I really wanted to like this place. I get high-​end shaves more than 5 times a year, and thought it was great that this place was so close. I’ve come here for a little over 2 years. I think the first two times I went, I got the basic shave, and was quite satisfied. However, it gets a little more dissapointing each time I go. Shave is not at all close and and is incomplete, I’m left with scruffy patches in odd places, which is unnaceptable for a high-​end straight edge shave place. I think the end result should be absolutely smooth skin. I’ve been cut pretty badly more than once. And the extra services, the oil, hot towels, and after shave treatment is becoming more and more rushed, even if there’s not people waiting. Really not worth it to go again, and I’ll limit these shaves I get each year from several year to now just a couple times at better places in NYC. There might be some other places in this part of NJ but haven’t tried. I’m a little turned off to the whole experience now.

I called this barber shop up and asked the person who answered the phone if there is anyone there who can cut with scissors. I was met with a confident yes, but naturally I was skeptical. The reason being is that my hair is very difficult to style and cut because it juts straight out on the sides. I can either have it extremely short or medium length — there is no in between so it is frustrating to maintain a professional look without having a crew cut or long hair. Furthermore, many stylists/​barbers that I’ve tried in the past would say they can use only scissors, but they simply couldn’t or would get frustrated and use a buzzer with a comb. Not John at Fathers Mustache, I explained to him the situation with my hair and he did an excellent job. He was friendly, professional, and patient. Not only was I surprised, I was impressed. My previous barber moved away last month, and I took a shot by calling the closest barber shop with the best reviews. Needless to say, I was lucky to have found John at Fathers Mustache. I hope that my next cut is as good as my last.

Located in downtown Spring Lake. Love being able to walk across the street and getting a great haircut. Would recommend this place to friends and family. No appointment was necessary and never felt like I was being rushed. Friendly staff and clean shop. Staff definitely takes the time to make sure your satisfied with your haircut. Will go back soon.
