Excellent food-don’t be fooled by the gas station next door-​this is a great place to eat! Fresh food and flavorful. Don’t miss it when you pass by.

Best Indian food In the area but not much to choose from. For $ 7 buffet you can’t beat it. The chicken curry and Tilka masala is good but spicy even if you order mild. The tandoori chicken is phenomenal. Naan is good. The sagg on the buffet. was lacking the usual cheese cubes and was too spicy. Full bar is an unexpected treasure. Overall it was good if you like spicy but mild fans will not appreciate the cuisine.

Great little place to eat. We always get the daytime buffet. I am not an Indian food expert by any means but live all of the buffet dishes. Tandoori chicken is delish. As is the saag. Some effort could be put into sprucing the place up a bit. Servers are great

wow, where do I start? First off, compared to all the other Indian resturants in a truck stop in the middle of nowhere, this place is the best.
Seriously though, we were passing through, looking at our food options on Unilocal,and saw this little gem. It got really good reviews so we decided to give it a try.
The truck stop is in the middle of being sold, and fairly run down. Pretty sketchy looking. My wife was sort of freaked out, but I’ve done hard time … So no biggy for me.
Prices were on par or slightly higher than Indian places in St. Louis, where we are from.
But hey, where else you gonna go at night, on the highway? Beggars can’t be choosers, right?

For more if it was good. We ordered the chicken saag, which is basically chicken chunks in a spicy creamed spinach. We got mango lassi drink for my daughter and although rice came with the dish, bread is extra, so we ordered that was well.
$ 19 including tax and $ 3 tip. Which was pretty high for 1 dish and a drink, compared to our hometown Indian place. But like I said, we couldn’t afford to be choosey.
Saag– was ordered mild but still spicy, I thought it was mild, wife said too spicy.
Had about 8 sizable chunks of white meat chicken in it, some pieces were gnarly — grisly, fat. But not too horrible, just not good.
The spinach was average.
The bread was naan, but tasted thicker and softer — like pizza dough. Again not bad, but meh.
Mango lassi was average as well. My daughter freaked out about the atmosphere, so we took the food out to our motor home to eat in the parking lot rather than sit in the restaurant .
The rice was a low point, not the yummy nutty fragrant basmati we are used to, but a wet plain — no flavor, plain white rice.
Needless to say, we did not go back for round two.
If I were there during lunch buffet, I’d prolly give it a second chance, decent deal and if something is not good, you can try something else, but a la carte dinner? Forget it.
Would rather have gone to Taco Bell.
In closing, not horrible, not great, when you take in consideration the scariness at night, the price, and the food– leaning towards horrible, but not quite there .
If you have to have Indian food, it’s the only game in town, but if you have a car, drive to the next town.

Lived in Indiana for a year, this is the best good I’ve had here hands down. Authentic, fresh, straightforward, impossibly cheap. The day I ate there, the crowd was mostly Sikhs that came separately and sat alone. Didn’t try the sweets in the back but those also looked legit. Also, full bar?!

Taste of India is exactly that! This restaurant is easily accessed off the interstate, provides an excellent flavor for local foodies, travelers and truck drivers. The food is cooked to perfection by an authentic Indian chef. Vegetarian dishes and excellent meat offerings for all walks and types. Has great service and a bar for those who wish to partake. This is my favorite Indian restaurant.

It’s 10pm. You are driving through Indiana on your way from the east to the west or vice versa. You are hungry. Your options are gas station food, fast food, go hungry, or an Indian restaurant in a truck stop in a tiny place called Spiceland.
You pick Taste of India not just because you are feeling adventurous and have to see it to believe it, but also because this is actually good quality Indian food with an expansive menu for affordable prices.
Eating here was definitely the best interstate dining decision I’ve made in recent memory. Give it a shot!

Taste of India doesn’t have the most welcoming exterior as its located at a now defunct truck stop, but once you’re inside the smells will quickly make you for forget about the exterior appearance and interior décor.
The lunch buffet is small, but all of the items are fresh and very delicious, offering several meat and vegetable options. The naan may be the best I’ve ever had. I’ve never ordered from the menu but have been told the food is just as good as the buffet.
The service can be a bit slow depending on how busy it is, typically there’s only one server working during the lunch rush when I stop in but that person has always been very friendly and courteous.
This place is definitely worth checking out if you’re in the mood for good Indian food.

Great service, fantastic food, very fair prices. Love the abundance of vegetarian options. Veggie samosas, naan, and daal curry are just a few of my faves. Happy to support this local gem. Don’t let the location scare you, it is Indian home cooking all the way.

Do not be fooled by the outside of this place. I have never seen an Indian restaurant at a truck stop and it took me some time to decide whether I should go in or eat at Denny’s. I was not disappointed with the chicken and veggie dishes but the naan could have had more volume to it instead of being frail and crispy. The café style setup wasn’t too welcoming but it is a truck stop, after all. I was pleasantly surprised by this hidden gem and would definitely come back if I drive through New Castle again.

If you’re in Cincinnati, Dayton, or Indianapolis, give up those Indian restaurants that seem to serve pre-​packaged food for more than it is worth.
I’ve read reviews about this place, and before I left the state, i wanted to try it once. What harm could it do? It couldn’t be worse than those places where I’ve spent $ 20 – 25 and walked away disappointed.
Okay, the first thing you’ll notice is the truck stop-​like building. Enter, turn left down the cramped hallway, and there it is, a diner interior from the 1950s. It has character – which means that it could use some updating but that’s okay. It seems clean.
When I walked into the place, I wasn’t sure what was happening. No one was wearing uniforms or name tags. It was extremely casual. I sat at the counter, which is also basically the bar. I guessed that, if the food wasn’t good, you could always fix that with some liquor, unless that makes you sicker.
Reading the menu, I spotted a few familiar items. I ordered the Aloo Gobhi with plain naan (you don’t have to add «bread» since naan = bread). I believe the last place I had cheese naan, which turned out to be plain naan, but more expensive.
The price of $ 8.95 didn’t seem terrible for the Aloo Gobhi and Naan at $ 1.76 seemed reasonable, especially when I couldn’t eat it all.
The taste was great! I didn’t feel as though it had come from a foil package with the words «export quality» written on it. Many times at restaurants, I’ve found a package from MTR or Gits to be better, but this tasted home made, and tasted as though someone really cared. That said, the portion wasn’t big – they used a similar steel baking dish as other places I’ve tried – but the taste overcame any thoughts about the portion.
There was plenty of naan and it tasted okay, and wasn’t too dry.
It reminded me of being back on either east or west coast, and they happen to be from the west coast, where I’m headed again.
So, if you’re not happy with your current Indian food, take a ride, and try this place because you’ll be surprised that you didn’t find it earlier.
The receipt made me smile: Punjab Empire is the name there, not Taste of India.

In line with most of the other reviewers, I had trouble believing this roadside gas station/​quick mart held an Indian restaurant. I looked at the extensive menu and felt like I had stepped into an alternate universe. The food was very good — we ate too much, but still packed leftovers for dinner. True, the bathroom deserves one star, but if you want food, rather than McNuggets, this is a travel experience to remember. If I was driving Indiana, I would look forward to returning.

Have you ever wanted to see a real cowboy sitting at the bar in an Indian restaurant attached to a truck stop? Then look no further than Taste of India, appropriately located in Spiceland, Indiana.
My husband and I stopped here for dinner on our way out of Indianapolis. This place is bursting at the seams with character and charm, just as we’d imagined after passing it by on the highway dozens of times. The staff is very friendly and helped guide us through the extensive menu. I ordered one of their vegetarian dishes and Jon ordered a curry that was recommended as being their most popular, plus naan. Everything was delicious and unfortunately we ate it all, which made us uncomfortably full and therefore tired for the remainder of our drive to New York. But it was so worth it. We both agreed that next time we will split an entrée and order an appetizer to avoid overeating their generously portioned dishes.
There is a full bar with several stools and booths lining the walls. This place looks like it was an old diner in the distant past and the interior stayed the same though the food took a dramatically more flavorful turn. It’s outdated and not for the germaphobe that judges an establishment by it’s bathroom, but definitely the most interested restaurant for miles in any direction. They have very accommodating hours, so why not allow time for a stop on your next trip along I-​70?

Do it. Just try this place. I am from NYC n this place puts most NYC India restaurants to shame!
I have had dinner 10+ times. Never same thing twice. Great curry. Tandoor chicken. Vindaloo. Think they have 8+ types of breads. N the best free condiments pickled carrots ummmm so good.

This was not one of my best ideas. The buffet was questionable at best. I have nothing against truck stops but clean is achievable anywhere! The bathroom was out of order and it looked to have been that way for quite some time. The only reason I stopped was it was the only restaurant at that exit. Take my word for it this is not a worth while stop.

How odd… An Indian restaurant inside a truck stop. Hey, it works for me. They are open late, so when I’m on the road, I grab some Indian food. Freshly prepared, good quality food. i give them an A-​or B+. Pretty good. Tandoori chicken is decent. Naan is good. Flavors are great. Seems to be run by a family. I ate at the bar and it seemed like it was a father and son behind the bar. They were very friendly and accommodating. I’ve stopped here several times and will continue to do so.

In the spot formerly occupied by India Curry, I’m guessing the restaurant changed hands and the new owner splashed a few paint buckets around. It doesn’t look like a typical Indian restaurant or a typical truck stop. It looks kind of like what you’d expect the cultural oddity of an Indian restaurant smack in the middle of rural Indiana to look like – in short, it’s like nothing else!
The food may not be quite as distinct, and if you’re an Indian devotee, chances are you’ve had better – chances are equally likely that you’ve had far worse. Pappadum and various chutnies were reliable. The lamb was clearly freshly and sensitively prepared and appropriately spiced. The one real negative was that the naan was clearly prepared many hours earlier, so it was a bit on the chewy side.
The menu as about as large as one might expect from an Indian resto in a city – certainly not pared down to adapt to logistical challenges of delivering to a sparsely populated area. Goat is available here – not always easy to find at an Indian place – though it seems they discourage us Western folks from giving it a try. At the same time, they will custom prepare a dish – lamb makhni, for example, wasn’t necessarily on the menu though its easy to adapt since they make chicken makhni all the time.
Maybe some day this will be less of a novelty: after all, Chinese restaurants can now be found in all but the smallest of towns all across the US. But until then, make a stop at a place that’s a welcome antidote to all the fast-​food chains along I-​70. It’s also open until 12:30 – perfect for those late-​night cravings for a steaming hot plate of rhogan josh. And clearly the Indian owners knew they had found an untapped market: after all, the town IS called Spiceland.
