Within the last year, I began working a job near the Westfield/Southwick line, an area I have never before explored. Several of my coworkers had suggested the Hash House as a must try breakfast/lunch spot and it has been on my list of places to try for months. I can not believe I waited so long! The place is awesome, great corned beef hash, pancakes, hash-browns, and pretty good coffee too. I have been there several times in the past month now and honestly consider a stop in almost every morning when I get out of work(less than a mile away) The staff has always been friendly and accommodating, and the prices are nothing to complain about! Great local breakfast eatery! I highly recommend it and I will definitely be coming back and recommending it to friends into the future! :) Update: 6÷20÷16 I still totally dig this place. Tried a burger today because there were some raves here on Unilocal and I decided to give one a whirl. Not disappointed! Onion rings are the skinny shoestring type(onion strings if you will, lol) and they were pretty tasty. Great big portion, I have a massive capacity for delicious food in my gut and I gotta say this dish beat me to my limit! I can’t say that happens too often in restaurants. So the«Hash House Patty» is made of beef and chopped bacon and the toppings I ordered all came out all fresh and good quality(i.e. Tomatoes, lettuce, onion, pickle) they offer pretzel buns but unfortunately they ran out today so I got a Bulkie roll instead which was very fresh, and lightly toasted. I recommend getting a side of their«hash house sauce» to dip your onion strings in, it wasn’t what I expected. It was better. It stars out with a unique, yet familiar flavor and proves to be a quite pleasant and polite /flavor sensation journey, right before it sneaks up behind you when you least expect it and gives you a cute little kick in the ss as a finale. It’s a big enough little spark to scare you into thinking«oh man! what have I done!?!» before it’s like«oh just kidding, j/k lolz!» and the heat fizzles out as quickly as it crept in leaving you wanting another taste experience that keeps you hooked. As always, great food and excellent service! I’ll be back!

First off… parking is subpar. Inside the atmosphere was bright and clean! The quality of food is mediocre at best. Our food has either been wrong or cold and the waitstaff should be more attentive. Taste of the food is bland and the omelets are over cooked and dry. There are many other breakfast joints in the area that offer a much tastier option.

i had breakfast there yesterday and everything was great. We got a very warm welcome as we entered and had great service throughout. The menu and specials were are intriguing and the buttermilk pancakes, eggs and home fires were fantastic! And to top it off, the prices are fantastic, especially for the amount of food the give you. I didn’t eat lunch after all of that food. A+ and looking forward to returning!

Went here on Labor Day morning, waited 45 minutes for on omelette and when received it was the wrong omelette, waitress never came back to refill coffee or ask how food was so needless to say, I ate an omelette I did not order and did not want. Service was not good and food wasn’t much better.

I am not entirely sure why this restaurant has pretty low reviews, but I think this place is absolutely delicious. I ordered coffee(which was not burnt, and had a great taste), a ham and cheese omelette with home fries and white toast. The ham and cheese omelette was made with REAL eggs, and the ham tasted like a nice glazed ham that you would have after Easter! It was phenomenal! The home fries were made with REAL potatoes and a lot of them! Also, the toast wasn’t absolutely layered in butter to the point of being soggy, they put the perfect amount of butter on. The service was wonderful, and the restaurant was packed when we got there, and we still managed to get all of our order in a timely manner. Overall, this was a great place to get breakfast at and I will DEFINITELY be going back.

No idea how this place is getting low reviews! Love the taste of their hash! There are a lot of servers and they are very attentive. They also back off when a table may feel overwhelmed.(Watched it happen at a table next to us) My husband had to chicken fried steak and said it had great flavor! Every time we come in town we dropped in, 3 times, and I haven’t been disappointed yet!

You would think that a place called the Hash House would have amazing hash. It was cold and bland. Better off buying a can at the grocery store and saving your money. I will not be going to the hash house again.

The first time I went it was fantastic, the second time was ok but the corned beef hash was horrible… it was sour, like it has vinegar in it. If your going to have it in the name you better make it great. I wasn’t impressed

Went once and it was bad, I found a big nasty hair in my eggs and the hash wasn’t good. No thank you.

I really expected more out of this place. We were seated in a table shoved between another table and the host. My lovely lady had to take a specific seat because there was no way I was fitting(I’m average build). The waitress came to the table a total of three times — to take the order, drop off the food, and drop off the check. The hashbrowns were not hashbrowns, but rather microwaved shredded potatoes. My omelet had HAIRS in it — by the time I realized this I had already eaten the hashbrowns and toast. Not a single hair but two coarse black hairs. No one came to replace it because the waitress simply did not come back to the table. She seemed to like the hash, but I cannot attest to that as I never had an opportunity to try it. After having dropped off the check, I informed the waitress who then announced that there was hair in more food, as if it was common. While they removed my omelette the check was still $ 20 for a wasted breakfast, they didn’t offer to remake it or correct it. Apparently announcing it and embarrassing a patron was proper etiquette. Ultimately it’s not the money that matters for good food, but from what I actually tried it wasn’t worth more than a few dollars. Such a shame.

Love this place. I usually get the«breakfast bowl» and my wife gets eggs Benedict. The food is delicious, always hot and quick. The wait staff is prompt and polite. Highly recommended.

We were driving by to go to another breakfast shop when we decided to give this place a second shot. The start was great. Seat your self atmosphere. The host took our drink order. Two coffees and a hot chocolate for the little one. They came out fast and hot. Then we waited for awhile. Observed people that came in after us placing their order. Then we waited. Eventually a waitress came over and took our order. Friendly girl. Our child ordered a cheese omelette with a side of salsa and home fries, she was going to have a pancake, but the host said they were out of maple syrup because he forgot to buy it on Friday. It happens. We each ordered the eggs with bacon and corned beef hash.(It’s called a hash house, we had to try it). On a side note we had tried the hash once before when the place first opened. It was terrible then. It was puréed or whipped with chunks of possibly bell pepper in it. Kind of a paste like consistency. This time it looked very promising. Nice meaty chunks of corned beef with potato cubes. Looked great! Unfortunately they add vinegar or sauerkraut to it. It tasted terrible. I ordered my eggs over easy. My spouse over hard. They both came out over medium. I guess they only cook them one way. That was no big deal. Eggs are eggs. We both ordered rye toast. I’m used to a nice Jewish rye. It’s a little more expensive so I half expected the«other» rye. They serve what looks and tastes like split top wheat. Again. No big deal. It’s just bread. I ordered the hash browns and my child and spouse ordered the home fries. They looked great coming out. Looks can be deceiving. The home fries were bland. No detectable onions. Possibly not fried. It was if they boiled them down to make mashed potatoes and changed their mind halfway through deciding to make home fries instead. Hash browns were much the same. Warm shredded potatoes. Presumably microwaved. I believe they were served with an ice cream scoop. Bland. If all else fails there’s always bacon! Who doesn’t love bacon? You can’t mess up bacon. I was wrong. You can mess up bacon. My fault I think. I should have mentioned I like it crispy. Actually I should have mentioned I like it cooked. One of my three pieces was. The other two were room temperature and soggy. Not even remotely cooked. Very disappointing. But man, the coffee was great! They were kind enough to ask if I wanted a refill when dropping off the check. At that time the server asked if I was done with my meal as I had placed my napkin on the edge of my nearly full plate. I had eaten the eggs and toast. Also one strip of bacon. One bite was taken from the hash browns and corned beef hash. I said yes, it wasn’t very good. She took my plate as she dropped the check. Never to be seen again. After ten minutes we realized no one was coming back for the check so I brought it to the front area. An older gentleman that I assumed was just another patron due to his interaction with other guests asked if I’d like to pay. He was wearing a really worn looking sports sweatshirt and jeans. Looked like he just came in from doing yard work. He got behind a register making it clear that he worked there. While paying my bill I took the opportunity to inform him of our terrible food, as no one had yet asked us how things were and he clearly wasn’t going to. He seemed disappointed but offered nothing. What a waste of $ 30.

My family and I tried out this restaurant for breakfast. We thought it was good and wouldn’t rule it out in the future but also wouldn’t make it a point to rush back considering the plethora of great breakfast spots in the area. When we walked in we were immediately impressed with the atmosphere. The restaurant was VERY clean which I hugely appreciate! The furnishings looked new and we were very comfortable. In addition, our server was very pleasant and helpful. She was attentive throughout the meal and we were very pleased with the service. The food was just ok and, in my opinion, overpriced — and that’s what drops it down to 3 stars. At the start, we ordered the french toast sticks for my toddler(off the kids menu). This was one slice of french toast sliced up into four«sticks.» My toddler liked it very much and gobbled it up. But I was surprised to see that his small cup of milk was extra and not included in the kids meal. For a milk and one slice of french toast it was much more expensive that the majority of toddler meals in the area. I ordered an egg, ham and cheese sandwich on a water roll with a side of homefries. The sandwich was good and it came with a thick slice of ham. I enjoyed it. The homefries were just ok. They were undercooked and definitely on the bland side. My husband had the eggs benedict. This is not a traditional eggs benedict as it came with large slab of ham instead of canadian bacon. As my husband does not like ham, he was a little bummed when it came out this way. He said the eggs were cooked well and the hollandaise sauce was good. He also enjoyed his hash browns. So overall — we won’t rule out returning but we also find that we enjoy the food at some of the other breakfast spots more and feel we get more bang for our buck at those places.

I really wanted to LOVEDJ’s. I did. It just hasn’t really worked out between us. Although, I do have to say that the service has improved a great deal since the first time I went, which was a complete cluster. I gave them the benefit of the doubt though considering it was a new operation. There are a couple shining elements to the place– the veggie hash is really delicious and when I say CRISP on my bacon, they listen. The staff clearly pools the room as it seems like there are just too many people coming at the table in so many different directions. We will get one person sweeping with water and drinks, then the next with the food and a waitress or two checking in every few minutes. Slightly aggressive. I do like the laid back, family atmosphere and how the waitresses never make a big deal of my son being a lunatic toddler. I just feel like a few tweaks here and there could really make this place so much better. Consistency is key and I do not want to spend money on a place that is hit or miss. After a few tries, we have gone back to our old standby down the road. We’ll try back in a couple of months and see where its gone. I DO predict that it will continue to improve. They have a good product and are open for business in an area of Western Mass that is desperate for good, solid restaurant options. Keep at it Hash House!

A friend and I recently tried the Hash House for a weekend breakfast. We were pretty disappointed. The food was mediocre. The eggs tasted like eggs, the bacon like bacon, etc. but nothing was noteworthy in any way. Our service was odd. There were almost too many servers. My friend got coffee right away, but after our main waitress took our order, any number of other waitstaff kept popping by to «check in» — it was a little overwhelming. And after they visited no fewer than seven times in the beginning of our meal, once my water ran out I didn’t see another server until we were given the bill. I wanted to like this place, but it just wasn’t worth it. I won’t be back.

Service was fair. Omelette had very little egg in it. Took two try’s to get order right. Hash browns were not good and sausage seemed to be only warmed up instead of cooked. Very crowded and noisy… Surprisingly!

Awesome family place, seemed that all the staff was related. There were a ton of people milling about that seemed that they worked there, though not many were helping out. Which seemed to be a good and bad. We ordered the Popeye Omelet and the Forentine Eggs Benedict. Sat down and received our coffees promptly. Hot and as reasonable as to be expected from a small town breakfast spot. Florentine was good, sauce was pretty rich. Came with either hash browns or home fires. She ordered the hash browns and was quite happy with them. The first egg was poached wonderfully, the second was hard boiled. It was pretty awful, it was too bad we hadn’t ordered egg salad. The omelet was fine, nothing to write home about but fine. Downside came to the toast, it seemed that it was warmed in some method that was not toasting. I also noticed that it happened on the English muffins in the Eggs Benedict. Didn’t know if they used a flat top to toast or just dind’t set the temp high enough on the toaster. The home fries on my omelet were pretty under done and not that well seasoned. Over all, the atmosphere was nice. I would give it another go as it figured itself out since it was newly opened. Maybe even the side of hash that I ordered since it was the Hash House. Would have come out not overdone. I saw other tables that looked great. Guess it does not happen to everyone.
