Charlie’s is one of those great unassuming restaurants. It’s one of the best restaurants I’ve been to on the north shore, which so happens to be next to one of the worst restaurants I have dined at. The Fried Mushroom appetizer is huge, enough for 4 people. I had the T-Bone Steak, and my dining companion had the 10 oz Ribeye. Both steaks were cooked perfectly and well seasoned. The service was also excellent. We will definitely be back again. I hear their seafood entrées are very good too.

Can you say fried? The portions are HUGH. Do yourself a favor and each order a bowl of gumbo and salad and split a platter of fried fish. We enjoyed the casual ambiance. This is definitely a local place and they were lined up at 6 p.m. to get in. The food was well prepared, service excellent, atmosphere casual and fun. I enjoyed the food but hardly touched the french fries and half the fish because of the portion size. How about offering half portions for half price?

I’ve eaten at Charlies 4 – 5 times over the last 5 years or so. If I didn’t live 60 miles away that number would be greatly amplified. I’ve never had a bad meal here. Seafood is nicely fried. Spuds are amazing. Specials are a great deal. And the stuffed mushroom app… oh the stuffed mushroom… oh…

The exterior is pretty shanty looking, but locals love this place and since it’s open only Wednesdays-Sundays– it’s always packed! I ordered to go for a party of 3: 16 oz Ribeye, Fried Alligator Bites, Seafood Gumbo, Cajun Pasta, and Charlie’s Platter. The ribeye was pretty tender and prepared to the right temperature. The alligator bites was a large portion to appease the alligator crave in you and your friends. The seafood gumbo didn’t stand out from other gumbos I have had. The Cajun Pasta has good seasoning with the local flair. Pretty simple dish with lots of pasta. The Charlie’s Platter has juicey breaded fried shrimp, crawfish tails, the frog legs were pretty succulent and well seasoned, the stuff crab was ehh. not too special, but the soft-shelled crab was fresh. The house salad dressing was pretty stellar! Overall, the food is worth eating and leftovers aren’t bad either because of the large portions!
