Very happy that Roost is open again! I went a few years ago and was so upset when the restaurant had to temporarily close due to fire damage and necessary renovations. I returned for the first time again last night and was even more pleasantly surprised than my first visit. My boyfriend and I shared a few small plates– brussels sprouts, frisee salad, patatas bravas, and the mussels. We were both obsessed with the patatas and the aioli dipping sauce. We absolutely loved everything we tried and already have a few other options ready for next time. Although we didn’t have room dessert, the cinnamon donuts sounded tempting and we will be keeping them in mind for our next visit. We are looking forward to going back soon!

Back again, braving the snow, and had one of the best best meals I’ve had in ages. Maybe a top 5 meal ever. Pasta and shellfish(a special) was outstanding — tons of lobster(yummy) and mussels(great) and shrimp(fantastic). Pasta was cooked perfectly. Broth was without a doubt special. Hope this makes it onto the permanent menu — a perfect dish. See you again soon Roost… the best little restaurant around.

LOUD!!! The place seemed harried last night. Good food, a limited menu and a tad overpriced. Took 25 minutes to get our drinks and took even longer for our food. We could not even fathom staying for dessert. They ran out of fish, the espresso machine did not work and they could not change the beer keg in time to get us the beer we chose. We ordered one beer and we were brought another without telling us. The waitress did the right thing by fessing up and took the beer off the bill. They should have taken the martini’s off too. Could have just been a bad night. I would not rush back.

Roost is that cozy little place you may have been looking for to call your own. Nestled in the adorable little village of Sparkhill, it is a storefront with vibrant bar full of cool fiftysomethings looking to have a bit more than just a nice meal. The menu was very nice yet doesn’t try too hard to establish its’ culinary presence. My wife had the sea scallops, served in a delicious broth and cooked perfectly. My foodie daughter had the house made fettuccini with duck confit that was just ‘ok’ and was a bit overcooked. My burger with roast potatoes was cooked with what seemed like a great deal of love and TLC… very fresh, perfectly medium rare and firing on all cylinders with perfect bun, cheese and hefty blend of what tasted like combo of ground chuck and short rib meat. The first course we shared the Brussels sprouts appetizer which was to die for… shredded sprouts with ginger and maple syrup. The french toast riff stuffed with goat cheese was almost as good but our Japanese eggplant with chickpea fritters fell flat and not something I’d order again. Our dessert soufflé was nice but not very memorable. Cocktails were generous and service was very warm and professional.

Loved this place! The little town has such old world charm, the restaurant has a great bar, and the food is on the $ my gang and I loved everything. Also at the end of the evening we had a special treat, the chef came out and shared some excellent lemon Cello that he made.

I. AM. SO. EXCITED. I. FOUND. THIS. PLACE! Roost is the perfect Saturday night meal with your best friend or even a date. The ambiance is perfect, and the food is what you dream of! Their menu is exquisite, full of drinks, vegetables, small plates, and entrees. Reservations are a must because the place is small and they get crowded fast. I called at noon for a reservation that night and could only get 8 pm. Plan ahead people! We started off at the bar because our table was not ready, We both had martini’s; my friend a dirty martini and i had the«Grapefruit Dead» which the bartender recommended and it was a sweet alcoholic treat. Then as we ate with both had a glass of Cava with our meal; I had rose and my friend had white. Then when we went to our table, my girlfriend and I could not decide what we wanted because the menu was that impressive. We decided to share so we could try more. We got a vegetable plate of roasted cauliflower with pecans and golden raisins; a small plate of toast full with goat cheese over a truffle sauce with mushrooms; scallops as our entrée over potatoes with onions; AND cinnamon donuts as desert with a chocolate and vanilla dipping sauce. It was an amazing evening becuase of the food. Everything was drop dead amazing and we cleared every plate. We cannot wait to go back and try new items off the impressive and delicious menu.

My mom and I dined at Roost tonight after having a good experience there a few years ago(pre-fire and renovations). The place looks great, for starters, and the staff was friendly. The highlight of the meal was definitely the cauliflower with pistachios, golden raisins, and capers that we shared as a starter. Really delicious and garlicky. I ordered the scallops with herb risotto and mushroom frito misto. The scallops were delicious and really nicely presented. The rest of the dish, however, fell pretty short. The risotto was really overcooked, almost pasty tasting, and the whole dish was covered(not garnished, COVERED) with fried mushrooms, making the whole thing pretty oily. The breading of the mushrooms also flaked off into the risotto and made an even gooier consistency. Not pleasant. While my entrée wasn’t the biggest hit, my mother’s was a lot worse. She ordered the burger medium-rare. While the inside was cooked appropriately, the outside of the burger wasn’t crusted, but *charred* and had a really burnt flavor to it. When our waiter came over to check on us, we were polite, but my mom did mention that her burger had been pretty badly burnt. The waiter’s response, «oh okay,» and walked away. Totally inappropriate response to a polite complaint. We finished the meal with the panna cotta with hazelnut brittle and strawberries with balsamic – totally delicious and a great portion. All in all, a hit or miss meal and a really mediocre waiter. Will probably opt to dine at better options in the Sparkill/Piermont area in the future.

If you are looking for a spot with great food, easy parking and no long wait lines, go to Roost for your Sunday brunch. The coffee, French toast, bacon and their burger are so delicious! Great service, too. We are coming back for dinner.

Since Roost has reopened this year I have dined there 3 times. All meals and service were very good. Tonight, my 4th visit was a sad disappointment. It was very busy which was great for them. I was happy they were doing so well. Unfortunately, by the time we were seated half an hour after our reservation time it only went downhill. The wait staff was overwhelmed and therefore we paid the price. Two hours later we finally got our dinner No apologies. .no gesture of a free drink or dessert. Never even refilled our bread basket. Extremely disappointed by the lack of professionalism I expect from any restaurant.

THISRESTAURANTROCKS! A true culinary delight! Drinks are unique and have good balance. The BVB Lemonade was delicious and wasn’t too strong or weak. The chef and his staff did a great job! The lobster corn soup was simply amazing. The oysters were perfect and tasted so fresh. I love the scallops and new york strip. The staff did a great job and was on point with everything. There are so many places here in the tri state area, but this one is truly special. This place is hidden gem! Yes you can compare this place to any NYC restaurant. Its that good! Try it, you won’t regret it.

In May, we took a beautiful walk on the Rail Trail and when we got back to the parking lot, we noticed this nice looking restaurant. What great luck. We were greeted warmly and had a fabulous dinner for two. For starters we had oysters and brussels sprouts. Entrees were salmon. All food was terrific. Wine selection paired nicely. Our server was perfect. She was there when we needed something and otherwise walked by checking on us without interrupting our conversation. The chef greeted other diners who he seemed to know. Great food, great service and friendly atmosphere.

Great food! The bacon taco appetizer special was sensational. It was served on a naan-style round instead of a conventional tortilla. The bacon chunks were tender and smoky, the sauce flavorful. An added crunch from raw cabbage and radish helped make the taco a really special summer special. Mussels with chorizo, hominy and jalapeño were smoky, tender and delicious. Delightful and attentive service. So great to have a standout neighborhood restaurant to go back to again and again.

Excellent food and service. We ate at the bar, Nick was our server. He was so attentive and awesome. There was another man behind the bar who was gracious and friendly. I highly recommend the Japanese eggplant appetizer. OMG!

I love this place! Drinks are made from fresh ingredients and are unique. The BVB Lemonade and the Gunpowder especially delicious. The specials are prepared with care and delicious fresh veggies fish or meats. The lobster burrito is amazing. From the regular menu, the oysters, slab bacon and patatas bravas are a must. I love the salmon and the scallops. The burger is amazing as is any dish with the homemade pasta. Save room for dessert! My favorites are the crumb cake or the donuts. The staff are attentive. Love this place!

Oh my goodness… Sweet corn soup with warm butter lobster: spectacular! There are no words. First, I ordered the Cauliflower, and the Brussels Sprouts to round out a late night dinner with a Wyatt Cab. Unbelievably, I said I would like the ziti carbonara special and the chef should choose which veggie :-) The ziti was crazy good, and the cauliflower was outstanding. I will order them both again. Try the cote de Rhone, too. I am so glad you are back!

Had dinner here a few days ago and I was very impressed! Our table shared the shrimp and plantain as an appetizer. I would highly recommend it! The sauce it came in was heavenly. For the entrée, I had asked the server about the salmon and whether it was wild or farm raised and the waitress said the salmon was wild. I really appreciate when restaurants serve wild salmon so that made me happy. However, my mother and I both ordered the chicken and potato/veggie hash because the waitress said it was a popular dish recently. It did not disappoint! Next time, I want to try the salmon, though. My mother also ordered the white wine sangria which tasted very fresh! My father ordered the scallops with tomato/potato mixture. He was floored and left nothing behind. Overall, it was a great dinner experience. Thank you!

Nice space in bucolic Sparkill. Went there late on Sunday afternoon and where handed the Brunch menu. While lovers Of eclectic food might rejoice, we found the selection wanting. We ordered hamburgers, which were good, but nothing I would consider any different than anyplace else . Staff was friendly and efficient by all accounts.

Just ate here again and the food and drinks were superb. We had the Slab of Bacon and Roasted Cauliflower with Pine nuts for appetizers. Amazingly delicious! Then we had the Mussels with little ham chunks and scallops in a delicious sauce. The fresh bread is perfect for dipping in the sauce. Really, the food is just so well crafted for flavor and quality, obviously by a master chef. And the bartender refilled our drinks without us asking. Very friendly and attentive service. We had a great time as did the other couples we sat next too. Can’t wait to go back!

Roost is back! and better than ever! Chef Kevin Reilly has kept some of his classic dishes on his interesting, almost«build your own meal» menu, listed and not separated by distinguishing course markers, where the patron can decide if they want to do a small plate inspired meal, a classic coursed meal, or whatever else(the menu items are in relative portion size and price order so it’s pretty easy to figure out what would be an entrée vs appetizer and the staff is always helpful with recommendations). Food is amazing! It is unique but simple, with some standard American type fare, and some things seem to have a Mediterranean/European twist. You can never go wrong ordering the french onion soup or whatever the soup of the moment is(some menu items change frequently) Slab bacon is also a good choice, and the cauliflower is amazing. For an entrée I had the seared scallops and oxtail risotto which was to die for. Scallops were seared to perfection and oxtail was a delicious accompaniment. He also makes a delicious burger. Cocktails are delicious and fresh, you will see no Dekuyper Triple Sec at this bar because all the cocktails and liqueur are craft, small batch, organic, etc with fresh lemon and lime juice and house made syrups. Craft local beer too, and a small but well rounded wine list. I love it here! I frequented it before it burned down and and so do several members of my family and expect to again. Some familiar staff members and some new ones, but everyone seems like they help each other out, making service extremely attentive, friendly and efficient. Ask any server for anything and they will get it for you, clearly this is a team effort. Maria, the co-owner will often be found playing ‘maitre’d’ as well, and she is sweet and accommodating. Try this place out!
