Stage West is a fun little community theater that really tries to do its best. The local Spring Hill talent is always impressive. This modest little theater does a nice job with some recognizable works, such as Chorus Line. The online ticket system makes purchasing tickets easy, but the box office still uses an outdated ticket system. Printed out computer tickets flusters the volunteers, so just stick to «Will Call» since you need the theater ticket anyway. Incidentally, aside from the cast, I was the youngest person in the theater. This is not a relfection of the theater, just simply an observation.

Our community theater in Tampa hasn’t had such huge productions.(Les Miserables in it’s entirety) For the size of the theater it’s still three times what we have here, so I was pleasantly surprised by all the bathroom stalls, which make it faster when everyone rushes them during intermission. It is located down the street from«Shady Pines» or some such retirement home, so you can guess at the clientele. Luckily they are fun and friendly old timers I’ve found, and not the crotchety sort you avoid helping cross the street. They had a great orchestra in the mini pit, about one of each instrument required, and the music was dead on. The costuming and makeup were great which made me wonder if 20.00 a ticket would cover costs. They do not allow food/drink/gum in order to protect the interior, but sell snacks and soft drinks at intermission and before curtain. As for the singing, they were way better than I could have ever done/imagined, and the best I have ever witnessed at community as well. The acting was delightful, especially considering there were very young children in this production, and they seemed to have a solid grasp of their characters way beyond their years. Quite impressed with the talent that a little Podunk Spring Hill had to offer, and consider it the only reason to ever return. In response to Debi E.: Hey Debi E, can’t wait to hear your singing at the next full-length production!

The theater is small, so there really is not a bad seat in the house. It does however lack a few things that you come to expect if you frequent theaters. IE: Serving wine or other cocktail options. There were none! And for the performance we saw(The Rocky Horror Picture Show), it would have been nice, & probably would have helped to accept the horrible singing. Which leads me to my next objection. Why would you hire a cast that can’t carry a tune in a bucket, to do a predominantly musical show??? The actors that played Frankenfurter, Magenta & Dr. Scott were the only ones from the whole cast that could even come close. As for Brad, Janet, Columbia & Riff Raff… are you even kidding me!!! OUCH!!! I know we have better talent in our area than that! The Show Palace has NEVER had a problem like this. But if I’m wrong, and this is the only talent pool you have to pull from… I’ll pass on any future shows. There aren’t enough band-aids for my bleeding ear drums. :(
