will not survive in Southampton. Here are the warning signs: 1) the renovation started last year could have been done in two months to capture a portion of last season’s business. Whoever managed this process did a bad job. 2) Everyone loves Charlot in Manhattan but is less than enthusiastic about the SH restaurant. 3) the crowd was not very local which is a bad sign. Generally if you go to a restaurant in SH you run into other people who go to the restaurants. This was not a familiar crowd. All three of these signs suggest that things are not working at this location.

Enough choices on the menu to have everybody satisfied –and products freshness garantied. Had excellent gazpachos, cod filet, mussels etc… Tatin: unique ! They offered pasta for the kids, much appreciated. The space is cozy, classy. Overall, a welcoming athmosphere thanks to the owner cheerfulness. We’ll be back for breakfast outside and have a «taste of Paris».

Hard to believe that I am the first to review… Dead center Main St. in Southampton, Le Charlot seems destined to be a go-to place for the Hampton’s in-crowds. The restaurant, opened in November, 2014 is attractive and still very fresh looking. There is a small dining area outside as well as some seating at the bar. Menus are similar for both lunch and dinner with enough choices to satisfy most diners. We liked everything we sampled. But, to be honest, we just scratched the surface. Prices were higher than expected — even for the Hampton’s a burger shouldn’t cost $ 27. That said, I liked my lunch and will certainly return.
