Jardon Eye Prosthetics has been around for years. They are the best of the best at what they do. Literally. People come from all around the nation to come here. Jardon was the first ocularist to develop the plastic eye, when all that was known or used before was glass. There were many accidents involving the glass eyes. For instance, think of taking a brisk walk in winter outside, then gathering with the family around a hot fire. Glass eyes used to shatter right in the sockets.(all these stories and more were recounted with my mum and I, by ocularist eye painter James Liskiewicz) Children come here from around the nation, that have dealt with disease that has taken their eye. War veterans and people who have suffered great injury from an accident come to Jardon. My mum lost her left eye from an accident in her very early twenties, and she decided to get a new plastic eye after having hers for twenty years(also from Jardon). I wanted to come with her to watch the experience of the eye being painted using organic pigments and plastic medium. The ocularist James held the prosthetic up to my mum’s right eye to see the blue colors, and for an hour an a half, paints pristinely, a matching eye, with fibrous threads for veins. It blew my mind. This was a truly rare experience, and very enriching. The care taken in this clinic is ridiculously amazing, and sadly, far from many medical experiences people encounter(rather endure). Losing an eye is extremely sad and for many — the end of a normal life. I can’t give this clinic enough praise, and my mum is so lucky that it is a mere 45 minutes from our house! Ask me if you’d like to hear more tales!
