Southfield Fish & Chicken

Craving fish and chips late one night and managed to find this place. (Scotty Simpson’s was closed.) This place was just what we needed. We wanted the white fish, but they said they were out, so we opted for a mixed fish family dinner. We got 12 pieces of fish (ocean perch, whiting jack and tilapia), lots of French fries, and a small container of cole slaw. The total cost was about $ 23, which we thought was a very good deal given the amount of food we received. We ordered the food over the phone, and it was ready when we arrived about 15 minutes later. The fish and fries were served hot, and the cole slaw was cool. The fish were dredged in a nicely seasoned cornmeal-​based breading and fried crispy. The cole slaw was also very good, but we wished there was a bit more of it for a family order. We will definitely return.

called in an order, went to pick it up and the idiotic cashier said she forgot to write it down and just yelled it to the cook… So welp, no food for me and I wont be returning… And no apology remotely extentded…

I ordered one of the lunch specials for $ 5.99. I got the catfish fillet with 5 shrimp, fries, coleslaw, and a 20oz drink. It was absolutely delicious! What a great deal! The food was fresh and flavorful. I’ve been looking for great catfish in this area, and finally I found it! I will definitely be frequenting this joint.

Good, fresh fried chicken. Your food is cooked fresh, and served very hot every time. Great little joint to grab lunch or a quick dinner.

Mushrooms are good! Lots of variety and friendly for all ages. I like that they use vegetable oil to fry their food

A soul food joint in disguise – who knew?
I went there for some chicken, but was surprised to see all sorts of «down home» faves in the display case, including desserts!
Was it as good as home? Weeeeeeell. .. no. However, it was good enough to rate it 4 stars and tell you that if you don’t feel like cooking or L’il Mama (or Big Mama) is busy, you can get some satisfaction here and for a decent price. The wait wasn’t bad, either.
If you want dessert, they have them and the caramel cake is cold, and the thick frosting is delectable.
Looks like take-​out only, but there are a few tables towards the back.

The chicken is awesome and the fries are even better! The fish and shrimp are pretty good too! Ordered the family meal for the Super Bowl and was very pleased with everything!

Alright thd oddest thing for me was that the chicken had two different seasoning. I had ordered a 4pc chicken mix dinner; the wing was seasoned excellent but all of others seemed like thwy were just dropped in. It was a 15mins wait which I called in — honestly I didnt know this place was here but my friemd known about it and he alway order chicken/​shrimp dinner which comes with a drink as well.
The only thing I didnt like was when I arrived to pick up my dinner — it was seating on the counter but thanks goodness I wasnt late or the dinner would’ve cold.
I might try this place again.

I reallly love this place! Very afforfable, large portions, friendly service, and most importantly — GREAT FOOD!!!
I go here pretty often because I live so close by… but even if I didn’t, I would still make the drive to come here!
They have a lunch special from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm, which is awesome (especially for a student budget)! $ 5.99 (tax not included) for a huge portion of your choice (see picture of menu!), fries, coleslaw, and a 20 oz kool aid. I got the #4 which is one big piece of breaded tilapia with 5 pieces of breaded shrimp. OMG it was sooooo good! Everything was hot, crispy, fresh, flavorful, and DELISH! :)
I also got the yellow cake with chocolate frosting to eat later at home. It was very moist and yummy! Not too sweet either, so I didn’t feel toooo bad after eating it. Plus, it was only $ 2.75 for the slice!
Other times I get the wing dings… they are pretty good too! (And definitely a good price as well!)
Do yourself a favor and try this place out. Hopefully you’ll enjoy it as much as I do! :)

So my normal regular fish spot is Detroit Shrimp and Fish, but It’s SOOO far to drive. When Southfield Fish and Chicken opened, i thought I would give them a try. It’s good and worth going to if you don’t feel like driving to 13 Mi and Southfield. They have great specials, the family special is a really good price for the amount of food you get. Food is fast, good and the service is super friendly. They have daily specials so check out one of them when you go. There’s a couple tables in case you want to dine in, but it’s pretty much a carry out joint. Ask for extra lemon-​pepper on your chicken, fish or fries. All in all it’s a go. It’s in our rotation for great carry out in the neighborhood.
