Our first visit and we’ll definitely be back. The poorboy sandwich was great, nice bread and the fries were crispy and delicious. Service was fast.

We enjoyed a delicious lunch special of tacos. Food was tasty and staff fast and friendly, especially Jena! Compliments on cole slaw, wild rice soup and poor boy, too.

Great service and excellent food. Homemade soup and warm bread and the best prime rib we have had in a long time! Definitely will stop in again.

Very nice restaurant and bar. Not fancy, but welcoming with good food and service. They have a variety of sandwiches and salads on the menu. The specialty is a poor boy sandwich, which I usually order. Served warm with your choice of meats, cheese and decorations. They have both 6″ and 12″ sizes. The 6″ is quite filling and you can get it in a basket with fries, etc. My wife last had some homemade soup and said it was very tasty. Go casual and enjoy this local gem!

I recently took my kids in here for lunch. First, the good: It was really nice inside, beautifully decorated in local, log-cabin style. It is clean and the waitstaff was very nice. Now, the not-so-good: I wanted to love this place. I wanted to know that Spooner had finally gotten a go-to place for a good meal, any time. While the positives remain very important, the fact is the food was just okay. I had a special of «honey pork» on the po boy bread. First of all, I wouldn’t have known about the special if I hadn’t asked the people beside us what was good. It wasn’t posted, wasn’t on the menu, and the waitress never mentioned it. When it came, there was very little meat and a LOT of super-sweet sauce. It was messy, which can be great if it’s worth it! Sadly, this was not. My daughter had an assorted po boy and enjoyed it very much. She also had the chicken noodle soup, which she loved. It was good, but on the very salty side. Overall, I would say it was okay. I am definitely willing to give it another try the next time I’m in Spooner. I would probably order the shrimp po boy which is apparently possible but not on the menu.

Mary the owner and server was an excellent host, the food was excellent, was worth the 3 mile ride off Hwy 53 to visit. We will definitely visit again. I had the shrimp poor boy, even though it was not on the menu! Kudos to a great business and owner Mary!

So they got me with the old bait and switch by advertising«broasted» chicken in addition to advertising homemade soup on the menu. So when looking or a place to eat in Spooner – i decided this would be it. I got inside and it looked promising very lodge like with wood and canoe accents. The server was having a busy and bad day and she seemed a little frazzled. They no longer have chicken and they were out of soup for the day. They say they have nightly specials and the only thing they had available was steak and shrimp for 22.00. Something tells me this is not the place to have steak and shrimp so we settled on a sloppy joe melt and a burger. They were edible but not the best. Next time I will drive right on by — a fast food joint would have been better and cheaper.

I am a foodie. I look for restaurants that are very good at what they offer. I look for clean attractive interior and excellent service. Poor Boys did not let me down. The poor boys are served warm and couldn’t be any better. The service is fantastic especially if Mary, the owner, is serving. She aims to please and provides excellent customer service. I will definitely plan on stopping by again when I am heading up to our cabin.

Great sandwiches, we often stop for one as we travel through Spooner. Eat in or take out, north woodsy décor.

My family loves this place! Been going there since it opened. can’t remember how many years it’s been but it’s only been a few. Most of the good places in Spooner went out of business like Jersey’s and Foxxy’s. And most of the other places in Spooner have the same food in every menu. And I mean every freaking restaurant has the same stuff. And most of the other places don’t have very good food. Piller’s has some stuff that is a little different plus everything is really good. The«poor boys» are good and the Reuben is also delish. And of course they have cheese curds! They have pretty much a full bar as far as I can tell. Vodka, beer and wine for sure. It’s family owned. The service is also really good! The restaurant itself is pretty small-only about 6 tables and bar seats. Every time my family visits Spooner, we come and eat at Piller’s at least twice.

Ordered the Sloppy Joe Melt. The other boys ordered Reuben’s. Both were fantastic. Clearly the bread makes the difference.

This place was a spot we picked randomly as we were visiting in Birchwood, WI. I wanted to visit Spooner since I remember it when I was a kid. This place looked really good from the outside with a wooden log look. The menu was unfortunately small although Spooner itself is particularly small as well. With the menu options being limited we were convinced into a poor boy especially since we never had one. I heard it was good however I did not try it. I had the sightly spicy wings which were really really good because they weren’t really spicy since I hate spicy anything. The fries were also sooo yummi. I definitely recommend this. We were here on Dec, 30, 2011. They also had a cool fire going on outside in the pit and they were barbecuing too. It was overall a good experience and prices were decent :) Experienced Around: 01/03/2012

We stopped here for lunch while passing through Spooner with two families(including 4 loud and over-hyper little kids) and it was fantastic. The staff was super friendly and our bouncing noise-machines didn’t phase them at all. As for the food, their poorboys were fantastic(on fresh baked honey wheat bread) and the fries were double cooked crispy goodness. What a find. Thanks for the recommendations, Unilocalers!

What ya’ want, kiddo? Whole assorted po’ boy, please. Here ya’ go, kiddo. Is kiddo a term of endearment for a thirty-something year old man? I got called it several times by the server at the bar. Couldn’t really tell if it was said friendly or condescendingly. Like to think it was my youthful looking appearance, or maybe she just calls every non-townie who comes into the place kiddo. Whatever, I will let the mystery be. What is not a mystery is that the food at Pillers is worth a stop if you are ever in Spooner. The menu is not very extensive. Po’ boys are pretty much all they do, and they do them well. They had shrimp on the menu, but no shrimp po’ boy. What’s up with that? All of the po’ boy options on the menu are meat only. Went with the assorted which is ham, salami and turkey. It was ginormous and tasty. While I did manage to finish the entire Whole po’boy, half of one would have been plenty. Local guy who was much bigger than me got a half of one. I will know better next time. From what I can tell, the place only offers wine and bottled beer and just basic big chain beers. It did appear that there were some bottles of unopened booze beneath the Pepsi machine that were going untouched. Maybe it was the owner’s private stash? Another mystery.

Great dining option in Spooner. My boyfriend ordered the bacon cheeseburger, and in contrast to the other Unilocal reviewer’s BCB, the bacon was normal strips(and a good amount too). He enjoyed his burger and thought the fries were stellar. I ordered the turkey poorboy, and although I wish it came with chips or something, it was large and plenty of food. Prices were very reasonable. From Kelly’s review, we did take a look in the stuffed black bear full of candy, but there were only a few pieces in the bottom, and they looked like they had been in there since the 1990’s. We will stop back next time we are in Spooner.
