The Little Cake Shop

I have been coming here since they opened. I have not been able to find anything that matches the pastries they make. The caramel is the reason I drive from Texas to this little shop.

I had some time to kill after an appointment on the Eastern Shore, so I decided to go to a bakery and pick up a treat for myself.
After going to two other bakeries and finding that they were closed on Mondays. I found that this place was the third closest to my location and was open.
Upon arriving, I almost left. The place is a small rundown looking building with a paper sign out front next to an industrial looking car lot… Not necessarily signs of success in my book. I bit the bullet and entered to find a cramped store front with barely any goods on display. (Things weren’t looking all that great for me here.)
A lady promptly greeted me and told me all her pastries were in the back getting final touches. (Based on that I assumed they were pretty fresh.) Upon looking at the pricing I decided $ 2.50 per tart wouldn’t stress me out too bad if they turned out to suck. She brought out two giant sheets of cute tarts. I choose three. I also purchased a dozen strawberry jam thumbprint cookies for $ 6.00.
The tarts were delicious. I bought a strawberry cheesecake, pecan caramel and another fruit tart. Crust was soft and melted in your mouth. Just enough for a sweet snack too!
The cookies are alright. I feel like they should be softer. The jam seemed really hard and bitting into them proved difficult as they were really chewy. Wouldn’t buy them again.
Might go back if I’m in the area, but I wouldn’t make the drive back otherwise.

Groupon has led me yet to another adventure.
I wanted to try this cake shop out, purchasing cupcakes first and then if I liked the flavor profile, then I would decide if I want to purchase a cake.
This shop offered cupcakes and pastry items as well. Mostly tart type pastry items. I ordered one of each item and cupcakes as well.
I am not very impressed with their deserts. Its overly sweet, I can barely eat it. The petite fours cake was moist but the coating on the outside, tasted like a simple sugar that has harden on the fine little cakes. The tarts again were overly sweet, my tooth was aching.
The cupcakes were no surprise. Not sure if these cupcakes have gone bad but they seem to have a weird sour taste. The buttercream frosting tasted like it was made with lard instead of butter. The cream cheese frosting was surprisingly good.
I will give this place another chance. I still have the cake groupon and will order a freshly baked cake and will do another review once I obtain this said cake.
