MJR Southgate Digital Cinema 20

Is a nice theatre, decent prices, clean concessions and restroom area, nice theatres, screens are nice and the seating is decent could be upgraded but hey it’s not bad !! Popcorn is a hit or miss and the crowd isn’t that bad :)

I took myself on a date to the show I spent a total of $ 18.75. The 1 o’clock show cost me $ 6. I purchased a hot dog a large cherry frozen coke and a cup of cookies that came to $ 12.75. I consider $ 4 for a hot dog highway robbery but there’s just something about those hot dogs at the show they’re delicious. But the mustard pump was stuck and it squirted all over the place how It didn’t end up on my shirt I’ll never know but it was all over the counter and everywhere else. 1 o’clock on the weekend seems to be a good time to go because the show was not crowded and this show just opened up. There were two ladies waiting to clean the Theater as soon as we were walking out of the movie. You know I have to say I don’t think it wouldn’t hurt people to pick up their own garbage as they leave the theatre. there’s trash cans as you leave .why can’t you pick up your own garbage. Yes sir I’m talking to you who sat right across from me and left all your garbage sitting there while you picked your butt up, but left your trash sitting there. In a dream world I’d like to see a Mcdonalds move into one of these theaters with Mcdonalds prices, because I’d like eating my lunch while I’m watching the movie. If anybody wanted to know the movie was” no escape. ” For me it was very emotional and very traumatic. It was a very good movie but I also cried at least three different times, I was tense and jumpy during the movie. it makes me so glad to live in America and you are going to really feel that deep in your heart at the end when they as Americans have to ask for asylum. Generally speaking this is a theater that I usually attend. I do like the epic theater if you haven’t seen that yet I suggest you try it its great. Its very large screen. I saw several movies there including American sniper and Cinderella.

What’s there to say? This place is fairly clean and the picture and sound always seem to be on point. Bathrooms were clean and stocked. My only real complaint is the amount of teenagers working here without much guidance. Service can be bad at times. The young girl selling me my tickets was chatting with another girl about how much she hates working here, while doing her job in public. Smh. Get that under control and this place would be ⁴⁄₅ stars easy.

Pretty decent theatre: ticket prices are reasonable, free refills on popcorn (although I’ve never used that option), restrooms are clean, seats are comfy. I’ve never had to wait long to buy tickets or refreshments. My go-​to theatre Downriver.

Yes! I’m that geek and I don’t care. This cinema house is my meter stick to all the theaters that I go to. Its nice, its clean and its always very inviting inside. A new and improved bar was recently added, which is very cool. I’m not one to drink alcohol when I go to the movies, but its a cool option to my alcoholic friends. Weeeeeeeee!!!
It has ample parking, there’s a roof to keep the elements out, doors that open and close, a lobby area where you buy the tickets, a bar, a concession stand for popcorn and refreshments, there’s carpet on the floor, lights on the ceiling, displays, movie posters, seats, convenient bathrooms, more than 10 theatres (which have seats that recline and their arm rest raises up out the way so you and your mate can cuddle, it has a silver screen, a projection room and the most important bit of all, their arm rest has cup holders.)
The staff is always very nice, and life is always amazing. Like I said in the beginning, this cinema house is my measuring stick for all other movie houses. All the other guys should measure up to this guy or they don’t cut it in my book.

I am giving this theater 0 stars due to the rude response from their marketing director not caring about their customer complaints. I have never been treated so poorly by a company for a concern I had about their theatre. MJR corporate are full of rude workers and you should stay away from seeing movies from a place that treats their customers concern like they do not even matter.

Two thumbs up on the new renovations and a added bar. Ticket prices are fairly reasonable, much better if you’re a student or military. The clapping during the opening has become a downriver tradition I think, not a fan of it, but other than that, I’ve always enjoyed this MJR.

My husband and I love going to this theater. There are about six ticket counters. We use the MJR rewards to track our points for a free popcorn or free ticket. The theater and restrooms are always clean. They have movie posters all around that make cool backgrounds for for pix or selfies. This is a good place for a date or family outing.

Probably the best movie theater around, even if the nighttime showings are a bit pricey. They also don’t run the midnight movies anymore. I once saw a 3 hour movie that started at 12:20am, and the place was a ghost town. The concession prices are also absurd but not unusual for a theater. It’s very easy to just sneak something in to eat/​drink since rarely will an usher be present during the movie (unless it’s a crowded showing). I’ve never once had a problem going here. It’s always clean and well staffed. The staff members are generally uncaring and quick to rush you along, but who cares? You’re there to see a movie, not get served. The screens are huge, and the sound is loud and high quality.
Also, because the place is so big with attentive workers few and far between, it’s easy to watch one movie and then walk to another room for the start of another movie. We’ve done this many times on evenings where we had nothing else to do and didn’t want to pay $ 10 to see a second movie. They also offer free refills on their large popcorn and pop (something that costs $ 10). So, if you’re going to be there for a long time, it’s worth the price.

This is my Mom and her posse of senior citizens’ favorite movie theater. Easily accessible from most of Downriver. They play current films. The screening rooms are clean. The picture is properly framed and the sound is at the right level. Not too soft, not too loud. The employees are tidy and friendly. They play this cool but serious little thing before the movie that reminds people to turn off their phones, don’t talk and don’t put feet up on the chair in front of you or you will be asked to leave. I like places that are serious about their cinema. Me, too. Hey, I hope this place is still here when I’m a senior citizen.

I’ve been going to this theatre since it opened. It was always the place that my family and I would go to for movies. I’ve seen it steadily go down hill in both service and patrons. It’s disgusting and dirty and they do not care about their customers at all. I actually sat in pee in one of the theatres seats. Yes, someone had actually peed in their seats. I complained and was given passes, yet when I tried to use them they said I couldn’t for first run movies. I talked to manager Brian Nelson, explaining to him that I sat in biological matter in his theatre, and he wouldn’t budge. Even after telling me that I was given the wrong passes, and should have been given passes that were not restricted. So unprofessional and my family and I will never step foot in this trashy theatre again.

This theater is a bit older and the parking lot here i also find to be interesting to say the least. Came here on Sunday morning before 12, when the tickets are $ 4.75, pretty good. Concession stand prices are good and i personally love the self serve butter. The seats in the theater are comfortable and everything seems a OK to me. While i do like this one, i personally like the one in Westland way way better. Although both are owned by MJR, so hey i guess MJR is the ultimate winner here.

Theater is over priced, the large popcorn and drinks are half the size of other theaters and more in price. Don’t waste your time here, go to emagine.

Dirty, sloppy, butter and popcorn fixings doesn’t make you want to eat popcorn there again!

So, yes I visited this establishment last night for the opening of Breaking Dawn part 2, whatever everyones got an inner geek (I also go to Spiderman midnight showings). Besides the movie being fantastic, and bittersweet being the last installment, I love the crowd that goes to these premieres. Everyone gets so into it, as opposed to other theaters I have been to for an opening night. The die hard fans all seem to flock here. Not only that, I love the MJR «clap» to their theme song, and the fact that everyone participates. The staff is accommodating, the theatre is clean, restrooms too. Pretzel bites, guilty every time i go. It may not be the most «modern» or «up to date» in the area but the crowd wins me over ever time. I’ve been going for years, and I don’t think that will ever change.

This used to be the place to go to see a movie. I recently went here with my husband, the movie time was right and this place is closer to home for us.
Prices are good, matinée show was $ 5. It always seems to be crowded here when we go. Lots of interesting patrons at this movie theater. Good people watching?
The concession stand is a mess. Sticky, popcorn everywhere. The only thing I do like is the DIY butter AND free popcorn Tuesday!!!
Another pet peeve of mine is that MJR always puts the movies I want to see in the tiny theaters. They are substantially smaller than the huge theaters in the front. But, that might be my fault for not seeing those flicks soon enough or just my (bad?) taste in movies. So sue me for not wanting to see Paranormal Activity 4. Psh.
I’m sure I will return, but I just wish they would hire more staff to clean up and put some of my movies in the bigger theater. A girl can dream!

standard theatre. definitely better than the theatre in dearborn. rewards program is good. been here many times over the years

MJR’s are my preferred theatre.
They offer daily deals and discounts. Such as the before Noon on friday, saturday and sunday $ 4.25 tickets. Can’t beat that one!
The staff is always pleasant.
Everything is clean and kept uncluttered.
Huge screen with great definition.
Sound is over the top. Needs to be turned down a few notches.
The thing I really like is the expectations detailed out on the screen. No cell phone use, no texting, no kicking the seat in front of you, etc. These things do distract from the movie experience and are not tolerated here.

Well, this is my «home movie theater». How can I not be a fan?
Ever since Star Lincoln Park closed (R.I.P.– I worked there for many years), this place has been my go-​to location for movies.
Lobby: Exciting and engaging. Big screen showing movie trailers, lots of posters of upcoming movies.
Seats: Comfortable… they rock a little bit.
Concessions: Typical… pop & popcorn, slushes, nachos, pizza, pretzel bites, candy, ice cream (dippin dots). Free refills on pop & popcorn… although now, I’ve heard the limit you to just 1 refill. Oh, and there’s flavored toppings for your popcorn.
Prices: Moderate for the movies… but there is senior pricing, matinée and student. If you’re feeling sneaky, buy a senior ticket at the automated kiosk. (don’t judge me for knowing this)
Screen & Sound: Nice quality. 20 screens!
Pre-​movie show: ads of local businesses! Plus, movie trivia, music news, etc. and of course, the MJR song!
Midnight showings: these happen pretty often for highly anticipated movies.
Rewards Program: Join it! It’s simple and you just present your card at the purchase of your ticket and concession items for more points. After so many points, you may be surprised with a free pop and/​or popcorn.
Email Newsletter: Join that, too! You’ll get emails about special events there, midnight showings, weekly showtime listings, etc.
Crowd: Okay, so the younger crowd has pretty much taken over. You really have to plan just the right time to go and NOT deal with the teens who think they are grown by going to the movies by themselves.
Security: There’s a security car that rides around in the lot, as well as guards stationed in the lobby and hallways.

I love MJR Southgate!
It’s located on Trenton near Eureka in Southgate. It’s got a great location, which is one reason I love it.
Their ticket prices are very fair… For example, all movies playing before 6 p.m. are only $ 5. They also offer student discounts and senior discounts.
I rarely get anything from the concession stand but when I do, I LOVE that they give free refills on pop and popcorn.
