U-Haul Moving & Storage of East Spokane

Rented a 26 foot truck and a car trailer to move from Spokane to San jose. I booked through the website which was fast and easy. I picked up the truck on the reserved day then picked up the trailer the day after we had everything in the truck. The uhaul rep hooked up the trailer and assisted us with putting the car on the trailer. I have a standard 09 BMW 3 series with no modifications and a sport package. They drove it up the ramp and as it leveled out, a loud cracking noise came from the bottom of the car. Apparently it cracked the thick underbody shield that these cars come with. I asked them if that was normal and they said yes. I also asked if there was a different way to do it and they were not aware. Then after it was on the trailer they put the tie down chains over the tie rods. I pointed out that it was not part of the frame or stable and they said that’s how they normally do it.
Cut to 11 hrs into the move and the truck dies in a motel parking lot and does not start for 1 hr. Luckily as we are on the phone with customer service, it started and we continued. Next day we drive another 7 hrs, get to the new home, unload for 4 hrs, then head back to the uhaul near downtown SJ where it dies again roughly 1 mile from the uhaul center. We again call customer service and they say we have to wait for another hour. Knowing that it started before in the same situation, we decided to keep trying and it eventually started again. I got it back to the uhaul and called customer service to file a complaint. This was a huge cluster from the start. Also when I got to San Jose and returned the trailer, they asked if I noticed the bottom of my car was ripped up. Apparently when they vehicles with low clearance they put simple wooden blocks underneath the ramps. They also asked why they didn’t use the tow tie downs that are in the front bumper. I file a claim with the insurance that I paid extra for and got denied despite the fact that the same company had 2 different levels of expertise in how to properly load a basic BMW onto a trailer. I paid 998.00 for 3 days and a trailer and despite having payed extra for insurance, still was not covered for damages they made to my car. I recommend that you stay away from this u hual location. The manager emailed me, not called and gave me a 50 dollar gift certificate for my troubles. WOW. If you know you haven’t provided good customer service I would expect a call to apologize and use the insurance that I paid for to fix what was damaged due to your company’s negligence. I would strongly caution anyone from using uhual for long distance moves or for moving a car. I will never use uhual again because of their lack of integrity and choice to provide bad customer service to a reasonable customer.

Rented a cargo van yesterday for a short local move of our God son’s one bedroom apt.
Service was prompt and friendly. Vehicle was clean and with 142 miles on it very nice.
No complaints here… would consider using them again without hesitation.

F A I L U R E !
I booked a hitch installation on-​line (Friday). The selection tool and options were quite impressive so I purchased the product on-​line and booked an appointment. The instructions stated to not call the store they will call you with the final details.
Saturday morning, by mid-​morning I had not heard from them and felt that we didn’t want to waste our day not knowing. So I called the store about 10am and they told me my appointment had been scheduled for 7am. I was never called and notified of this. So, I re booked the appointment for 10:30am Sunday.
I arrived 20 minutes early and handed my keys over and told the gal at the counter that I’m the 10:30am hitch installation. She said we have no one to install the hitch today. She looked into her records and found out that when I called the (local store number) I was passed off to a call center in Arizona «who has no idea what the hitch installation schedule is».
To her credit she was VERY apologetic and sympathetic and said she would be happy to re book it. I said I’ll take a refund, and she promptly did that.
Hindsight being ²⁰⁄₂₀ I should have learned my lesson booking anything online with U haul. I was burned by U haul 3212 W Court St, Pasco, WA two years ago when I booked a trailer online. They too (completely) failed me.
This particular U haul store in Spokane has been at this address for many-​many years and I don’t think they are in the business of getting things wrong, but as a customer it’s not my problem that the online system burned me (again) and as a customer I was letdown and give U haul a failing grade.
If U haul can’t get a $ 250 hitch installation right, I can’t expect that renting equipment for a big move would be a good choice on my part…

Bessie The U-​Haul Truck Finds A New Home
SITREP
Well, we picked up «Bessie» — our 20-​FT U-​Haul Truck in Glendale, CA — in the barrio to be precise.
THE GLENDALE SETUP
One reason I say that is that as soon as we got the truck ready to go, several Spanish-​speaking gentlemen standing on the curb swarmed up to me asking us if we needed help loading up the truck full of furniture.
And I don’t blame them for trying to find a temporary job, and I wish them best. [As it turns out, we are DIY and didn’t need their help.] But that sort of thing doesn’t usually at U-​Haul Truck centers up north. Not in Sacramento. Certainly not at this pristine Spokane location where we were returning Bessie.
SPOKANE RETURN METRICS
As it turns out, we already know we had gone a bit over the 1343 miles that we were allotted for this road trip from Glendale, CA to Spokane, WA. [I don’t know who makes these calculations, but they always seem to short-​change the customer, but that said, moving on…]
I had already swept out the truck, and folded up all the blankets we used to cushion the furniture. The check-​in process was quick & smooth and in less than 15 minutes with the walk-​around the truck, we were on our way.
THE LOWDOWN
A great U-​Haul franchise for us to return out truck rental, and I suspect to make a rental from as well.
