Service was veryyyyy slow but the place was pretty busy for a Saturday afternoon. I ordered the footlong coney combo with a cherry limeade and tots. The kiddo had a kids meal with a cheeseburger and cookie blast shake. The hotdog was overdone and the bun was dry. The onions were roughly chopped and the chili was okay. Honestly I wasn’t impressed by the food although I’d agree the drinks weren’t bad. The car hops were friendly, but since this is the only sonic close I’ll stick to the tots and drinks!

I’m impressed! The place is super clean. I ordered and received my order in no time flat. The food was hot and fresh. The server was super friendly. And to top it off the manager came out and asked me if I was enjoying my hot dog. A+++ experience.

The 3 star rating is only relevant within the fast food category. It’s not as if this is really 3 star quality food. The supersonic breakfast burrito is awesome. Also be sure to order the tots and a cherry limeade. For those of you that are parents… My kids seem to think its a special treat to come here.

Not impressed with the service at all. They are really slow and many times my order is wrong or they mess it up somehow. All the food is mediocre. I’d rather have wendys or BK. The drinks are great though. #1 complaint… Sonic blasts are yummy but never mixed well. All the candy stays at the bottom of the cup.

This was by the far the worse sonics ever. Made two orders. We got one the other never came we waited 30 minutes. Went up after trying to find out what was going on. They never took the first order! Drive past this place if you can or use the drive thru

I’ve been there twice, and both times they’ve screwed up my order. Won’t be driving out of my way again to go there. I just love paying for food that’s not in the bag… ugh!

I saw the comical commercial for their pretzel dog and had to try it, because the pretzel burger from Wendy’s is delicious. I had never been to a Sonic before, and I don’t think I’ll be going back. It’s rare I say that based on one visit to a location. I ordered the pretzel dog combo with a peanut butter milkshake. Their fries are the worst ever and in very small portions. The milkshake was okay, but it tasted very similar to the ones you can get at Steak n’ Shake for a cheaper price during their happy hour. The pretzel dog was the worst hot dog I ever had, and it wasn’t because of the pretzel bun. The bun was probably twice as big as the hot dog, so it looked silly. It came with bacon, cheese, and onions(but I asked for no onions). It came with a tiny portion of watered cheese and a blob of dried bacon bits. The hot dog tasted like the kind you would break off from a frozen block of Great Value hot dogs and toss in the microwave. It was lukewarm, thin, and had no good taste to it. It definitely did NOT look like the commercial, and while most fast foods don’t look like their commercial counterparts, this one was appalling. My wife(who had also never been to Sonic) ordered the chicken wrap combo, and she said her wrap tasted like it was made a day ago; the wrap was soggy where there was Ranch and crisp on the edges. It made her sick. We barely ate any of our fries.

I don’t know what to rate this at… My sister lives in South Carolina, so I had been to Sonic before there were any in this area. They showed commercials for Sonic for years before we actually had one, and it surely built up the hype. When they first put one in Southgate, the wait was at least 2 hours for the first month or two. I couldn’t figure out why, but like I mentioned, I had already been to Sonic a few times. In the south it is more like their version of Dairy Queen. It’s for snacks and ice cream or milkshakes, not really a «dinner» place. So for snacks or milkshakes I would give it 4 stars, but for a meal, I would give it 1 or 2 stars.

I always WANT to like Sonic. They have tasty sounding things on the menu. But really? I’ve never gotten FOOD from Sonic that I liked eating. Their drinks are good most of the time which is the only reason they get any stars at all. Period. Paragraph.

Slushes and milkshakes are the only things worth getting. Dried out tater tots and super salty burgers and hot dogs… surely not worth the price. I’ve had better hamburgers at McDonald’s.

Sonic by far has the best burgers out of any fast food place, and their chicken sandwiches aren’t far behind. their fries were good but their onion rings tastes like French toast… ew. But the Oreo blizzard thing definitely made up for it in the end: D i highly recommend it

I really only come to Sonic for three things: popcorn chicken, tots and delicious milkshakes. I’ve never had a bad experience here. I tried a burger once. Never again. It’s too expensive, too big and doesn’t taste like much. But the tots… mmmmm. They’re delicious, especially along with an order of popcorn chicken. Their shakes are so damn good. My favorite is hot fudge, strawberry and banana. They use real toppings, not just flavor syrups. I drive out of my way for their shakes. I love Sonic. I wish there was one in Dearborn.

I was very excited for Southgate to be getting a Sonic. We were ambushed with their commercials for a few years and now it was here. I can say they could have just kept this place away. I ordered a cheeseburger, tots, and a drink; pretty basic and easy right? The burger was much too salty, which is saying a lot because I over salt everything. The tots were like raw potatoes. And they serve their drink in styrofoam cups. For a drive-in type stand get A&W instead.

Ordering at Sonic is not easy. Menu font too small — also, too many options. Food ok.

I promised myself that I would’nt comment on fast food joints but here goes: this place is over-hyped. For the money the food is’nt that great! Thank you Detroit! Goodnight!

Sonic… yes Michigan has a Sonic! only one I believe. If you are in the mood for one of their fantastic slushy drinks or lemonades or their many desserts, look them up. Good stuff if you’re ready for a drive.

I could just never understand why metro Detroit gets all those Sonic commercials, until this weekend, when I actually saw the Sonic whilst driving to a wedding reception. Turns out that the Southgate location is the only one in the entire STATE, which apparently warrants the TV commercial assault. After said reception, we decided that we all had to give it a whirl. Even though none of us were hungry. And we don’t really dig fast food. And we don’t know Downriver(no offense, peeps of South Detroit, we just don’t hang). This joint was HOPPING, to the point that«security» had set up parking cones and cordoned off areas to direct traffic inward. Crazy! Of course, we had to go to the drive-in. Parked and perused the too-small and too-crammed menu board. Opted to get some burgers and TOTS(tater tots at a fast food restaurant??? Holy Family School!) but unwisely skipped the drinks, which really are the whole point of the place, anyway. Our server DID come out on wheels, but took the tray away as soon as we were served, which makes for much less convenient drive-in dining. The food entered our gullets and promptly sank to the lowest points of our stomachs. SO greasy, fried, dense, heavy, oily. Duh, I know, one who orders a carton of tots and complains about fried food is one who should perhaps snap a lid on it. But we can at least say that we’ve been there, done that. Fear not — if you hesitate to make the trek to Southgate, just wait a while… apparently 30 Sonics are slated to open in Michigan within the year.
