My Family Vet

I would give them 0 stars if I could. Please don’t take your animals here. There are so many better options. They are close to my house so after adopting a dog from the shelter, I took her there for a check up and to discuss heart worm treatment. I had to wait forever and when the dr finally came in I never even got his name since there was no introduction and he wouldn’t ever make eye contact with me. Very impersonal service and you can tell they only care about money. He wouldn’t even discuss any other methods to treating heart worms, just wanted to charge me $ 1000 for the fast kill method. After an exam and some medicine for a cough they charged me $ 200. Double what any other vet would charge I bet. I will not be returning ever to my family vet.

I will not be taking my dogs here anymore. They have no sense of what good customer service is about. I have a bird dog that has been at a trainer for the last three months. When I got her back, she was vomiting after every time she ate so I wanted to bring her in to have her looked at. They advertise their hours to be open until 6 pm which is good. Like most people, I don’t get off work until 5 so I was planning on taking off a bit early and having her there by 4 (as I live and work relatively close). They told me they would not see her after 3pm and that I should try to schedule her next week. I told the lady on the phone that I guess I would have to find someone else to look at her and she told me in not so many words «do what you’ve got to do». I’m no customer service expert but that’s not a great way to please a customer especially when their slogan is: «Where we care for your pets like family — My family vet always has it’s arms open to a new family member». Therefore, I am not taking either of my dogs back there and I will be finding a new vet.

I foster for a rescue and was worried about some puppies that had been pulled from a shelter. They all had diarrhea and then two of the four started having runny noses and coughing — one was pretty lethargic which was also a new symptom since bringing them home.
I had to walk-​in because they did not have any appointments for the next few days, but they made sure that I was able to see a doctor. The desk staff are nice in person and on the phone.
The office is interesting — it’s very clean/​organized and the exam rooms look like rooms in a house. It’s definitely a more comfortable environment than a typical vet’s office.
The puppies did not have fevers (among other symptoms for parvo, coccidia, or any of the other scary illnesses puppies can get) so the diagnosis was all sorts of intestinal worms/​parasites based on the fecal exam and upper respiratory infections. I was already in the process of deworming them, but got antibiotics for their coughs. The doctor did warn that the respiratory infection could be viral in which case we’d have to wait it out, but the antibiotics would help fight anything bacterial they might pick up in the meantime.
We’re not out of the woods yet (some are still coughing) but since they are eating/​drinking/​playing which they were not all doing before, I am confident in MFV’s diagnosis at this point.

Bought my new puppy into this clinic whom had drainage from his nose, informed me it was upper respiratory infection. This puppy I adopted from a shelter; they were fully aware of it. Mentioned could be Parvo or distemper, however, since he was eating and drinking he was fine. I asked more than once to be checked for both just in case, they just blew me off. Gave me antibiotics, and dewormer for his round worms. I take him home less than a week later got extremely sick, went hospital he had Parvo died 4 days later. Did you know a chemical dewormer and parvo is an instant death? Why didn’t the Vet know? Why didn’t she check when it’s a puppy from a shelter? I blame this vet for his death. Worst care ever!

The worst .I mean WORST vet practice I’ve ever been to. My first experience was with doctor Torrance… he sauntered in late, didn’t even look at me or introduce himself. Did my puppies first exam and then I explained to him that he’ll Unilocal and run at something that seems to annoy him on his back leg. His comment «some dogs just love drama»…I had to actually ASK him to look at my dogs leg to make sure. This place is like an assembly line and NOTHING like a family vet. You walk in the front door, the machine starts working and talking your info, you’re shuffled into a room where one of many vets comes in and then you are shuffled to the back where you pay and in a full circle, out the door and you’re gone. My second experience was with another vet because I will never see Torrance again… I felt he was arrogant, aloof and unprofessional when he couldn’t even bother telling me who he was and his flippant (drama filled comment) about MY dog being dramatic! I adopt a new puppy with all kinds of medical problems. My 2^nd vet is Dr. Pena or Penza? He was polite and introduced himself but when he read that the shelter spayed her while they did surgery for her dropped uterus, he looked up and said «hmmm…» (not a good sign). I asked him what the «hmmm» was all about and he said he’s just wondering why the dropped uterus. I asked him what he feels it could be, although I’d already googled it myself and it’s DROPPED UTERUS 101 with ALL kinds of info on goggle about female dogs generally have had a instantaneous abortion due to bad pregnancy or a difficult/​forced pregnancy which causes the uterus to push through while giving birth. I was prepared for this answer when he said «she was probably brought in to the shelter after being hit by a car» (for real?). I ask «couldn’t it be trauma due to difficult birthing? «Oh yess… that too». (I took her back to the shelter to have her stitches removed and actually talked to the vets assistant before speaking to the vet himself and the assistant actually drew me a picture of what happens and said that my dog had a c-​section and they found a dead puppy in her… this was an assistant that drew a picture and this DOCTOR doesn’t even consider this at MFV??? I’m not feeling good about experience number 2! I then note her mangy looking ears that had no hair and he said they could do a fungus scrape on the ears and find out what it is. He said that in 2 weeks time I would get a call back from them giving me the results of the test. It’s been a month TODAY and NO CALL. I wonder if I’ll get one now so they don’t have to give me the refund I’m going to ask for since they’ve not given me the results of a test I PAID FOR. My new dog also had kennel cough and so they give me drugs for that but since it’s contagious I tell them it’s nearly impossible to keep my other dog away for 2 weeks so should I give him something too. Understandably, he said he doesn’t like to give drugs if they other dog doesn’t have anything but of course, my other dog get it too. Before you know it, they both have it and water stool so I’m having to call back to now get drugs for the watery stool. I was told they’d have a doctor call me back that day… NO CALL BACK. I then go in to the vets the following day to get the drugs and the girl at the desk is so insanely busy with the phone ringing off the hook and the assembly line and money making machine going that she can barely take a breathe! She is so hurried she says «I’ll take your number and have a vet call you»…ahhhhh…NO! Because that never happens, hell… if I can’t get results from a test a month ago do you really think they’re going to call me back when they said they would TWICE? Someone then rushes out and says «the doctor said give these 2 drugs to each of them and the instructions are on them»…I’m standing there reading that one of the 2 drugs is an antibiotic. I ask them, «but what’s the antibiotic for?»… reply «the doctor prescribed it that way so just read the instructions»… I asked again, same reply… and on the 3^rd ask… I tell them I want to know WHY my dog is being given a antibiotic along with the anti diarrhea drug!!! Finally, a vet comes out and he’s quite nice and seems to know what he’s doing when he explains to me exactly what each one is to do. Somewhere in there I actually went back a 3^rd time and that was ONLY because I had heard dr. Erin Mcmasters? was excellent and I was not disappointed in her. The other doctor that explained everything Ness? was good as well… Again, i’ve paid for a test and it’s been a month and no call so they’ll be paying me back for that test. This is WITHOUT A DOUBT the worst practice I’ve ever been to… EVER. it’s all about quantity and NOT quality at all. I’d put up with it if it was cheaper but it’s not at all so it’s really about a money making machine. I will begin looking for a «family vet» that will be part of our family!

I started going here about six weeks ago after I found Dr. Hees worked there. He used to be our vet at another practice and I was not happy with who we had after he left. I love the staff at this office and Dr. Hees will always and forever be our vet for any of our animals. I am sorry it took me so long to find My Family Vet, but I am so glad I did.

Dr. Scott, today was more than likely just another typical day for you (although I hope it was extraordinarily wonderful).
However, today means the world to our family and I would like to take the opportunity to say thank you (although, the phrase simply cannot adequately display our appreciation.)
Two years ago today, you took two Grade II mast cell tumors out of our beloved boxer, Skylar, two weeks short of her 7^th birthday.
I remember the day, and the events leading up to it, like it was yesterday:
~Although it wasn’t necessary, I remember my 6 yr old daughter and 9 year old son offering up their Christmas money the night before the procedure to help save their best friend. Further, I remember making the phone call to my children while they were in school, as I promised, to tell them your surgery was successful. I cannot thank you enough for your efforts.
~I recall Jennifer (a wonderful member of your staff who lost her boxer to mast cell tumors the year before) staying in constant contact with me while Skylar was with y’all that day. That afternoon, we were given the «ok» that we could come and get her. There were several people waiting in front of us and Jennifer saw my 6 yr old daughter standing between my husband and me. She was bravely fighting the urge to cry while she grasped our hands. Jennifer urgently and apologetically announced to everyone that she had to skip the line so she could «get this little girl’s dog back into her arms.» As I recall, there wasn’t a dry eye in the place as Skylar was brought out to us all bandaged up.
Finally, as you may recall from our visit a few weeks ago, I will never forget the words that came out of your mouth as you told me that our Skylar (9 years old on February 8^th) is in exceptional health. Words cannot describe our excitement considering the fact that we were incorrectly told by another vet (during an unrelated emergency visit) earlier last year that a few benign bumps were a reoccurrence.
Simply put, your dedication to our girl has brought more to our family than you will ever know, Dr. Scott. You have become a household name. Our children often speak of you and recall the time that Skylar’s life was saved in your hands.

Today we had to put our puppy down. He was not quite two and had medical issues that made it to where keeping him with us was less humane than letting him go. We have been going to MyFamily Vet for a while and the treatment we got today cemented our relationship with them from now on. The vet came up with a plan to try and get around his issues and once we had exhausted every option, he helped us reach the necessary step and let him go. The level of compassion and caring he showed towards our dog was amazing. Although having a dog put down is never the end result you want, I have no doubt that it was the right decision.
So thank you to My Family Vet and Dr. Hees for helping us with these issues. You have fully earned a five star rating.

I took a STRAY dog there on ⁷⁄₂₄ to see if she was chipped. As I previously stated the male vet was very rude when all I wanted to know is if the dog is ready to give birth or had recently given birth as she was full of milk and dripping… so I could look for stray puppies if needed. The office tech scanned her. no chip then put me in a room. The male vet came in and his only answer was… Yep…she’s healthy. maybe a UTI but without xray cant tell if she is still pregnant… didn’t even put a steth on her tummy or anything, I asked if we should try and express her milk as she was extremely full… again. he had no response… so I started to get my things together to leave (w/​my daughter and the stray dog) and he said just a moment… handed me a bill and $ 47.50 later!!! Now I have two dogs that I had taken there religiously… they always get paid at time of service… and I have paid them a lot of $$ trust me… The next day (25^th) I called to speak with the OM about the treatment I received form this male vet… Monday comes and goes… no call back… it took another call and email from me for her to to finally call me back on the 30^th. I was very pleasant and informed her that although the front office and tech were very pleasant that the vet made me feel like an idiot and was very short/​mean about the entire situation and answered nothing for me. She had actually thanked me for bringing it to her attention and she’d let Dr. Scott know and she would refund me the $ 47.50. Well… I went to the vet on ⁹⁄₁₈ to pick up pills for my dog expecting to have a credit on my account… nope no credit. So I called on the 25 and left messages everyday till today… I was even told they had tried to call me and left a vm for me… I went to verizon thinking my phone missed them… they verified no calls from them. So today I refused to have a call back and that I would hold to speak w/​om. She picked up to inform me that she had all the notes from our talk and was planning to give me the refund but when she went to the vet for approval that she was told not to give it to me as I ‘BASHED” them on FB and didn’t remove my comments. Well. my original post on my neighborhood FB page was…“recommendations on small animal vets close by? I’m leaving My Family Vet due to very rude service on a stray I took to be checked for chip”…after speaking w/​the OM I did do a rebuttal that said she was taking care of the matter and restated that to office staff was nothing but pleasant. (I guess that didn’t get relayed to the vet) Regardless… I have managed medical facilities before and I would never have not returned a patient call within 72hrs and I sure the hell would have called the patient and explained why I wasn’t giving them a refund. Anyways… I suppose my expectations were set way too high for this office…
and wanted to let others know that the owner WILL NEVER call you back if there is an issue…

Zero stars. Quoted me a price and charged way more than that without contacting me about any treatment. Had all kinds of excuses and refused to even meet me part way with the difference. Money hungry.

Do NOT bring your animal here. I used My Family Vet about 5 years ago and remember being unsatisfied with the doctor’s diagnosis, but after returning to Houston and needing an emergency visit, I went back. I have, after all, known parents who were satisfied.
Side note: My dog is a 70lb shar pei mix who is 6 years old. She, at the time of the visit, could not even move. I was carrying her everywhere, including in and out of an SUV (not an easy task), and up and down the home stairs.
My dog was experiencing fever, vomiting, lethargy, not eating, not urinating or defecating, and a HUGE swollen leg. She was seen by Dr. Torrance, who immediately says he doesn’t believe it to be a broken leg (in fact, he said it’s «highly unlikely»). They said all those symptoms were caused by her pain. He decided to stick a needle in her to see if he could get puss to see if it was an abscess. After the test, he said he could not get any puss, and that it was likely not an abscess. He then said we should get an X-​ray done just to rule out a broken leg. The fun part is that their X-​ray machine was down, so I had to load up my dog and take her to another clinic. (NOT INCONVENIENT AT ALL! They could have mentioned that when I called to schedule the appt and said my dogs leg might be broken). I was told the X-​ray would be $ 150.
I came back to the clinic, and after reviewing the X-​rays, he concluded that it was not a broken leg. He then said it HAD TO BE an abscess. When we asked questions like «how does this happen?» «what causes this?» «what can we do?’ His response was that something EXTERNAL did this to her. He prescribed amoxicillin and rimadyl, and told us to feed her chicken to get her to eat so she doesn’t become dehydrated. I asked a million questions about how long before her symptoms improve, and he said «As long as her mood is better, she should be fine… but it could take up to 4 weeks for her leg to go down.» 4 weeks??? Seriously?
Within 3 hours of leaving the clinic, the receptionist called me to tell me they forgot to bill me for the X-​rays, which she said would cost $ 178 (what happened to $ 150???).
I gave her the medication, and within 4 hours, another symptom occurred– panting. As I was worried that she could be having an allergic reaction, I called MFV to see if that could be it. The receptionist, who clearly knows nothing, told me immediately to rush her to the ER (who tells a worried parent that???). Finally a vet tech told me that she could be euphoric from the rimady and not to worry.
Within 24 hours after taking the medication, her symptoms got even worse. Her leg was getting bigger and bigger. And I went ahead and emailed MFV some photos so they could see how it had progressed. MFV had also sent me ePetHealth registration so I logged on. I clicked on «Breed Info» to start my own research. I saw «Shar-​Pei Fever,» and immediately started reading up on it. The symptoms are: fever, swelling of a joint, reluctance to move, mild vomiting, panting, etc… ALL OF HER SYMPTOMS. She had every single one. And after looking at pictures online, I knew that’s what she had. I took her to the Emergency Clinic.
Turns out, yes, she does have Familial Shar-​pei Fever. The doctor said this is the worst case she’s seen. The doctor told me that she should be on a protein-​restricted diet (thanks for the chicken recommendation, MFV!). This is a hereditary disorder (INTERNAL, NOT EXTERNAL!!) that if left untreated can lead to amyloidosis (essentially kidney and liver failure). Test results show her kidneys are not working properly. She should be on Colchicine to prevent amyloidosis. It took a second opinion and almost $ 500 to figure this out.
I understand Shar-​peis are a rare breed. But a simple google search on the breed could have helped the doctor at MFV figure this one out. Every single one of her symptoms matched up! Every one. While I understand he is a young doctor, there are several other doctors at the clinic, and he could have asked for a second opinion. And if none of them would have caught this, then that tells you something!
If you’re going in for vaccinations, they are fine, but otherwise, find somewhere else. I am so disappointed in this place. I’ve spent almost $ 1000 in the past 3 days trying to find her diagnosis. Now I have to take her back to a doctor so I can find her a primary that will write her Colchicine (this is a medication she has to be on for life). I am searching for a shar-​pei specialist now.

I’m happy to say that all 3 of my dogs have become part of the My Family Vet family. My 2 boys have been there just for regular check-​ups and my little girl for a spay. All of the staff are nice.

I am new in town so I knew no vets in the area until a local pet sitter recommended this vet office. Just outside of The Woodlands, but still very central and didn’t take long to reach during morning traffic from College Park. My cat had a UTI scare, so they were able to accommodate an appointment for me first thing am– they open at 7am. They offer reasonable prices for a vet and called the next day to follow up. The vet even took time to speak with me about my concerns and offer additional prescriptions to aid in a slow recovery for my cat. The location is in what seems to be an old wooden house with a garden out front. It had a family feel to it that made me feel comfortable and Im glad to have found this vet office.

Great vet! We come here all the time! Fantastic service and amazing team! On a non-​vet point my suitcase was left in the parking lot by my other half after our appointment at 10:45 today. I have important medication in the bag that I am prescribed and must take regularly. My boyfriend has some important belongings in the bag that are registered to him as well. If anyone knows of the bags where abouts, has the bag, or any information. Please please get in touch with us.

I was very sceptical of this place at first. My wife had been taking her animals here and liked the place. This vet has won me over. Dr Erin McMaster has gone above and beyond several times. The last time, she took the time to say a prayer when we had to put an animal down. That really made the difference. This vet is also less expensive then others I have used.

We used to like it but then 1 of dogs got really sick. My husband took her in, paid $ 240 for them to say they didn’t know what was wrong with her. Didn’t give her any meds. I went online and looked up her symptoms, she had the dog flu. Then they had the audacity to call my husband and say they forgot to charge him $ 18 for something else and wanted him to drive back there and pay them. He refused because it was their fault «they forgot» and they didn’t do anything for our dog. They then threatened to send collections after us. Not the way a vet has EVER treated me or my other pets. I refuse to return seeing as I did a better job diagnosing and treating my puppy. FIND SOMEWHERE ELSE!

I WILL NOT GO BACK TO MY FAMILY VET EVER!!! I took my dog in 2 ½ weeks ago, I told them that she had loose stool, she was lethargic, and she wasn’t eating normally. When I got there, they asked me if she was spayed, I said no, and they immediately assumed that maybe she had some sort of vaginal infection and this was the cause of her problems, even though there were no signs of an infection, and they said she seemed fine, they asked me to check her pee that evening and if her pee seemed abnormal to bring her in for some blood work, and sent me on my way. Her pee that evening was normal, so I did not take her back in for blood work. Well today (2 ½ weeks later), my dog vomited up a pig/​cow hoof that I gave her just a few days before I took her to the vet. I had forgotten that I gave her the pigs hoof, so I did not inform the vet about it. I called the vet freaking out about it, angry that the vet didn’t try to do more to find out what was causing my dog’s lethargy, they said I should bring her in for another visit ($) and an xray ($). When I finally spoke to Dr. Scott, she was very angry and defensive and said that I was to blame for them not finding out about her stomach, that I was basically a terrible pet owner (parent as she put it) for not bringing her back in (which she seemed slightly better then before so of course I didn’t take her in), and they were at no fault. She also described what I had told them during the first visit and no where in what she read did it say she had loose stool, wasn’t eating, and was lethargic. She accused me of not saying things that would have been «key» to find out what was wrong. WHAT MORE ELSE DO I NEED TO SAY THEN MY DOG ISN’T EATING, HAS LOOSE STOOL, AND IS LETHARGIC!!! This is ridiculous, and I will not put up with this. The last time I took a dog to a vet, (my last dog) and they assumed something that was incorrect, she ended up dying the next day. So what I learned about this vet is they only want your money, and they DO NOT listen.
Pertaining to the message that Dr. Scott left in retaliation to my review:
To anyone looking over these reviews, see, look at how she gets defensive and tries to make you appear bad. As I said before in my review and on the phone, that I had completely forgotten about the cow/​pig hoof (or dried up piece of carcass as you feel you should call it) that I had given her a few days before. I figured the hoof would be fine because they are sold at any pet store in the chew isle (I got it from Petco), so I gave it to her. I am not an «irresponsible parent» as you keep calling me, if I was an irresponsible pet owner, would I have taken her to a VET? However, you still fail to see the point here is that no one listened to me when I brought my pet in. I stated she wasn’t eating normally, was lethargic, and her poop was not as normally formed. Something should have been done when I said these things. However, you and your techs seemed to only listen to the part where I said she was not spayed, and decided to focus on that. And where was I in the 16 days between the vet visit and the call? Well she wasn’t as lethargic as she was when I brought her in 2 ½ weeks ago, she was eating a little better, and was a little more active then before, you had said she was fine, that she was probably depressed, had reached her adulthood and changed habits, or had the vaginal infection (which her pee looked fine so I wasn’t concerned with that) so I just assumed she was fine. If a vet said she was okay, then I figured the vet wouldn’t be wrong about it, and maybe I was just over-​thinking it and my dog was actually okay. Any other normal person would do the same thing. We don’t know about vet care, so we do what the veterinarian says, if they say our pet is fine, then we assume they are fine (unless of course if my dog had gotten worse, but she got a little better, not normal, but better). I do appreciate the call back, but I don’t believe that you did it out the kindness of your heart in your oh-​so-​busy schedule, I believe you did it because the receptionist didn’t know what to do with a freaking out client, so you called me back to find out what was going on, but when you did call me, all you did was insult me. I should also add that Dr. Scott, after seeing my review, called me requesting me to remove my negative review, but I don’t understand how she thinks calling her would even change my mind, a bad experience is still a bad experience. If you have so many clients that love you, then one bad review shouldn’t hurt right?!? I hope that people can see how Dr. Scott responded to my review and use it to their advantage in choosing a vet.

I suppose they did a good job at removing my dogs lump but they charged me an extra $ 150 for something i did not request.
After talking several useless phone calls i eventually met the business manager at the location who just defended the mistake of her employee and pretty much flat out called me a liar (as i let the girl behind the counter check off the surgery form for me).
All in all my dog is doing fine and that is what matters but they were completely unapologetic about adding services that i did not request and charging me for it.
I will not even go into the very long wait time it took on my first visit to get someone to see my dog. (I had to stay one hour into a little room)

Dr Scott and staff are the Best! I have never walked in and not had at least 2 staffers come and give one of my dogs a hug within minutes of walking in! As far as In room service with Doctor Scott she takes her time doing one of the most thorough exams I have ever seen, And I have seen more that most. But my dogs tell me the truth about how they fill about it every time we go, Always with tails wagging!
I recommend them to all my family and friends.

Wonderful service, timely visits and fair cost. Vets are very trustworthy and don’t guilt trip or try to sell you unnecessary stuff. They have always seen us the same day I call if I need to bring the dogs in quickly. I recommend them to every one.
