I want to like Gem. I just do not. I cannot be certain but I think they use the lunch buffet food for dinner service. Eww. The food was very salty, Service poorly organized and the floors were dirty. The prices were much more expensive than counterparts in the country. The Indian place down south is more viable.

This food is amazing! Server was very helpful. Whole place is clean and nice environment. Be very careful if you’re allergic to nuts/peanuts, it’s in almost every dish. None of the dishes are listed as having nuts in them on the menu. Its pretty dimmly lit, so we didn’t even see nuts in the dish. Food tasted so good!

I loved the garlic naan that was served here and it honesty was a highlight for the dish as a whole(I had the chicken tiki Marsala) the flavors were great of course and was a fine dining experience for the most part. I would go back specifically for the garlic naan.

I love Indian food and this was the very first place I was introduced to it. That being said their chicken tikka masala and nan holds a special place in my heart/stomach. Also I recently tried the chai tea and cardamom for a desert drink and it was great! They serve a dish a the beginning of the meal which consists of a type of cracker/wafer(not sure of the exact name) with 3 different flavored chutney sauces, I personally don’t love it but it is a personal pallet issue, I know a lot of people who do love it. My reasoning behind the 4 stars and not 5 is because their buffet just isn’t open often enough and it is the cheapest way to eat there. The flavors make it worth it though, check them out!

Do NOT eat here. We came in ordered a plate of chicken pakoda(chicken coated in a spicy batter and deep fried) for to go. We got the order after 30 minutes of wait with no customer around. When we reached home and opened the box, we saw they had served tandoori chicken, probably a left over from the Lunch buffet. The taste was may be a 2 out of 5. And oh as I was waiting, about 20 minutes past their opening time they were still setting tables and vacuuming the floors! I can imagine how the service is going to be. Am I going to return, you bet no!

Great buffet… their chicken tikka mesala is great for anyone whom has not had an experience with Indian food. Server friendly. and the Curry chicken was great!!! Cannot beat the buffet price of $ 9.99

The food was good but not to the level I’ve come to expect from Indian restaurants. The service was good but not over the top. The price is too high. For 3 of us to eat was nearly 70 bucks. We ordered 3 different meals and our naan came lumped together in 1 basket. We were specifically asked if we wanted ice in our water but we never got it. The waitress put 1 dish of rice in front of us which was enough for 1 ½ meal. Seemed a bit«put out» when we wanted more. Probably won’t return.

They have really stepped up their game! New seating arrangement, and an actual person who fills your water glass! More on the buffet, and the prices are back down to $ 9.99. I also like that they have really spiced up the dishes. In no way have they been dumbed down to the locals pallet. While the dishes aren’t fire hot; as a person who like spicy food I give it a 3 out of 5 on heat! So if you don’t like ANY heat don’t stop in. I on the other hand love that they are making it more«ethnic.» Seems there is a bit of a back, and forth rivalry between them, and the other place. I’ve personally always been a bigger fan of Gem of India. It’s cheaper for now, and definitely not as cramped. In fact today I think there were only 3 other group’s. If you haven’t been in there for awhile. Go give them another shot; I think you will be surprised!

We normally order from the menu. Tonight we discovered they have a buffet on Monday evenings. Next time I will hold out for the menu.

Best Indian in Springfield. The place could use sprucing but the food is worth it! It doesn’t get better than their lunch Buffett.

Used to be the best and then they got greedy and now we’ll never go back again. We have told soo many people about this place also but no more. It’s a shame

The food is always good, but, the past couple of times that I’ve been in there, the service was horrible. Why does it take 30 minutes to get a chai? my food came out before my chai came out, so they kept trying to push water on me. not sure I’ll be back for a while.

I can’t believe I have yet to write a review of Gem. Where do I start? Gem of India is the measuring stick for all other Indian restaurants in my opinion. I have never had something I didn’t love. The naan is magic, the samosas and pakoras perfectly cooked, the paneer tikka masala one of my most frequent cravings, AND the Chai is perfectly sweetened. Yes — I am saying the food is fantastic. Even better? The Singh family is wonderful — they are always polite and courteous when we visit. The service is just the right level of attentive without being pushy. They remember their frequent guests and welcome them back. If you arent familiar with Indian food please try Gem when they have buffet. It’s the best in town… I promise you will fall in love too! This place gets all the stars.

Once upon a time, I lived in Springfield. When I did, Gem of India did not exist, nor had I ever eaten Indian food. I now live in St. Louis, where the Indian restaurants are plentiful. I was back in town a few weeks ago, and this place was recommended to me. I don’t eat Indian food unless it’s buffet, because it’s simply too hard to pick just one dish to eat. My sister and I called ahead and they had lunch buffet for $ 8.99, which is very reasonable. When we walked in, the place seriously smelled so good, I felt a little light headed. I knew this food was going to be good. My usual course of action is to get a little basmati rice and then just put a spoonful of everything on my plate. I am terrible at remembering names of dishes, except for a few typical ones. They had tikka masala, korma(my favorite), the paneer with spinach, several garbanzo bean dishes, and one curry. All of it was so good, and I had to get a second plate even though I already felt full. Many Indian places are vegetarian or vegan; this one did include some chicken, but that’s it, much to my sister’s delight, as she only eats chicken and fish. This place is a must stop if you are in Springfield and craving some extremely flavorful food. My only complaint was that they were not on top of water refills, and that is a must when eating such spice-heavy food.

Very friendly folks. I highly recommend the sampler platter for two. It was a great deal and had great ambiance for a date. I can’t wait to go back again. I’m also very interested in their advertised cooking classes. Springfield needs more unique food like this!

I have traveled all over the US and always seek out chicken or paneer tikka masala wherever I go. Gem of India is the BEST. There’s no competition. Nothing made me more sad to move away from Springfield, MO than leaving Gem behind. Now in Portland, OR, I’ve been to 25 different Indian restaurants here and none of them hold a candle to my dearly missed Gem of India. When I travel home my family and friends know that they can find me there. Don’t ever change, Gem. Unless that change involves moving to Oregon, then by all means… The service is also amazing — the staff has put up with me eating alone or dragging a group of 15 in with absolutely no notice late at night(sorry for that…) and they’ve been nothing but gracious. The buffet is stocked plentifully even at the last moments of serving time. The presentation at dinner is classy, and the special events like Diwali are super fun. I really miss my Gem!

Never again Gem of India. Nope, won’t ever go back. Didn’t get the right food. And a couple of us in the party got double charged because the waitress couldn’t keep things strait. This was for a party of 12 people. As far as didn’t get the right food, I ordered: 67. Royal Combination Grill –Medium Spice Combination of Tandoori Chicken Tikka, Fish Tikka, and Seekh Kabab, served with rice and nan bread. My date ordered Ordered: 61. Mixed Grill –Mild Spice A delicious mix of Chicken Tandoori, Chicken Tikka, Sheesh Kebab, Tandoori Shrimp, peppers, & onions We got exactly the same thing. I had shrimp in my dish, tandoori chicken along with peppers and onions.(No mention of peppers and onions on the menu) and mine was definitely not medium spice. She got some chicken tikka and fish tikka in hers. Ask anyone at the table, there was no difference in what we got. Quality/taste of the food was ok, not great, not bad, just ok. And i really didn’t get what I ordered. Double charged– The waitress/hostess forgot to split the bread among all of the tickets, so I said I’d pay for it. After everyone had paid, they claimed there were some items still unpaid by our party. One of them, the bread I had already paid for. Rather than make a scene because it was a good friend’s birthday, I went ahead an paid for it again. Someone else also had to pay a second time for her appetizer. The bad thing, noone got itemized receipts, just a dollar amount. Buyer beware. I’ll never go back again.

This place is a gem! I’m probably middle of the road for liking Indian food and this was probably pretty Americanized — so it was just fine. We went for dinner and the buffet was the way to go. I“m usually not a fan of buffets, but the kitchen kept it fresher than I expected.

Expensive. I wanted to find a buffet as it is usually a bit more affordable than ordering a meal at an Indian place but I was a bit shocked that the total for the Buffett and a drink was $ 14.00. The food was good, the Buffett was clean, everything was well marked and described. Food was fresh and good. They also had a very good selection of foods. The staff was nice but they didn’t check on us for more drinks. Probably I could skip the place and try another.

I love Indian food, and I would have a hard time living in Springfield if it weren’t for Gem of India. I love this place and am soooo thankful that they are in town. It’s a bit pricey for one person, but there’s always enough to save for lunch the next day, so I justify it by telling myself that I’m really buying two meals. Here are my favorites: Favorite entrees: lamb saag or lamb korma with plain naan to dip in it Favorite appetizer: pakoras Favorite drink: plain sweet lassi
