First and foremost, Gina is an absolute dolllll! I called in at around 4 – 4:30p on a Friday night, and they were able to book me in for a 5:45p! They actually called me around 4:45−5p saying Gina finished up early and could take me whenever I was ready. I went in around 5:30p and left before 6:20p! I have very thick, naturally curly Latina hair so timing was OUTSTANDING. She understood me wanting to grow out my hair and that I didn’t want but just the bare minimum cut off :) She suggested lots of great products and guess what?! First-time guests apparently get 20 percent off products! $ 37 for a cut, blow dry and flat iron style… pft! Not bad ATALL! Especially compared to BJs! I definitely made my next appointment :)

Appearances is large, but has a welcoming environment that I like much better than the other major salon in town. They allow a little more time for appointments, so it does not feel like a hair factory where you’re processed as quickly as possible. I’ve only seen two stylists here, but I’ve been happy with both and they seemed happy to be working there too. Makes a difference. This place needs to advertise more as is has a very low profile. Turn south at Culvers on west Wabash and it is at the end of the street.

Cara was my hairstylist for over a year before I moved out of state, and she was awesome! The receptionists are always friendly and welcoming, and the salon has better prices than BJ’s Salon which is where I used to go for many years before switching here. Funny enough, the founder of Appearances is the«B» from BJ’s(they split years ago), that’s what Cara told me anyway. So the two salons are very similar in quality, atmosphere and pricing though Appearances has better prices on certain things and people there seem friendlier. Never got any other services here though so I can’t rate anything else besides the receptionists and the hair services.
