In an unlimited number of salons in an unlimited number of strip malls, the ambiance is all the same. It’s either walking into a pristine white 80’s science lab or a makeshift rainforest. Long gone are the days of the three chair barber arguing with a regular about the local sports team. Except at Dan’s. I needed a haircut before returning home from a family visit, so my father in law drove me to Dan’s for the both of us. Inside was just a man and his trade. And the other barbers that actually cut our hair. Dan’s specializes mostly in military and standard men’s haircuts, with straight razor shaves and steam towels, but for $ 9, which is about half the price with zero frills. Getting a haircut at Dan’s is a no brainer.

I had a cut from Bert. He gave me a great cut! He knew what to do when I told him«the same but shorter.» And proceeded to tell me this Barber Shop has been there 57 years! Wow! I was in the USAF for 20 years and this was up there with some of my best cuts!!! I’ll be back. Oh oh, and did I mention the price… $ 9…cash only, but probably the best for your money in Spokane!!!

Good old school barber. 8 chairs all with lots of experience. Nothing fancy but they have good steam towels and they double shave with a straight razor. Walk ins are welcome.

I would give 0 stars if I was able. I took my almost two year old in for his 3rd haircut. I have never seen such a terrible job. At first the guy chopped his hair with scissors and then asked what I though, I said it looked choppy so he went around his head with clippers. I have never been so disappointed in a haircut and am embarrassed to have people see my poor Lil man’s hair. Thank gosh he loves to wear a hat! I will definitely pay double the price and go to my husband’s normal barber.

With a slew of new ‘barber shops’ popping up, this one is truly one from yesteryear. They are open before the crack of dawn(have gotten a haircut at 6AM). $ 8 for a basic hair cut with no frills is a deal. You walk in and you can either pick who you want or who’s available. I have seen only guys and boys in here getting there hair cuts. A lot of old timers and true to barber shop lore, both the barbers and the patrons have stories… Mostly male barbers and a few women who work there. As far as quality, my hair is short so not much needs to be done but my one son who goes there gets a cut that he is happy with so I’m guessing it’s has to be decent.

You get what you pay for. I been here twice. The first experience was decent, but after my second time, NEVERAGAIN, I paid $ 8 for 5 minutes in the chair and a incredibly short, uneven, sorry excuse for a haircut. Don’t people take pride in their work anymore? My head looks like a Q-tip! I told the guy I wanted a 3 with the clippers on the sides, but I somehow ended up looking like I’m ready to enlist in the military. I’m afraid to take a mirror and see how bad the back of my head looks… I asked for no sideburns, but he went WAYBEYOND my sideburns on one side. In fact, that side is a QUARTERINCHHIGHER from my temple ALL the WAYBEHIND my EAR. Without asking me, he slapped on WAYTOOMUCH of this cheap hair gel to help hide his mistakes. Usually, isn’t it common courtesy to ask? I’m going to take a shower afterwards, why would I want gel in my hair? At the end of the haircut, I put my glasses back on and was HORRIFIED! To top it all off, the place smells like an ash tray, and a cat(which I am allergic to) roams freely within the shop. STAYAWAYATALLCOSTS!!!

The five star rating is for convenience and price. Caveat: I’m not in a position to comment on the ability of all the barbers(up to 8 working at any given time) since I’m loyal to Mike — so your experience may differ… Nevertheless, it opens at 0700 hrs and closes late. I’m in the military, which requires me to «maintain a neat, clean military appearance». That translates into a haircut every two weeks. The $ 8.00 price for a regular men’s haircut is definitely a force multiplier. Trust me, I’ll pay more for a good haircut, but why when Dan’s does it for $ 8.00? The place ‘ain’t fancy’, and the folks(employees and customers) can be a little rough in manner and speech. I say, «suck it up buttercup» it’s a barber shop in Spokane, not a salon on Capitol Hill. In addition to the usual barber shop banter, the shop cat provides some entertainment. Consider it an honor if she deems you worthy enough to give you the time of day. They could use a better magazine selection, but you’re generally not waiting long enough to read one.
