I like this place because it is one of 2 places that there are in Springfield for indian food. I wish there were more places

I am so disappointed. The old owners stated that the new owners would use the same cook. The food is not even comparable. I used to order takeout at least once a week and won’t even bother now. The sauces are watery and the spices are lacking. I want my old Gateway back :(

Really disappointed today. My friends and I have been here multiple times and have never had a problem with service before. All to-go orders have always been ready at the time suggested. Today a group of 7 of us showed up for dinner and got seated right away. When it came to getting utensils because we didn’t have enough, or water and water glasses because we didn’t have enough, that was not done speedily. When it came to ordering appetizers and drinks, that took 50 minutes before we even got drinks brought to the table. Dinner entrees took at least another hour. We inquired multiple times on missing orders/drinks/dinner entrees and we were told things were«coming.» At the end of the meal upon discussing what may have happened or what could be done differently for next time, the staff merely shrugged their shoulders and did not offer an apology for the lack of service provided. This is deeply disappointing as this establishment was one of the best, and as you know, good local restaurants are hard to come by in Springfield. Customer satisfaction is key in any restaurant, and here they clearly do not have the customers best interest in mind.

IT was the worst service ever!! We waited for over 30 mins for drinks only to ask another waitress and to find out they were out of what we had ordered. Then our waitress who looked like she either didn’t speak English or couldn’t understand English didn’t come back to take our orders until an hour after we had sat down. To top it off when we told the owner who could tell we were obviously upset with the service and he could care less. It’s very disappointing when a place you previously had enjoyed going changes management to have the worst food and poor cleanliness in Springfield.

We have been here many times, both for dinner(off the menu) and for lunch and weekend buffet. We have never been disappointed. Everything is always delicious! The owners are just genuinely nice people too!

I’ve been coming here at least once or twice a month for the last several years(which tells you how much I loved it), but they recently made some changes and nothing tastes the same anymore. I’ve had chicken vindaloo at a lot of places and it is generally the same everywhere, so I don’t know how they could’ve messed this up. What I got this time was more like vegetable soup instead of having a rich sauce and instead of basmati rice there was sticky rice with way too much clove in it. :(

On a business trip to Springfield from hometown Chicago and didn’t want any of the«chain» restaurants dominating springfield’s culinary landscape. Went to Taste of India and very surprised. One of the best Indian places I’ve been to. Menu is huge… almost overwhelming. The dish I ordered took a while but it was, I believe, made from scratch. Huge portion with half taken home with me. Service was just ok and the atmosphere leaves a lot to be desired. But it’s the food that counts here. Very good. I will be going back.

A must go to and regular spot for me and my family. Since moving to Springfield almost 2 years ago I was so happy to find amazing ethnic food. Just a good as the stuff I’ve had in Chicago growing up. Actually even a step up. Top 3 Indian restaurants I’ve been to in the country. While the atmosphere might not be any bring special, the food is top notch.

My family is in a food coma! Excellent service and food at a reasonable price. Gateway to India is an authentic Indian restaurant that is open Sun thru Sat for lunch. Last time we enjoyed good authentic Indian food was 4 years ago when we lived in Washington DC. The wait staff were friendly and attentive. The selection of foods on the buffet were varied and deliciously prepared. You won’t go wrong by giving this place a try. I now need to go take a nap.

The worst Experience I ever had… Soon after We enter the place for lunch buffet. The owner was shouting at us saying the foods done and get some food to us(restaurant) in a sarcastic way which is very bad experience we ever had at any other places. Don’t ever go to a restaurant who don’t really welcome you

I wish there is less than a start to rate it worst. Rude behaviour from the management before being seated and don’t even recommend it for a single visit.

I really enjoy this restaurant. The food is very good here and it is a great place to go when we are in Springfield. If you aren’t acquainted with Indian food, the menu has excellent descriptions of their different items and you can get them at your own spice tolerance. Very nice clean environment and the waitstaff is prompt in keeping water glasses filled and dirty plates cleared away.

Excellent lunch buffet with a great assortment of choices. All tasty! Naan with every table price more than affordable. Dinner menu gives a wide variety of Indian dishes originally spiced in the cuisine of the country. Expect a difference in the flavors of the dinner dishes over the lunch buffet(more mild at lunch). Dinner is exquisite especially the lamb. Best Indian cuisine in Illinois!

1 star because there is nothing less than this. Worst possible place to eat. Rude owner and completely tasteless food. Better eat Maggie at home, Only thing that tasted as it should was water. Veggie buffet is no good. Stay at home or go to Flavors of India.

Below average to way below average vegetarian buffet. Rude and egoistic owner. Bad service. That’s the overall review. Now, let’s dive in details. It all started with our call to them enquiring about the buffet menu. We were in a group and trying to figure out which place to go for buffet. We unfortunately ended up going here, a big mistake. We reach there, got a table and started the journey to misery. I started with the mango ice cream. It was delicious. The potato tikki was ok, spring roll didn’t feel like it had any stuffing. The noodles were delicious, mini samosa was good. So an overall a pretty decent starter experience. Then I turned to main course. The saag chole was taste less, korma was way too diluted to have any taste, mutter paneer was feeling like they forgot to put any spices, salt in it. When we asked for refilling the naan and we had to wait for around 15 minutes and ask them 3 times before they sent out more naan, and that too half the quantity of the first time. So main course was disappointing. For dessert we tried gulabjamun, it was rubbery, and literally tasted like sugar juice. Gulab jamun has a taste, and one here didn’t taste anything like a gulab jamun. So to revive the taste I thought of having mango ice cream again to end with. The taste of ice ream changed with the change of tub. It was over sweet, too much mango pulp was used and was nearly inedible. A very bad food experience for lunch. The experience didn’t end here. Owner then came and asked us how we found food. We told him what we felt and he just went off without saying anything. Then after what we felt like he made his people taste the food, he came back and said dude I made everyone taste and no one found any issue with the food and if «5 of 100» people don’t like the food then he can’t help it and he isn’t bothered. He said that the one of the dishes is customized for American people and you won’t like it but with others there is no issue. We were shocked. We didn’t have a word to say to him after he said that. Then we waited for check for 15 more minutes and then when we asked they came and said we have to go and pay at counter. It felt like since we didn’t like the food they don’t care how they treat us any more and they aren’t bothered if we exist. It was pathetic and I have never experienced such a behavior with any restaurant ever.

We came here for a lunch buffet while traveling to Chicago, overall the food was Average and most of the dishes tasted the same. The food in buffet had chicken biriyani which was a bit soggy, dal fry which didn’t felt fresh while most of the other veg dishes lacked flavor. BUT everything related to chaat was actually nice like all the chutneys and chole which made me realize that this place would be better off serving delicious chaat recipes than actual be a full blown Indian restaurant which I think is their strength. Given that Springfield has very little to offer in terms of cuisine this place could be your place to fill up your stomach once a while.

I stopped here on my way from Chicago to KC. Everything at the lunch buffet was amazing! The Samosa chaat and Aloo Tikki were to die for and so was the Chana Saag. The Mutter Paneer was little low on flavor for me but would work perfectly for someone who doesn’t enjoy as much heat as me. The Chicken dishes were perfectly cooked and wonderfully flavorful. Please save some space for the Gulab Jamuns. They are heavenly. PS: The service was top-notch as well with the owners paying attention to each and every table.

My first Indian restaurant and have been coming here for 13 years. Always excellent for lunch and dinner. The Mango ice cream for dessert is very unique and delicious. Service is always very friendly and prompt. Highly underrated and hidden gem of Springfield.

Everything at the lunch buffet was absolutely delicious and very flavorful! I tried at least a little of almost every dish. Enjoying a blissful post-meal coma right now. I am wheat intolerant and was happy to find several items like sweet dumplings and savory pancakes that I could eat. There are plenty of vegetarian dishes as well as chicken and lamb options. The service was good and the restaurant was clean.

This is by far, the best Indian food I’ve ever had. It’s flavorful, authentic, and fairly priced. At least the buffet lunch is fairly priced. The dinners can get very pricey very quickly The Naan here is not bad at all. It can be a little burnt at times, but it goes really well with all the dishes I’ve had. The Chicken Tikki Masala is the best item on the menu. The atmosphere has excellent décor although the location as a whole feels dirty. The staff is excellent. Very kind and attentive. I’ve been here numerous times while in Springfield and you can bet I’ll be back next time through town.
