I ordered mostly nigiri(tako, ika, maguro, sake, hamachi, tamago), a salmon skin cucumber roll, and ikura. The rice was dry and hard. I think either the rice wasn’t cooked correctly, not fresh, or was of poor variety. The nigiri was entirely ill shaped, and the hardness of the nigiri was inconsistent. Some fell apart upon picking the sushi up with my fingers while others were packed far too tightly. The sushi was messy and not presentable. Some nigiri had grains of rice stuck on top of the neta. There was quite a bit of contamination, and I found small foreign pieces such as cucumber and things inside the rice of the nigiri. I suspect the chef had dirty hands or a dirty counter top. The small dish for soy sauce had a rim that made the dish too deep to get just the right amount of soy sauce. The neta was fresh and good, except the maguro was not worth the money. I’ve had better salmon in Arizona. Tamago was too thin. The folks were friendly and customer service was good. They could use some better decoration and music. I don’t remember seeing a single manekineko, and though it’s not a requirement, perhaps it’s an indication that the owner is possibly not Japanese. They should try intrumental shamisen or koto music at low volume rather than American pop music.

We popped in here after exploring Zion. It was delicious! Everyone must try the O.M.G. roll, it was to die for. It was a recommendation from our cute server Lynda, and she was spot on. It is accurately named. Will be coming back and bringing family! Cheers.

Great spot. Michael is a great guy! The rolls were on point and he had some Fannie Bays in fresh that were monsters. Definitely recommend. Also, they have«make your own karaōke». Just ask for permission first… Michael will sing with you too. He’s got some solid pipes!

Our experience at Baby Sumo was such an unexpected treat. From the amazing service to the great ambiance and fantastic sushi we enjoyed the entire sushi experience. We sat at the sushi bar with Michael, owner and sushi chef, who was fantastic. He directed us towards the best product he had in from salmon and white tuna to fanny bay oysters; he was also a great host and kept us laughing! Being from San Diego there is not shortage of great seafood but Baby Sumo can hold its own! Give it a try, you won’t be disappointed!

My wife & I are in town on vacation. Now on our last night here«after 4 nights» we gave this place a try. Boy do I wish we would have tried it on the first night ‼ This is the best food we have had on our trip. I do highly recommended this place, give it two

Absolutely awful! The sushi was not fresh, avocado in California roll was brown, udon chicken tastes like Campbell’s chicken noodle soup. Pot stickers were tempura, salmon in the salmon and fried rice was overlooked and dry. Sushi was sent back. Most restaurants would send someone over to apologize or see if there is something else they could get you but they did not. Ended up being a very expensive dinner that was unbeatable … Take my advice, stay away!

Love Sumo Baby! The service is great, Linda our hostess taught us how to do real saki bombs. Food is great and not overpriced for the area. Also, sitting outside is a plus, you have beautiful views of Zion National Park! Will def. be back on my next trip!

Came to have dinner here tonight with family after doing a 2-hr drive, on top of almost a weeklong roadtrip, so we were looking for a nice, sit down dinner and my aunt was wanting Japanese. So I looked it up and found this place – it was my fault I didn’t check the Unilocal reviews beforehand. I strolled in late, my family was already seated for about 15 – 20 mins and noticed they haven’t even gotten drinks, not even water! so I gave it another 5 – 10 mins and my aunt mentioned they’ve been waiting a long time(my little cousins were also pretty hungry already too). I decided to get up and find the next worker I could grab – John. I explained the issue to him and he nicely said he will notify the server. After several more minutes, the waitperson still hasn’t visited our table, so I wildly waved John down and asked if we can order through him instead. He politely agreed and began taking our order. I went back to our room in La Quinta to grab something and when I returned, my aunt had already complained to management. Linda came and said she was the server and was trying to explain that there was a miscommunication between the hostess and her, blaming the hostess that she didn’t inform her that we were her guests(even though we’ve already been seated for a loooong time and she’s already passed us by several times!). Before i came back, my aunt said she asked the hostess who the manager was(she & John didn’t really want to say who the server was.) she said she was the manager. I normally am pretty gentle with laying truth out but being a manager means owning up to mistakes & not blaming other people. She was gung-ho in trying to explain why & still had an argumentative tone. So my aunt was all the more getting upset(which she had every right to be). I had to ask her if she was trying to apologize, only by this time did she lower her tone and agreed. We finally had dinner, she said she was going to try to do something regarding the bill. Most restaurants, because of customer dissatisfaction, cover 100%, she only did 10%. We can pay the full amount, her actions were really not managerial & had poor customer service. Even tho she gave us mochi for free as dessert and even added about 4 pcs of vegetable tempura, the experience definitely left a bad taste in my mouth. how you make a person feel goes a long way, so great customer service and being non-discriminatory are SUPERIMPORTANT(we are Asian, too). On the other hand, John was nice, polite and accommodating, sooo the other star is really for him. I hope him and others would learn to not be like this Linda lady & continue to provide great service – others deserve to be promoted while others should be demoted.

The most poorly run restaurant I have visited… They have lots and lots of open tables and yet with a 20 minute wait that led to Half hour After the half hour I complained. «give us a table» «No there are others waiting ahead of you» «there is one group of 4 ahead of us, everyone behind us got tired of waiting and left. There is at least 15 open tables» please seat us and the people ahead of us“ No there is a 20 minute wait Interesting side note, during all this time 2 people came in who obvious knew the owners and sat right down… This happened twice. My conclusion; If you’re a tourist stay away We gave them an argument and left

SOSOSOSLOW! It’s been 45 minutes since I ordered and still haven’t gotten my sushi. The rest of my table has been given their food. I’m still waiting. There are only a few other tables dining, so not like it’s busy. My friend got the fillet mignon– medium rare– and got a plate of overly cooked meat pieces.(See pic) Wait staff was polite. I believe service was so slow to the understaffed kitchen.

The food was incredible. My crew tried a little of everything on the menu. The filet mignon bowl with egg noodles was so hearty and delish. The meat was cooked perfectly. The sushi was fresh and there were so many options! Right up there with the five star food was the five star service. Our server went over and beyond countless times and made it fun to be there.
