I like that Mellow Mushroom is allergen friendly… But I ended up giving them a bit of a hard time with my last visit. So I wanted to write a review about how superb their service was, despite. They really went above and beyond. :) 1. I came in at a busy time, mainly at the request of a family member who was in town. It was an hour drive to get there, and, on the way, I developed a splitting migraine; a migraine so bad I could hardly open my eyes at all, light was excruciating, and, of course, noise, as well. The Mellow Mushroom(or so I thought) had to be the worst place to be with a migraine. I took medicine which did not seem to be working as quickly as I had liked, but we were there and we had driven a ways, so we went in to eat, anyways. My initial guess was right. At first glance, it was definitely not the place to be with a migraine. The lighting may be slightly dim, but the noise was at a roar. We couldn’t hear the person sitting next to us or across from us. It was hard to hold a conversation under normal conditions, much less with migraine pains. We decided to ask to go sit outside on the patio where we knew we could grab some shade and quiet. They graciously obliged and we moved outside. The atmosphere on the patio was perfect — relaxing, calm, and quiet. The music wasn’t too loud even though we sat right under it(to get the shadiest spot, away from the sun). And we had it all to ourselves for awhile. 2. But once it came time to order, I made another mistake. I decided to order a custom gluten-free pizza to avoid the allergens that I happen to be sensitive to, which are included in the main menu recipes. I ordered a gluten-free crust with the olive oil/garlic base, mozzarella cheese, spinach, olives, and apple-wood smoked bacon. For whatever reason, I assumed that changing the sauce base to olive oil/garlic would eliminate the standard marinara sauce base, which would have been perfect since I have a tomato allergy. Obviously, I should have asked and that was on me for assuming. But when my pizza came out, I found out otherwise. It still had the marinara(tomatoes). I couldn’t eat it. I was not at all willing to risk a reaction. I didn’t want to cause a scene or any further trouble, so I was prepared to take it home for someone else to eat and just skip on dinner for now. Admittedly, I was a bit disappointed and I felt like a total dunce for not asking beforehand. But, one of the members at our table decided to alert the waitress that I had an issue, and put me on the spotlight. I explained my mistake, and she immediately understood and put in an order for a new pizza with the *pesto* base which would not have the tomatoes which I was originally trying to avoid. The new pizza came out in about 10 minutes(maybe even less). I was astounded by how kind the staff was about it. Not a single person gave me attitude over it. They were caring, attentive, patient, and polite. I couldn’t be more appreciative for that. 3. Our waitress did not charge us for our mistake, which was, again, more gracious than I could have imagined. That knocked $ 20 off of our bill. In the end, my custom order pizza cost more than the normal gluten-free menu pizzas. The charge was about $ 12 for the crust, and just under $ 2($ 1.79) for each individual toppings. It certainly adds up quick. Under normal circumstances, I might have been more disappointed about being charged $ 20 for a pizza as I only ordered it that way to avoid allergens, and it even had less than ingredients than the normal menu recipes. BUT, I was so beyond grateful for the service I received that I would pay that times two anyday. They were truly amazing. I don’t think people realize just how difficult it can be to function and live a normal-ish life while lugging behind a whole list of allergies. I rarely, if ever, eat out because reactions are so bad that the risk is just too high. I used to more often but I learned my lesson when time and time again, I went into anaphylactic shock, had near-instant seizures, etc. To make matters worse, when I do go out(usually for the benefit of others), and if I do ever have to order anything(a lot of times I’ll just drink water), I usually receive very ill treatment. It can be very disheartening, especially when it’s not exactly something you can control. I can’t count the number of times I’ve been looked at as this pretentious, picky customer that, God forbid, has to order something gluten-free. In actuality, I’d just rather not die. :P Point being, the service at 99% of restaurants is in the negative range when it comes to handling people with allergies. The Mellow Mushroom is the 1%. I haven’t even found another restaurant that’s up to par with the service The Mellow Mushroom offers. It’s not in the 1%. It is the 1%. And I’m super thankful for the way they handled my visit, despite any inconvenience involved. I’d highly recommend it, and I’d certainly go back again — maybe a little wiser, next time. :)

After read the review from Unilocal,we decided to try out this place. We are so glad that we did. The food really is excellent. Our server Austin was super as well. I told him about the comment about taking longtime to get the pizza ready after order. He explain the process of being freshly made does take a little longer. So, we ordered the appetizer while we waited. The fact is everything we had was absolutely wonderful. We will be frequent this place for sure from now on.

This is my favorite place to get pizza or even a salad and lucky for me it is not too far from my house. I had never had some of the combinations they offer before coming here and I was not disappointed, the Mellowterranean Pizza is by far the best in my opinion. The wait staff has always been nice and attentive although it can take a mean minute to get your food sometimes, but after all it is made fresh so I wouldn’t exactly be pleased if it came right out either! My husband really enjoys their craft beer selection and I enjoy the spirits! the prices are a little higher but it is a specialty pizza establishment so that is also expected. They also now offer A gluten-free crust option so that is good for people with a gluten allergy! Anyways this is yet another establishment we will be coming back time and time again to!

First time here and loved it! Our waiter Daniel was very knowledgeable and helpful. Vegan options for food are delicious, just wished they would carry vegan desserts.

OMG love this plc. Had the best tasting Mac and cheese ever. Had ordered it for my toddler and he couldn’t stop eating it. Love the pizza as well.

1. Service — Every time we’ve been here, we had super friendly and attentive service. The setup here is simple, it’s a-la-carte. Wait to be seated by the host/hostess, order at the table, and pay at the end. 2. Price — Depending on how much you order and if you drink alcohol or not. But for two people to eat a small pizza with water, that can cost as low as $ 12.49 plus tax. So roughly $ 6 a person before tax and tips. But if you order a large pizza, with an appetizer, and a beer it can go up. We’ve walked out of there paying about $ 47 total for 2 people once. It can add up. 3. Ambiance — Hip, urban, and contemporary. The entire dining area is an open space, and it’s a relaxing environment. They have awesome welding art work hanging from the ceiling. There’s a bar there, so the vibe is pretty chill. Dress code is casual. Jeans, shorts, tshirts, and flip flops are welcomed, but I’ve seen couples that dress up as well. Great place to spend with family and your buddies. 4. Food — Whenever I dine out for Pizza, this is one of my top contenders. It beats Dolce Vita in Midtown. Who wants fancy burnt pizza? I recommend eating their Mighty Meaty Pizza and their Holy Shiitake Pie Pizza. The Salad that we often eat is the Enlightened Spinach Salad. I’m not going to describe what they are as you can see pictures on Unilocal and the descriptions on the menu. But this is what I typically order whenever I come here. For a lack of better words, you can split your Pizza into a half order. In other words, you can order a full pizza with two different flavors of your liking. Going out on a date, we usually fill up on a small. But depending on your typical load, you may want a larger size. If you’re with another dude or guy friend, small is definitely not enough. If you’re into beer, they have a huge list to choose from. They have a lot of local craft beer. You’ll want to come back to try every last one, but that is if you’re into beer. What does craft beer mean? In short, it is a small company that brews their own beer, not well known. Basically, not big commercial brewery beers. 5. Cleanliness — Clean tables, and restrooms are well maintained.

The parking lot is shared between multiple establishments so if you’re coming on a busy night, be prepared to do a little fighting for parking. Mellow Mushroom started out in Austin and has finally made it out to Houston. The pizza is delicious and fresh and made with quality ingredients. The environment has that Austin weird feeling that’s definitely a conversation starter. The caveat, the customer service. They’re well meaning and I think under staffed and under trained. So if they could just get that up to par, I feel like they’d deserve another star.

Great selection of craft beer but I will not be back for the pizza. Pepperoni and cheese used is cheap and flavorless. Overall the pizza lacked any kind of flavor or seasoning. The only saving grace for the food was the pretzels and beer cheese which was absolutely amazing. So, will be back for the beer and pretzels, but not the main entrée offered by the establishment.

Great pizza! Allen waited on my family and did an awesome job. Outlet family even received a compliment from another customer. Very friendly, we will be going back in the very near future.

There are just so many options here! Pretzels? Stuffed mushrooms? Gluten-Free this and vegan crust that! So many options! They sale pizza by the slice for lunch. They have andouille sausage for their pizza. This place is starting off on the right foot. They took the fruit punch off the menu and replaced it with Coke Zero… bad foot has inserted itself. Had a great waiter, Austin, that was friendly, patient and knowledgeable… despite being vegan! Never trust a person that can turn his back on meat! I kid, I kid! He explained that all pizzas are hand tossed and made to order. He also went through all the house favorites and made his suggestions on how to maximize my bucks and experience. He’s all good to frugal me! I opted for an appetizer since it was at least a 20 minute wait on the pizza. My choices were the following: Spinach artichoke dip — fresh sautéed spinach blended with artichokes, mozzarella and Permesan cheeses in a creamy sauce topped with shaved Parmesan and baked until it’s warm and bubbly. Served with garlic toast points. Half and half pizza split of the House special — red sauce made with mozzarella cheese, pepperoni, sausage, ground beef, ham, Applewood smoked bacon, mushrooms, black olives, Roma tomatoes, green peppers and onions. Top with extra mozzarella. & Philosopher’s Pie — olive oil and garlic base, all natural grill steak, portabella mushrooms, artichoke hearts, Kalamata olives, Provolone, feta and mozzarella cheeses. Spinach dip was a good buy. My partner in eating said the price for portion size was in a good alignment. All may slightly disagree with that assessment, but we both agree that our appetizer is yummy. How was the pizza? I can honestly say that you taste the freshness of the ingredients. They even snuck wheat flour in the crust. I wonder if that vegan Austin had anything to do with that?!? Everyone enjoyed the food and the scenery. This place off of lunch specials for $ 8, salads, hoagies calzones, fruits and vegetables even… but a variation in your calzone! There are televisions everywhere. Ask about specials. Did I mention they also have a full bar? Frugally, I may stay away from this place often, but I know I will be back… possibly for a lunch burger and drink for $ 10…or lunch pizza slices… Come through and experience this place for yourself.

Another Mellow Mushroom in another town, and another five star experience. I’ve dined at mellow mushroom restaurants in four states now. They must know what they’re doing when they set up a franchise, because it’s always been a five-star experience. This particular mellow mushroom has a really cool outdoor dining area. On a coolish Houston night it was wonderful to sit outside with the sound of the traffic going by while I enjoyed my pizza. Service was not as perfect as it could be, but frankly I didn’t care because the pizza was that good. If I’m ever in the area, you can bet I’ll be back!

Pizza is way too expensive for pizza that I personally think isn’t even better than Pizza Hut. Was really hoping for something at the level of star pizza down on the N side but oh well! I went a few weeks ago to answer your question but just got around to catching up on some reviews.

I’m always on the hunt for something affordable and good. I was in the area so I stopped to check it out! I was surprised by the taste of the pizza! The freshness of the pizza and cheeses! Needless to say I couldn’t eat all of it. Still tasted the same hours later. I most definitely be coming to visit this location. The staff was nice and very helpful with selection.

*NOTE* There will be a wait time throughout your stay; this is due to the way they make their pizzas. Do not come and expect rapid service. If you’re in a rush, I would not suggest this location. However, the wait is worth it. I often come here with my toddler and two dogs after romping about the Meyers dog park across the street. No, the dogs are NOT allowed inside the restaurant, but outside patio is okay — leashed, of course. The staff did supply a bowl of water for my pups as well. The staff is very friendly, welcoming, attentive, and informative. While I put emphasis on the wait, that is not to say you are neglected during that time. I always order the hummus. My toddler loves it. I love it. My dogs adore the pita bread. My daughter tends to nitpick her food here, but I have tasted it — it’s good. I usually get a calzone. I have learned I can order a specialty pizza and have it converted into a calzone(naturally, that will add to the wait). I need to keep remembering to ask for extra marinara on the side. While seemingly minor, I am glad that they provide your straw with the utensil pack. It not only gives my toddler busy work(painstakingly tearing off the paper bit by bit), but I also can shoot her with the paper cannon(yes, I pick up our trash). Overall, this place has the delicious food, great service, and a very chill atmosphere. I better defend my dukedom! :P

We ate at the Mellow Mushroom last night and it was pretty good. There is plenty of parking and the inside of the restaurant is large with a fun atmosphere. The service was also really good and prompt. I liked this place because it is pretty vegan friendly. We got the Mega Veggie pizza and were able to substitute the mozzarella and feta with daiya cheese. The downside was they went really heavy with the diaya cheese and it took away from the freshness of the ingredients. The crust was really good though.

I first experienced Mellow Mushroom in New Orleans & Destin, Florida & fell in love. The ingredients are so fresh & everything has such good flavor. People say its pricey, but its worth the occasional splurge to me. I wish I would have ordered my whole Pizza as the Shiitake Mushroom, because that truffle oil, garlic aoili and cheese blend was phenomenal ! I ordered the Half order of Pretzels and it was so much food. I got the smallest Pizza and ended up making 2 meals & a snack out of it. My server was really good, very attentive and super helpful. All of the young people here seemed to have a good attitude about service. I can’t wait to come back with my husband.

Monday pizza night! My sister recommended to us. Boyfriend and I got seated very quickly when we went inside. There are funky and art-filled décor inside. Menus are very large. Our server Scott was there to explain everything to us. He was very informative and patient with us. They got different typed of pizzas, appetizers, burgers, calzones, hoagies, and over 25 different craft beers. The pizzas are called pies here. You can build your own pies as well. Pies are stone-baked which makes the difference. We ordered House Special without green peppers. Pizza takes 25 mins to cook and its worth the wait so I’m told. The pizza is thin and yet big crust. It droops because there are soo many toppings on top. You need to eat it with a fork and knife. The crust are big, crispy, and unique. I like it because it’s wheat and not white flour in the pies. They have gluten free of you can’t have wheat. Funny name for the restrooms aka flushroom its very brightly lit and clean inside.

I like Mellow Mushroom. I like it a lot. I wish there were more locations around Houston! The ingredients are fresh and the pizza combos are delicious. I love meat on my pizza but I must say my favorite here is the Holy Shiitake Pie. Everything on it is delicious! They also serve Vegan cheese.

Mellow Mushroom offers a wide variety of appetizers, specialty pizzas, sandwiches, and lots of great toppings to build your own pizza. They also have an awesome draft and bottled beer list. My husband ordered a cocktail, and it was weak. Stick to beer or wine. Based on other Unilocalers, we started with the pretzels and artichoke spinach dip. The pretzels are about the size of your hand and didn’t have much flavor, but were great after dipping them in the super cheesy artichoke dip. The artichoke dip I would order again. It’s enough for 2 – 3 people. My husband ordered the House Special, basically a supreme pizza, and it was great! Mellow Mushroom Has so many topping selections, I couldn’t help but build my own pizza. They load in the toppings! Though some customers may want to order extra cheese. Their crust is a little different and very good. It’s made with flour, spring water, and molasses to give it a little color and sweetness. Next time we go I’ll likely skip the apps and gorge on their amazing pizza and beer.

Been here a few times — usually for lunch. This time — mid afternoon meal on a Saturday afternoon. Not crowded at all. Excellent attentive service. When our drinks come out, we put in our food order(pizza & half of a hoagie) — got the food without much delay — and it was hot! Always like my meals served hot! We never felt rushed — was checked on a regular basis if we needed something else. Little on the noisy side, but not bad at all. We enjoyed a nice relaxing meal — and the do have a great beer selection.
