The Backyard Public House

Came here apparently after a huge rush for Spokane Restaurant Week. The place was mostly empty but the staff all told us how they were recovering from a crazy rush. They were out of a number of items, so we just ordered off the regular menu. My friend and I shared the poutine – good, crispy fries, rich gravy and crispy fried cheese curds on top. A solid stick to your ribs kind of food. We also shared the BLT – again good, not great. I can see how this place could be very loud, everything inside has a hard surface, and the lights were pretty bright for a public house/​bar atmosphere.

Altogether tonight was a rather interesting experience. I can’t say I understand the logic in holding 3 tables for a «waiting area» when they could just be used for seating but I’m also a big believer in letting people do their own thing. All the same I didn’t appreciate waiting 20 mins for a table when I was sitting at a perfectly good table and was watching another that simply needed to be cleaned.
Eventually we were seated and truly 20 mins isn’t long but they weren’t that busy either and it’s not a large restaurant. The food was good and better than anticipated but between the poor service and long wait I’ll take a pass next time.
Came for restaurant week and ordered off the 3 course menu. I will give props to the chef the burger was delicious and the baklava flaky and wonderful.

First time here Food was great. Our server Travis was outstanding when he serviced our table. Very personable and friendly. I’m not gonna lie… When we fist Arrived and sat down initially felt we were being ignored until I finally made eye contact w/​the employee behind the bat (not Travis). Travis saved the night.
Great 5 Dive bar. Definitely will be back.

Typical of pub style setup with a long bar. I had nachos, which honestly tasted strange. cheese sauce almost reminded me of gas station style fake cheese. Not recommended. Wait staff was friendly. The environment is nothing to rave about as nothing really sets it apart from other pubs, and its really loud. Im not sure I would go back. Maybe if I was with a group just for drinks.

I went for restaurant week, the burger and the service was AMAZING! It’s got a great atmosphere, was very busy and the staff was on top of everything! I definitely recommend checking it out if you haven’t yet!

So I am picky not to mention I’m allergic to all of the good things in life. I came here for inlander restaurant week and I wasn’t disappointed. They had a limited menu for this event but this didn’t stop them from having options. Most of the places for restaurant week had things I couldn’t eat as a person who is gluten free, pork free, and diary free. They were willing to work with me to make the menu something I could enjoy. My brother and I happened to come on a Sunday which is their bingo night and it was super funny. Even though I wasn’t playing I enjoyed the commentary. I do also enjoy a great beverage while I eat and Chuck (the bartender and all around nice dude) he had opinion on gluten free beverages and he pointed me in the direction of a gluten free beer called omission amber ale and it was super awesome!!! I really loved the atmosphere and music and I recommend this to anyone feeling like a beer and a bite to eat!!!

This place rocks! Super friendly staff, great drinks and hands down the best burger in town! I eat here all the time. Do yourself a favor and try the pretzel sticks, Bibb lettuce salad and like I said THE BURGER!

The grilled cheese and sweet potato fries were very good, and the bar has a nice variety on tap. The service was slow but very friendly and the atmosphere was nice. Definitely worth a look.

The food was amazing. Really, really good. We had the special, a crispy chicken sandwich with jalepeno mayo and fries. The service was pretty good. The reason for the three stars is that it took 40 minutes to get our food at lunch. There were only two other tables when we arrived. 40 minutes at lunch just for the food to arrive is too long, and will be the only reason for not returning.

This place is great. Wonderful atmosphere, amazing food, great service. Never waited too long for anything and empty dishes and glasses were taken away pretty quick. LOVED the pretzels (didn’t get a pic because we ate them too fast) and the burger was bomb. Servers were very friendly and fast. We will definitely be back.

A very friendly and cozy place for good food and drinks. I like that they use copper cups to serve cocktails. Really not sure if copper does anything beneficial, but it’s different and looks cool.
Food was good and fresh.

The service is why we don’t drink here anymore. The staff only care about visiting with their buddies and hipster regulars that come in. Then when you flag one down, they are annoyed that you are interrupting their social time. Super rude and makes for a very unpleasant experience. I’ll take my money elsewhere.

We went here last night after purchasing a double dollar deal and we were pleasantly surprised by this place! It’s in a cute and open space with plenty of room for large parties. The beer was cold and the bartender was friendly. We started with the Pretzel Sticks which were delicious! The picture they have posted of it on Unilocal is completely accurate, they looked and tasted amazing! I ordered the BLT with Sweet Potato Fries and everything was fantastic. The BLT with the shallot aioli was great and the sweet potato fries were cooked perfectly, nice and crispy on the outside with the perfect amount of salt. My other half ordered the Grilled Cheese which was the best frickin grilled cheese I’ve tasted in a long time! Bacon… Apple Marmalade… Ooey Gooey Cheesiness, YES!!! So delicious!!! For the side, he ordered the Hawaiian Pasta Salad which he also really enjoyed. It was a great bar with great bar food. The only reason I’m giving 4 stars instead of 5 is because of the service… Which was slooow… They were really nice but the bartender was doing everything, he just needed more help for all of the people in there.

Didn’t eat here, however got trashed off their giant selection of Mules (i.e. Moscow Mules). They have free Wifi, which is awesome. The only other thing I saw was their urinal which was clean and took urine deposits. That’s about it!

I’ve been here a few more times since my first time — I’ve tried the BLT that has bacon jam on it, and it is amazing! I love it… I love their sweet potato fries AND their regular fries. They don’t seem to carry ranch dressing though but they have amazing garlic aioli that’s served with the fries which is pretty good. I’ve had the burger as well — LOVE the buns, its perfect. Best buns for a burger. The burger itself is delicious. The only thing I’ve tried here that I didn’t really like is the mac and cheese, its good but needs way less sauce so that the pasta doesn’t get drowned by it. Otherwise the flavor is solidly good.
Always same servers/​employees here — love them all, they’re a fantastic group of staff.
Finally got to sit outside in the patio area the last two times, it was great. Love it. The weathers been amazing lately!
I’m officially a regular and a fan! I’n brining a bunch of people there in a couple of weeks! Looking forward to it :)

Sweet potato fries. Don’t leave without trying them. Also, drink beer. They have a great tap list.
I love the space. It’s open and simple with a little bit of a rustic flair. Plenty of high tops and good seating for larger groups.

Unpredictable. I know it is a bar, so it is not supposed to be about the food. However, when one is there at lunchtime on a weekday, it seems like food should get more attention. I had my first salad there last week. It was delicious! Best food I’ve had there. That would have been a great meal… Except I asked for something extra. I asked the waitress for a piece of garlic toast or a roll to go with the salad. She returned from the kitchen and happily put down a saucer with an untoasted, unbuttered piece of white bread. We could hardly believe it.
The sweet potato fries are about the best I’ve had. But I’ve had regular fries that were definitely undercooked. I found the Mac and cheese to be too rich. The sauce completely overwhelmed the pasta. I was excited to try their poutine, but it was much too salty for my taste.
I wish them well and hope the food quality will stabilize over time.

This is a great place for hanging with friends or for business meetings. I have had lunch here several times and always end up ordering the cheese burger with pasta salad or the soup of the day. The sides are and enjoyable opening act but the headliner is always the burger. The burger itself always satisfying and never disappoints cooked to perfection and perfectly medium. You can tell by the quality in the taste and the plating of the food the kitchen staff is not your usual dive bar quality. Front end staff always friendly and awesome to chat with. The beverage game seems to be on point as well. I have fell in love with the local coffee they are serving. They also have a beer or a cocktail for every particular taste. I look forward to returning every time I get the chance.

Pros: The BLT I ordered was delicious, the appetizers were great, the bar welcomed our large group, and the music was great. Everyone was able to socialize and have a fun time.
Cons:
Two people ordered the mac and cheese which both came with hairs in them. Luckily, the server apologized, the food was taken back, and their meals were on the house.
A couple employees were drunk. One at the bar seemed off balance and did not know what we meant when we needed one set of silverware. While I was using the restroom, an employee and a barefoot woman were in the bathroom. They left and brought back toilet paper which I was grateful for, but the stumbling, incoherent (she was trying to talk, but seemed too intoxicated to do so), barefoot woman was the one with the keys to the toilet paper holders and changing the toilet paper.
I am giving three stars and taking time to review because other patrons should know what to expect and gauge if this is a good place for them. They have really good food and have a great facility to work with, but the service did not reach par. I will not be back, but maybe another night, with different staff, someone will stop in and have a wonderful experience.
