Walked into the store to buy something and got promptly flipped off by one of the employees for no apparent reason this place sucks and should be shut down.

I am not a rewards member. I don’t want to be want to be a rewards member. And I don’t want to be asked every time I try to buy something. And I don’t want to give out my phone number or email to buy a quart of motor oil. I am not interested in a Sears credit card and I am not interested in making any donations. Can I just go buy something without being asked any questions. They have the worst little cesars pizza location in creation inside the store. Eat at your own risk. And if you have to go to the bathroom while your there I feel sorry for you I recommend you hold it in. The garden center looks like the Sahara desert. On a positive note there’s no one ever in the store so you don’t have to worry about waiting on a long line. They are just lucky they won’t allow wal Mart in Southbury or we wouldn’t be talking about this

Worst Shopping experiences ever in retail(and that is saying something). The journey begins with unmarked items. Went to a price checker with another customer who was also looking for one and we both were trying to use it before determining that it was dead. Saw some 16 year old looking kid(with a k-mart name tag) walk right by us and peek over while walking to see what we were doing. Would have been nice to 1) Stop and ask us if we need help or 2) Help us with the machine and determine it was broken then call management and let them know. Instead he just kept on walking. Next problem comes with mismarked items… Got to the register and realized that 2 items rang up incorrectly. When the price was questioned, I overheard another employee saying(what is going on down there). Put all of this together and you get a poorly managed store, and coming from 6 years in retail myself that is saying something. I gave this place a few chances and it had a few too many. Cannot wait until this location faces the same fate as Caldors.

Take it from someone whom used to work here: it’s gone downhill. When I worked here in 2010 and 2011, the store was still one of the cleanest and well stocked KMarts left in the state. Why? Because we still had a night crew! Come to think of it, the night crew were the only people whom were treated well and were encouraged to do a good job. Take away the night crew that stocked up and cleaned the store and you get a bunch of chaos and employees having to do the job of 10 people instead of the usual 6 when I worked there. If customers are wondering why the service is so bad, it’s because this store in itself is the epitome of corporate greed gone wrong and it seems Sears merging with them has only made it worse. The employees are taught to badger the customers to sign up for Rewards cards for fear of being fired, or the supervisor being fired and taking the frustration out on the cashiers and floor workers. The only perk besides a discount is that part time employees can get health insurance, which is rare nowadays and I think that’s probably the only reason why a lot of old timers stay here and suffer on. Don’t get me started on the managers, they’re a whole story unto themselves and I witnessed a customer haul off and punch a manager in front of a store full of people, with tons of children whose vocabularies were expanded well that day. Not to mention there is a ton of favoritism at work here. One girl whom should have been fired for the numerous customer complaints about her was instead steadily promoted to a customer service manager. So yes, this store also rewards mediocrity. Also, I do want to remind readers that the employees are often worn down from the customers as well, so my best advice is to try being nice to them and that will give you service with a smile. A Southbury KMart employee has to deal with entitled Southbury snobs, tons of cranky elderly people from Heritage Village whom will throw a fit if something doesn’t ring up properly and then hold up the line for a price check, or riff raff that pours in because the Waterbury or Watertown locations didn’t have something they want. I do still shop here on occasion for the clearance items, which ARE priced much better than Wal-mart clearance items, but I try to go to Milford instead, since they seem to be run a bit better than Southbury and have a smaller store and less to worry about. One might think I’m nuts for criticizing a former employer like this, but alas, it was years ago and the sad fact of the matter is that the powers that be at Southbury KMart KNOW about all these problems and are so apathetic that they really just do not care. I’m also posting this as a PSA for the people whom are quick to criticize. Try putting yourself in the employees’ shoes and then think before you snap at a cashier for asking you if you’d like to sign up for a Rewards card.

They are still in business because they are the only game in town… and the surrounding towns. The service is terrible to non existant. Talking to management is useless, they are equally rude. The store is NOT clean, disorganized and there is no one around to help you. I pushed one of those«need assistance» buttons 3 times, waited over 20 minutes and no one came. Items are not priced, and if they are they are frequently improperly marked. I avoid this store as much as I can, and suggest everyone do the same.

At one time this was one of the best Kmart Stores in the state, however over the past few years this place has gone downhill in a big way. It seems like there is never enough employees on-the-clock to be much assistance. It also seems like there is way too many items that are not kept in-stock on the shelves. Plus the prices have become extremely hit or miss… but more frequently a miss. For example I came here not long ago to buy some charcoal, I come to find out that the price of charcoal at Kmart is the equivalent to 3 bags of charcoal of the same brand at most other places. I have also witnessed several instances of management treating employees quite badly. I don’t know what else to tell you, this is the only Kmart I go to anymore since most of them are closed and it seems like everywhere you look in the place is corporate greed, bad management, and corner cutting. But I still go sometimes if I need a couple of things while passing by.
