Adorable store with lots of great, unique brands such as Out of Print(classic book themed clothes and gifts).

Five Pound Apparel is my favorite locally owned retail store in Springfield. This location, in downtown Springfield is well stocked with apparel, shoes, and gift items. It’s a fun place to shop — you’ll find items you can’t get anywhere else in the SGF area — and the staff is super helpful. The Missouri is Awesome apparel line is very fun — they make great husband and boyfriend gifts, and my «Eat MO Veggies» t-shirt is so soft and comfy. Maybe you have to be FROM Missouri to really appreciate some of them, but they make fun souvenirs for you out of towners who have a sense of humor. This line is how the store originated. The sale of each item creates a donation of 5 pounds of food to a food bank. Many of the other items Five Pound Apparel sells also have a social good component, like TOMS shoes and sunglasses, Crochet Kids, and FEED Bags. There are many more — the store’s tag line is that everything they sell helps someone, somewhere. I really love that. Some of my favorite purchases from Five Pound are eco-friendly clothes that are comfortable, fashionable, and decently priced. If you like to shop local, want to show off your Missouri pride, or like it when your purchases create good in the world, then you’ll want to get yourself to this fun little shop on the main drag downtown(or, you can check out their other location at Farmer’s Park on the south side of town).

I love this store! The shirts are printed on American Apparel clothing and are the softest material, they have great gifts and jewelry as well. I live in Southern California and this store would fit in great there, I make a point to shop here every time I’m in Springfield. Stop by this store, you won’t be disappointed!!!

I’m really confused by the other reviews, as they gave me an expectation of a fun store with fun t-shirts. I hijacked a few coworkers en route to a work event while we were in town and dragged them here, promising a fun store with funny t-shirts. We walked in to a very upscale hipster-type store with a few ‘unisex’(yeah, to me, that mean’s men’s) shirts and none of them were very funny. The store was really quiet and uncomfortable.

I came here after a friend of mine wore a shirt that said«Spingfield, MO… Where Dreams Come True». Pretty hilarious and ironic, so I went to pick up one of my own. The atmosphere is cool. It is Springfield’s take on a cool shop that belongs in SoHo or Brooklyn. Not too big, but plenty of cool clothing options and some really interesting gift ideas. After visiting, I learned the background of the store and that makes the place even cooler. The name comes from the fact that they donate 5 lbs of food for every t-shirt you purchase from them. They also donate shoes, money, etc. to help out the community. Very proud of this store and all they represent. Great job guys!

5 Pound seems to be local favorite and I can understand why. A nice boutique tucked away in downtown, this place has a charming appeal. The staff is courteous and helpful, plus both times I have been in they have carried themselves very well. Overall 5 Pound has a «look» that goes really well with my own style, sadly though they don’t have much of a selection for the men. What they do have though is Missouri pride! I’m not talking about a ton of junk that happens to say the state’s name, I mean really well thought out and cool stuff. My favorite shirt, which the husband actually got, is a picture of Missouri and Kansas. Missouri is labeled appropriately and then Kansas just says«not Missouri.» Perfect for a guy living in KC! They have a huge selection of Toms and some other«cause» apparel and accessories. Throughout the store are also some household goods and what-not. Overall I really enjoy walking though and will surely end up buying something during a future visit. If you’re of the lady close wearing variety(lady or not), 5 Pound has some really great pieces you should check out!

A lot of clothing/speciality stores have failed miserably in downtown Springfield. They often offer high priced clothing that isn’t that unique or special. 5 pound apparel not only offers unique clothing and accesories they are fairly priced. They don’t appear to have much in stock, but when you take a closer look the quality of the things they do have is amazing. I’ve purchased some jewelry and a pair of Ssekos. The Ssekos are a must have summer sandal for ladies. I enjoy that 5 pound apparel gives back and they will have jewelry, clothes, accesories made by groups trying to make money for women going to school etc. If you buy it. you almost always can read on where the item you are purchasing comes from! So cool! I envy every friend who has the Springfield, MO, Where dreams come true shirt.(Birthday present hint, hint!)

5 Pound has a nice selection of casual clothing, as well as accessories and gifts. My favorite purchases have been t-shirts, which are sized well and soooo comfortable! Check out the«Out of Print» shirts(which feature book covers) and their creative«Missouri is Awesome» shirt series. This place is worth a look!

Tall windows that almost stretch from the sidewalk seam to the hem of the ceiling give passerby a preview of the trendy and unique garments that populate 5 Pound Apparel. The collection as a whole is modest, but it makes up for this in quality and intention. They carry both mens and womens apparel, with a number of handmade and conscientious accessories. The style of the products lean more on the side of staples and basics. like a fine cotton V-neck tee, or cozy well made sweater. There are also a number of handmade scarves, knit hats and rustic jewlery to fill in the gaps too. After spending a little time in the store with the generously helpful and knowledgeable staff, how could one not on some level support, or at least intuitively respond to the motive behind 5 Pound Apparel? Not only do they select companies that commit to socially responsible and/or fair trade practices but they donate 5 pounds of nutritional treatment to their partner Nepal Nutrition for each of their branded items sold. Spending money is actually a little easier here, when you know the source of your product as well as a cause that your hard earned cash is helping to sustain. Aside from their almost unheard of progressive practices, 5 Pound provides a tactile and welcoming shopping experience. The warm show window exterior dotted with inviting clothing teasers, softly drags one in from the street and truly succeeds in providing an alternative shopping experience. I encourage anyone who has tired of the impersonal drudgery that is «mall» shopping to give 5 Pound a try. I dare you to not be impressed.
