The new name for Jazz Katz is Back Beat Piano Bar & Grill. The band was awesome, very enjoyable. The bartender Xavion was great and personable. The $ 10 cover charge was unexpected especially since I came to eat, buy food, drinks and enjoy band. The bartender Xavion was very attentive and personable. The food was great, my compliments to chef.

Just aweful! Food sucka! Under seasoned overpriced and very small portions! Service is extremely bad! I mean the servers are untrained and slow so slow. It took them 45 minutes to take an order and 45 minutes for the food to come. The drinks we’re bad, pop qas flat. I have never had such a bad experience. I will Never, ever go back!

Wow! Elegant, the atmosphere is hypnotizing. One of the most upscale professional restaurants I have been to in all of Michigan. The food was amazing and the music was right on point. I can’t wait to go back.

This review is entirely based on atmosphere and the talented artist performing I didn’t eat here because of all the poor food reviews. The hostess was warm and welcoming. My server brought me ice cold beers right when I needed them in a semi-frosted mug he was great! The open mic performers had way more talent than I expected to hear especially on a Thursday night. The only reason I’ve given 4 instead of five is because of location its next to another club with louder music and at time you could here entirely different music through the walls which got distracting. All in all a great place for beer and music.

Awesome time! The seafood Mac was marvelous. My brother loved the gumbo. $ 5 drink specials made my night. Great music! Best part of the night was meeting the beautiful young lady who owns the place. Love to see young people trying to make a promising change in the community!

I’ll start with the positive. I attended for the first time last night as a part of a large party. The music was good & the ambiance was comparable to a jazz club. I read some negative reviews regarding the food & service prior to going but wanted to keep an open mind. I should have considered the sources as gold! We sat down and were immediately served fruit cocktail with diced apple slices in lieu of bread. You could tell it was from a can because it contained tropical fruits. Who does that?!? They do!! We chose to order some chicken wings because we were starving. They brought out four medium sized chicken wings that looked like Mama was back there frying! They were good but such a tease! I ordered the blackened salmon and red beans and rice! They probably took a quick fishing trip to catch the salmon because it took a while for our food to come. When it came my salmon was NOT blackened, my rice was mushy and there was ZERO flavor! I informed the waiter once he resurfaced. He apologized and I chose the shrimp and grits. When I received meal #2 the bowl was overrun with grits, there was CORN in the grits and the FOUR shrimp were uncooked and unseasoned! The hostess insisted that she wanted to make it right and offered there most popular dish… seafood mac&cheese. When it finally came I was no longer hungry and quite irritated. I took one bite and was repulsed! There was ZERO flavor on the macaroni & some brown substance slopped over what appeared to be shrimp topped off the dish! I wanted to throw it at her!!! When finally got her attention she claimed that it was the best dish & people had been ordering it all night with no complaints. I said that our party took up half of the venue, no one ordered that dish and that it really didn’t matter what her opinion was I needed my food to make sense & be pleasing to my palette. The evening was topped off with the guest of honor being served water from a glass that had some mystery furry black substance along the rim. He only noticed it after consuming water and feeling something foreign in his mouth!!! I was thoroughly mortified! It was like watching a horror film!!! There is NOWAY that I will EVER patronize this establishment AGAIN… not even if Jesus asked me. If you visit please stick to listening to the music which is the only reason why it received a star!!!

Not worth the money at all. Great concept but poor execution. Music: awesome! Venue: nice layout, decent location, $ 5 cover charge Food: I ordered the seafood Mac and cheese. What seafood??? I received a large bowl of «ok» Mac and cheese that was sprinkled with 3 baby shrimp and a a handful of tail end pieces of crawfish. Pitiful for $ 26. My fiancé ordered the blackened salmon… the piece of salmon was the size of my palm… not my whole hand, just my palm. That was $ 22. I ordered a side of red beans and rice that came out in a decent size bowl, filled with what tasted like minute made rice and a dry heaping of seasoned canned beans. The waiter offered to take it back and remake because he saw how dry they were too. The cornbread was great and the side order of corn was decent. With this place specializing in creole, I would have expected a much better quality of food for the money they charge. Experience: very nice staff, but I will not be back until they get the menu together. Overpriced for things I could go across the street to Fishbones to enjoy and get my money’s worth.

Came with an open mind despite reviews. The music was great, however next time I will go across the street and eat at Fishbones or Beans and Cornbread. Service was poor the food was cold. Me and several friends sent food back. Never again!

I wish I could give it more stars. I was excited about going and the location. I’m was thinking a jazz club in Southfield. I don’t have go way downtown or to Grosse Pointe. I had a Groupon which covered admission for two and two drinks for $ 20. Not bad. The reviews I read wasn’t very good but I figured I see for myself. 1st nobody paid to get in so I really didn’t need the Groupon and the drink choice was very limited. So we went two beers with the meal and ordered a different drink. Basically we paid $ 20 for 2 beers. We had a bowl of gumbo each and catfish nuggets to share. We didn’t a plate with appetizer no silverware. There was no salt n pepper shaker. Took forever for our drinks. The waitress was not knowledgeable about what alcohol they carry. The gumbo was tasty but the rice in it was gummy. It was so much that went wrong. From where we was sat to chasing down the waitress for our check. Oh when you call to rsvp you leave a message and a lady calls you back from a out town cell number. Missed her called so I left another message. Why she call back the next day after I had called. So we left and went next door to a night club called Duos for a night cap. Ran into some friends and they were like they had been there when it first opened and it was horrible they had hoped it had changed by now. The band was pretty good but no one was really paying any attention. It is so tight how they have the band set up with the guest. They have another area they should use for the band’s. Make it comfortable. Nobody was even in the area and it was much larger. I’ll go back after I hear better reviews. Right now noo! I hope the owners read their reviews and learn from them

Absolutely horrible and I don’t write reviews but this place was horrendous, it took 1 hour to get a drink and all the waiter said was I lost track of you, the water glass was dirty I took a pic wish I could upload it and the food that my companion had was horrible, service was poor, all around bad experience. It has three stars because the band was great last night 2÷28÷15. It was Charles Greene, Ralphe Armstrong and Gaylynn McKinney. When I arrived at the restaurant and saw part of my group of six sitting across the room, I walked in to join her. The hostess got angry and said since we didn’t have reservation at $ 10 per head, I did not have permission to enter. She said she would try to accommodate us as a group. I did get water. Five out of six had arrived by 7:45. For a drink, I ordered club soda and lime. The first time she came back to the table, it was not with her. I ordered it again. Finally, my club soda and lime arrived as well as the last person in the group. It took another 20 minutes for her drink to arrive. Our order for food was not taken until about 8:45. I ordered the wings with peach cobbler for dessert. I did specify buffalo sauce for the wings. The others that ordered the wings did not specify the sauce and were not asked by the server what they wanted and got no sauce on the first go around. The servers that we were required to specify what sauce we wanted. The food came at about 9:45. The wings were average and the sauce tasted suspiciously like Frank’s original hot sauce. The peach cobbler was not very good at all and I couldn’t eat it. The strip of crust on the top waved like a limp noodle. The peach portion was dry and without any character or flavor whatsoever. The only reason I may return is because they have a good music.
