This Square in Reno has several restaurants and bars, plus a water fountain that kids can play in and a movie theater. We visit once a year on our way home from BurningMan for the Rib Cook-Off( . Over 500,000 people attend the end-of-summer event but we always seem to find parking in the nearby neighborhoods. We also make sure to visit Paddy’s Irish Pub for a cold drink( . I wouldn’t recommend playing in the water zone too long — it always smells like they use more chlorine than water.

Victorian Square is a plaza, which is located in the downtown section of Sparks, Nevada. This is an area where many annual events are held. This is also, a very old area of Sparks and home to «Glendale School.» This is a nostalgic, one room, School-house that was built in 1864. It is still standing at the eastern end of Victorian Square. Farmers Market is an event for the whole family. The farmers and locales come here to sell their home-grown fruits, vegetables and nuts or locally produced products. There are products, such as raw honey, made from indigenous flowers and homemade jelly, cheese, yogurt and jerky. «The Hot August Nights» is a Classic Car parade, and famous event that draws contenders from near and far. This is a huge event for Classic car admirers and Classic car owners to compete for prizes. The theme is «The Rock and Roll Fifties ‘era.» There are, however, cars and trucks from the 1920’s to the 1970’s. You’ll see ladies in their pink poodle skirts and guys with their rolled up sleeves on their white T-shirts with a cigarette pack tucked in the sleeves… the classic look of the fifties. The classic cars parade down South Virginia Street in Reno then through Sparks. The Best In The West Nugget Rib Cook-Off” is just another great event that takes place in Victorian Square. There are a lot of BBQ Rib Cook-off Contenders, striving for the grand prize of $ 7500. Check out the Best in the West Nugget Rib Cook-off.

When you add weekly, I mean«flexible stay living» to an area you bring in rift raft. I heard they are adding more with the empty Silver Club/Bourbon Street Casino. Walking around with friends from out of town for HAN and all I see is rift raft type of people, lots of bums asking me for food or money, and people pissing in corners. I would not bring my kid to this area for anything, not even the movie theatre. So sad to see this happen over the years. Whos bright idea was it to put last chance joe right in front of the museum? Horrible placement, would have looked much better on the side. I do love the duct tape that is holding him together, that is a nice touch.

Mostly come here for major events like the Rib Cook-off. Otherwise, nothing in this area really attracts me except that it serves as a walkway from casino to casino and oh, the movie theater and a couple of restaurants, none of which are so unique that you couldn’t get similar food in the 94,382 other restaurants in a 50-mile radius. Generally when there’s not an event going on, it feels kind of like a ghost town. But it is definitely a perfect location for big events as they can handle crowds well and being pedestrian only really helps.

During the Rib Cook Off and the Farmer’s Market this place seems like the center of the freaking universe. The rest of the time it is just so dead. Very sad to see so many empty storefronts, I wish they could do more with Victorian Square.
