This IS Texas eating! Great food in a building filled with hanging antlers! To a native New Yorker, via NC, this was everything I wanted for a Texas experience. Antlers is in Spring Branch, TX outside of San Antonio.
Portions are gigantic, food delicious, chicken fried steak is unbeatable, and waitresses are happy and friendly. My daughter lives nearby and when we visit (3 times now) it is the first place I want to go.

Now I’ve been to 25 states and I’ve ordered Chicken Fried steaks in restaurants in at least half of those states. So you could say I have a thing about CFS. Well I also love hamburgers but that’s besides the point.
As I was saying. The best CFS in all, I really mean it, all the places I have visited, their CFS is by far the best.
It is real round tenderized steak with crispy crust that doesn’t go soggy right in the middle of the meal. It has something in it that gives it a great taste. I think it could be beer and garlic? But what do I know, right?
I only know that the food is good, the service courteous and the prices reasonable.
So whenever you go to Canyon Lake, Spring Branch or Bulverde, stop by and get ready for a real Texas meal, y’all.

Our new favorite place every time we visit New Braunfels area!!! Chicken fried steak with mashed potatoes and homemade bacon flavored green beans AND LOTS OF GRAVY are absolutely amazing!!! And nothing completes a good ol’ southern meal than a quenching glad of sweet tea!!! The homemade ranch dressing is pretty darn fabulous too!!! Great service… fun atmosphere!!! Antlers hanging from the ceiling and a great patio area with a chicken coop keep everyone at the table talking and watching these cute chickens!!! Love this place!!!

This place is a diamond in the rough. The food is some of the BEST comfort food I’ve ever eaten. Make sure you come early because the wait is crazy. We eat here EVERY time we visit the area. The jalapeño mac n cheese is very spicy (you have been warned), the mashed potatoes do not have skin but taste homemade. The chicken strips are typical but the chicken fried steak is very good. They have homemade ranch dressing… This stuff is heaven in a bottle! Last but NOT least you absolutely, positively MUST get the chocolate pie!!! Get the one with the meringue on it, it’s the best one.

Antler has been around forever, but made a big step up with their move to Hwy 46. The enchiladas are the best Tex Mex I have ever had and that special considering the competition. The chicken fried chicken is also great. All the sides are great. Salad is okay. That’s all I eat… you won’t be disappointed. Did I say it is cheap?
