These guys can be found in the Caterina tasting room. I would highly recommend their Barbera and Bird House Red blends.

What’s their story? Lone Canary is dedicated to the production of high-quality, elegant wines that express what is delicious and distinctive about Washington state fruit. Sourcing fruit from the some of the finest vineyards in the Yakima and Columbia Valleys, LC released their first vintage in August, 2003. From that first debut to now 6 years later Lone Canary has received rave reviews for their wines. Lone Canary brings together three people with a long history in, and enthusiasm for, the Washington wine industry: Mike Scott, former winemaker at Caterina Winery, and Steve and Jeanne Schaub, local vineyardists and great fans of Mike’s wines. Located just East of downtown Spokane, the production is around 4,500 cases, with a focus on Sauvignon Blanc and red wines showcasing both Italian and Bordeaux varietals. We knew we liked Mike when he was the winemaker at Canterina. Who is the winemaker? Mike Scott has been a part of the Washington wine industry for over 20 years. After years of quietly honing his craft in Spokane, WA, Scott opened Caterina Winery in 1993, and was the winemaker and general manager there until December, 2002. During his career he has become a respected figure in the Washington State wine community, earning high praise for his elegant and expressive wines. What’s with the bird? The logo(affectionately known as Clooney) is an artistic rendering of Washington’s state bird, the American Goldfinch, or Wild Canary. Forging a lone and exciting path using Washington’s exemplary fruit, we have chosen to stand apart from the flock through unique artistic expression in our wines. We like this happy logo/mascot and realize besides being cute it stands out on the retail shelves among a sea of labels. Wher are they? The winery is located at 109 S. Scott St., #B2, Spokane, WA99202. The tasting room is open Thursday — Sunday from 12 noon — 5 p.m. Be sure to check out the events calender at as this local winery is out and about, as well as, hosting a steady stream of events. Directions: From downtown Spokane at the corner of Sprague and Division, go half a mile east on Sprague and take a right onto Scott St. Go another block and a half and and turn left into the Scott & Pacific Business Park. Lone Canary has jumped on the First Friday bandwagon. We think this is a great time to visit the winery.
