We now know why it’s called Grumpys — you will be quite grumpy if you stop here!!! Arriving at 10 am, there were tables available inside and out. 2 waitresses were seen, and«Grumpy» apparently is the cook. We were served coffee, ordered our breakfast, and then got a coffee refill 30 minutes later. Then nothing. At 11:00, with our breakfast nowhere in site, a man(Grumpy?) emerged from the kitchen to throw bread to the ducks in the water. We left cash on the table to cover our coffees and left at 11:06. The star is just for the view. Can’t rate the food because it never came. Please for the love of Maine, go elsewhere!

Best breakfast I’ve had in years. French toast was thick and delicious. Eggs perfectly cooked. Be sure to try the maple cream instead of syrup. Service will take time, but who is in a hurry with a view like that? Each meal gets Grumpys individual attention and it shows. Well worth it.

Great food with a fabulous view over Southwest harbor. Don’t be in a hurry. We ordered our breakfast and eventually were served 50 minutes later.

Didn’t actually eat there, after we saw the prices for very modest breakfasts. The setting is cool, right near the docks and with a view of the harbor. But when they’re asking $ 9 for eggs and toast, with an extra $ 3 for bacon, you gotta wonder whether you are in Southeast Harbor or in Manhattan.

Great view! Fast service. Food was good and hot after days of camping. We lived Sherlock the host dog.

If you want to be grumpy, come here for breakfast! Stopped here since there weren’t too many places open for breakfast in the area(which you might encounter as well). However, I walked in and seated myself since no one was there to seat or help me. No one gave me a menu for and I had to find one myself. Eventually, my meal was ordered and served. Service was incredibly slow. I’m assuming the place is only run by 3 people. Food was only ok, coffee was bland. Note that They charge for their homemade toast. They do not tell you this till they bring you your bill. $ 1.50 extra. When my party asked about the charge, they were very rude about the cost and literally scolded our party about needing to pay for the«homemade» toast. Not to be cheap about paying extra for toast, but there is no reason to tell off your customers about how you home make your own toast. Pros: the view, open for breakfast Cons: slow/bad service Overall, I was not happy with how they treat customers here. If you do come here and don’t care about restaurant service, you might come out with a stomach of mediocre food. Just make sure to take a breath and let the view give you a smile before you drive off so you don’t get grumpy.

Grumpy hit it out of the park today! Best breakfast I’ve ever had! The huervo rancheros was prepared in his style beautifully. Grilled English muffin, perfectly poached eggs, and the freshest salsa and avocado… YUM! I could eat that every day. Of course having a perfect spot overlooking SWH doesn’t hurt your dining experience either! Well done Grumpy and Stacy!

Lobster Benedict is award wining. Crab Benedict is just as amazing. This out of the way place right on South West Harbor overlooks the working harbor. The food is amazing. Don’t let the name of the place fool you. Both mrs and mr grumpy are really nice people working there buts off making and serving super food. Thank you Grimpies! You made our trip.

Love this place! Had a wonderful breakfast there this past Memorial Day weekend. Crab avocado omelette was full of real crab meat. Homemade wheat toast was delicious. Very pooch friendly — server brought out a fresh bowl of water and chef even brought out a piece of bacon for our dog. Friendly service, great location. We’ll be back.

— Fantastic Experience, you won’t be Gumpy– This was one of the best parts of my recent trip to Acadia! The ambience: sitting outside on a warm Morning was amazing The coffee : «Organic or somethin’» was terrific I and mugs were refilled as soon as we needed! The food: — poached eggs were great –homemade raisin bread toast was great — the pancake was huge and tasty! — the home fries were paper thin, crispy, and seasoned perfectly! I would come back in a heartbeat! Please don’t change, and keep this a locals secret!

Beautiful location and friendly owners, but the food is very mediocre. My omelet was over cooked and the coffee is not palatable. I would pass on this place and make the drive to the other side of the island for 2 cats.

The food cannot be good enough to justify the wait. It is just breakfast! 45 minutes for eggs over with eight people in the restaurant. Bad reviews appear justified.

Her’s a happy story, briefly told: we arrived on a very busy Sunday morning and were told only one waitress was working and the kitchen also had just one person available. «There will be a wait, a pretty long one, I’m afraid,» the waitress(Mrs. Grumpy?) said. We were in no hurry and sat down. Within a reasonable time(about 40 minutes), our coffee and tea arrived, our orders were taken and our food arrived. We’ve waited longer at Shoneys, and the food there was terrible. The breakfast at Grumpy’s, however, was wonderful: huge blueberry pancakes covered in real maple syrup, silver dollar pancakes just as tasty, bacon cooked crisp as we like, yummy homemade corned beef hash. Add in a relaxing, appealing view of the harbor, a pleasant casual atmosphere and we were sporting big smiles when we finished. By the way, our waitress never lost her cool, and perhaps we helped a bit by making it clear were were in no rush and appreciated her efforts. Unless this sort of staff shortage occurs regularly, we’d heartily recommend Grumpy’s.

Truth in advertising is always a pleasure to find. I’m a New Yorker. Hearing the cook moan and bitch from the kitchen made me. chuckle. I assume he was Grumpy. The server/hostess was resolved and attentive. The food was good. I had the hash which wasn’t great… not bad. not great. But the homemade whole wheat toast was more than worth the trip. The view was fine. And if you find curmudgeons amusing, like I do, then add a star.

Just left this restaurant and had breakfast and a show. When we got to the restaurant we were told by one waitress the wait for food would be 30 minutes and then told by a second waitress that the wait would be 45 minutes. There were a number of open tables so seating was not the issue. We were with friends so waiting wasn’t a concern. After waiting for some time another couple who had been waiting for the 30 minutes decided to leave. The owner came out to confront the couple, threatening to call the cops as they had not paid for the coffee. As another customer voiced concern over the altercation, the owner turned his comments to that individual, telling her and her family to leave. The owner also yelled at the wait staff. This definitely created a stressful environment. Our food when it finally came was good. The wait staff was attentive and pleasant. Not sure how the owner expects to get repeat business with tourists if that is how his customer service skills are displayed.

Went here for breakfast(around 11 am) with a big group of people who have been going to Grumpy’s for years. We sat inside to be in the shade since most of the picnic tables outside are in the sun. Grumpy’s wife is the server of the place and she was pretty busy which was no bother to me that day. You can go walk outside to look at the harbor or climb down the rocks and dip your feet in the ocean, feed the ducks that dwell in/among the harbor or just sit on the rocky beach. I debated between some items on the menu but went for the a poached egg over english muffin with homemade salsa and avocado. Grumpy’s does not change food preparation(I wanted scrambled on top but had to just order as is so I got poached). Oh well. Didn’t matter. It was BOMB. Really great salsa and perfect textures and fresh tasting. Other people in my group got blueberry pancakes(came with fake syrup and no options for real sadly). Anyways, I left wanting more and totally enamored with Maine and it’s awesomeness.

I was a little excited to go to Grumpy’s(mostly because the kiddo woke us up at 6 and I really wanted some good grub). Unfortunately the food was overpriced and just okay. Plus, we got there right at 7 when they open but the griddle wasn’t hot enough for pancakes. That was a bit frustrating.

We went here on a cold January morning and had a great breakfast. Grumpy was under the weather and the waitress was by herself and doing all the cooking. She would deliver food, make sure you were all set, take the next table’s order and go in the back and cook it. Despite this, service was good and the food was great. I had a spinach and feta omelet with a side of home fries and my husband had the huevos rancheros. His homemade pico de gallo was fantastic. Yes, the prices may be a little on the higher side, but so is every other place on Mount Desert Island. The inside of this place is nothing to speak of, but you are on the water with a nice view of Southwest Harbor out the window. It looks like they have seating outside in the warmer months. Definitely worth a try if you are in the area.

Disappointing. Overcooked potatoes. Eggs had ice cold salsa on the them. Overpriced. For this money, you might as well go to Eat-a-pita, or just go to Two Cats in Bar Harbor. There are so many breakfast choices here, there is no excuse for substandard quality. Log Cabin corn syrup?
