Erin pegged it. Erin, my wife is a quilter and I have made a couple myself. We are both seniors and we agree with your thoughts on the staff. But Erin, it is not just this store. We went to ones in the SF Bay area and felt the same way, every time. They closed those, and now all of them are going away. The Reno area will be left with Jo-Ann Fabrics and Hobby Lobby as overall craft stores, as well as the many quilt stores which focus just on fabrics. The other gem in the area is Mill End Fabrics which has more fabric than I have ever seen in one place. Happy sewing.

I’m new to sewing so generally all fabric/sewing stores make me slightly uncomfortable. But this place takes the cake! Every time I’m there I can literally FEEL the employees’ utter contempt for me. They are, at best, unhelpful and, at worst, extremely rude and condescending. At BOTH the Reno and Sparks locations. They seem to be a bunch of bitter old ladies, and some young person having the nerve to invade their bitter old lady sewing circle or whatever(AKA Hancock Fabrics) really sticks in their craw. Also, they are incredibly slow and everything there costs three times what it costs on Amazon. I will be doing my shopping online, far from the judgmental gazes of sad, lonely old women whose only joys in life are making a bunch of stupid quilts and making young women hate them.

We LOVE this fabric store! The customer service is excellent and the staff knows sewing/quilting/needlework! Always a pleasure to shop here!

This used to be my go to store. I always preferred hancocks to Joann’s. I believe 4⁄5 employees were working and not a single time was I acknowledged. Personally I will take my business elsewhere.

After coming to the store with a few projects in mind, I wanted to get some backing to repair an old quilt as well along with a heavy weight material for an apron. I wasn’t able to measure the quilt before leaving home but I kept in mind that it was a standard queen size. I asked the man at the material counter if he knew the measurements for a standard queen blanket. He seemed put out by my question in a way like I wasn’t prepared for the whole Hancock experience or something. luckily he thumbed through their information binder and figured out the sizing for us. Anyways, the sale fabric was scattered randomly, They seem to have an abundance of fleece material but they don’t have a huge selection of regular prints.

I really like the fabric collections & items available at this store. Also, they have great prices — seems they’re always running a sale! The home décor section right when you walk in has the cutest stuff. This is what keeps me coming back. The only issue I have are the women who run the counter. They act like they hate their lives, and that you are a horrible inconvenience for walking into the store. They huff and puff and grumble when they have to cut fabric or answer any type of question. Also, they have problems ringing things up, are painfully slow at the checkout, and can’t keep track of which items are on sale. It’s kind of annoying and frustrating! I’ll give ‘em a break, because most of them are little old ladies. But still, they work in a store — it wouldn’t hurt to provide friendly customer service instead of making your customers feel like they’ve ruined your day. I would give 5 stars for the products and prices, but 2 – 3 stars for customer service & friendliness.

Not the best fabric selection in town but it’s a nice smaller store. There seems to be a lack of knowledgable staff to work the registers but they are always helpful when needing fabric cut. I can always find a great super clearance deal in the back at the end of each season.

HORRIBLESERVICEHERE! If you think Joann’s and Mill End have poor customer service, please try Hancock’s to see where the bottom of the barrel in customer service really is. I’m talking about you Juli.

Love, love, love this store! After crappy customer service at Mill End(nasty salespeople who take your lack of knowledge as their own personal joke as well as tease your kids who are excited about projects) and Joannes(just try asking for help with machine feet, women behind the cutting counter have no clue what they even are) Hancock is a breath of fresh air! Sales people here are completely helpful, knowledgeable and take as much time as you need to help you. I was seriously in here for several hours picking out fabric, notions and patterns. The women helped me with everything I had questions about, like which interfacing would be best for my project, which patterns were on sale, etc. Even when I pulled several bolts of fabric and then realized they weren’t in my price range they were great at helping me find what was in my budget. Anytime I’m buying a gift certificate for a sewing/quilting friend I do it here as my thanks for great customer service! Even tho I gave this store moderately priced, their sales and coupons are great and make it inexpensive for the quality compared to other similar stores.

Geez. Do you want to go the way of Ben F? I am an avid sewer, making one to two projects a week. I also work four blocks from here. I think I won’t be back until the closing sale. I’ve gone in twice with coupons from the website and have gotten grief. The staff can’t seem to figure out how to ring them in. When I’ve not given up my email to be on their list, the staff has gotten huffy, especially when I tell them I go to the website and print my own coupons when I need or want them. I was in yesterday with two items in my hands to buy. I asked a staff if they had X, he guy said if you don’t see it, we don’t have it. I then stood by the register for two minutes to buy my items while being ignored. I put the stuff down and walked out. You have no idea who your customers are and how to treat them. I am not a little old lady on a fixed income. I am a person with expendable income and high interest in sewing and crafting. Your loss. Francine

The staff does their best to help everyone who enters the store. Alas, I’m beyond help! Things are changing again in the home sewing world, and I Do Not Like the changes. A lot of the fabrics had spandex in them for extra give. There was a lot of soft, fluffy fleece and other fleece-like fabric available. Thing is, I’m stuck way back in the 19th century when it comes to my fabric preferences. I want sturdy, natural-fiber fabrics, usually in solid colors. I want cotton, silk and linen thread. I want thimbles that fit all of my fingers. I want pure horsehair canvas. And so on, and so on… The way I sew isn’t the way most people sew today, and between that and the service, that’s why I gave Hancock’s four stars. It’s a good shop for 21st century sewers. I’m just a fussy old crone :-)

This is the place that I found my sisters material for her dress for my wedding. I looked all over town and thought we were going to have to order online. But this someone told me to check this place out. It was beautiful material and they had a lot of it. They have so much in this store. I was looking for some fleece for a project and they had tons of it, and on sale too! Friendly service and always willing to help. They are always having some nice sales as well. If there is a project you need help with or just looking for something to do this is the place to go!
