Maria’s Cafe

You won’t find this place by looking for a sign. It is well concealed and buried underground in the basement of a professional building. I discovered it when a few months ago, I had a doctor’s appointment at that building and ventured down to get something to drink after my appointment. Well, Maria’s is a simple sandwich and salad kind of a cafeteria, but a cut above what one would expect. I was surprised to see that they were making breakfast for customers from scratch. I mean breaking the eggs, scrambling them, and making everything to order. So the person in front of me was ordering when I walked in and he ordered a breakfast burrito. And while I wasn’t planning to have breakfast, it was cheap enough and the food being served looked good enough to try. So I ordered the same breakfast burrito with sausage as he had ordered and switched my plan to get a soft drink to a cup of coffee. The whole deal was less than $ 6 and the burrito was substantial, nicely grilled on the flat top after it was assembled and served nice and hot. The food was very good. I would much rather stop at a place like this than go to a Mickey D’s or a Burger King. Today, I had another appointment at the building, but was not feeling up to breakfast, but I did get a cup of coffee just to make sure the place was still there. I was tempted, but will leave my expectations for next time. Maybe I will try a sandwich or a salad.
