I lived in Ridley for two years before I learned that there was a Jim’s less than 10 minutes away from my house. This has had a dastardly affect on my wallet! The Springfield Jim’s is just as good as the one on South Street — minus the crowds and atmosphere. Now, some would argue that the crowds and atmosphere are part of Jim’s charm, and I won’t disagree — that’s why I docked them a star. But, hey, if you’re looking for a great cheesesteak in southern Delco, Jim’s is still a great choice!

Big mistake stopping here 10pm on a Friday. A few others in the shop. The dirty tables should of been enough hint for me to leave but I was hungry. Ordered a cheesesteak with onion an provolone. Order was ready right away and asked if I wanted anything on it. I said no. They asked not even salt and pepper. I said sure. They must of dumped the entire shaker of pepper on my sandwich. It was almost inedible. Onions were stringy, and one of the worst cheesesteaks I’ve ever eaten. Total rip off

I do love this place. My favorite thing to get is their buffalo chicken cheese steak with a side of onion rings. Both are awesome. Be sure to speak clearly to the cook and make sure they know and understand what it is you want and how you want it. Not all cooks there are great, there are 2 that never mess up my order, but for the ones who do I watch them like a hawk and make sure they know exactly how I want my food. Oh and if you ever get a cheese steak, best way to order it is with the«3 cheeses» it’s life changing.

The people are nice, and the steaks are generally good, if they don’t overcook them.

I went to the South Street location before the Springfield one, so it’s kind of natural to compare the two. Here you don’t have a line meandering out the door and celebrity pictures all over the walls. What you do have is more room to eat and very friendly service – at least this was my experience today. I ordered a cheesesteak, fries, and a soda, all of which were A-OK, 3 stars. If you want more of a touristy Philly ambiance, go to the one on South Street. If you want an average cheesesteak joint in the burbs, go here.

Wasn’t impressed. Had a cheesesteak with fried onions and mushrooms the onions were piled on top, nothing was mixed together. Waaayyyy too many onions and the meat was chewy. Fries had no salt or taste and were mushy. The people were very friendly and their business hours on Unilocal are wrong, which I tried to correct. They are open until 3am on Friday and Saturday night and Sunday they are open too. Not sure if I’m just spoiled having real cheesesteaks downtown or not but I will not get one from here again.

Steak is very good. Place is noisy, but friendly. I had steak with cheese and onion plus fries and shake. The fries are just average, frozen not fresh cut. The cheesesteak is very good. The shake is good but expensive.

We love Jim’s on South Street, and we love this place as well. Great bread, great meat — all very fresh. Friendly staff and the line moves relatively fast(and is not normally as long as the South Street location). Custom orders are welcome. Decent amount of seating inside.

One of my favorite late night weekend spots. As long as my boy is cooking, the steaks are spot on and delicious. Whiz and american without please!

Wow, what a great place. The cheesesteaks were not as good as say Jim’s steaks on south street, but who can compare to that? What makes me give this place a five star rating is their impeccable service. Their super friendly and inviting staff made the rather mundane task of grabbing a cheesesteak to go into a truly delightful experience. We even bought a shirt for my husbands dad whose name is Jim and she was super helpful letting us take the shirts out of the bag and size them up. We will definitely return!

The staff can be rude but they aren’t interested in being your friend. Cheesesteaks are phenomenal(as expected). In and out and full. Mission complete.

Steaks were good. Staff was disorganized. Had to repeat our orders several times. Kim’s steaks are generally greasy. They use a fatty sirloin. I like the roll. Good roll proportion to meat. Nice and light on the cheese wiz. The onions were fresh. Wish they grilled the hot peppers with the steaks. This place is not as good and the South street location. They do have Stewarts root beer and the service was fast.

Pretty good cheesesteaks, especially if you can’t make a special trip into the city. We ordered 3 cheesesteaks, 2 «here» and 1 «to-go». They came out quick. This was my first visit to this location. I was a little hesitant with the negative reviews, but my cheesesteak craving was definitely satisfied!

After having chicken cheesesteaks from here on a few occasions, I feel comfortable recommending this location. The chicken breast is chopped up, but not as finely as the beef version. With the kind of chicken breast they use, I can understand why. The steaks are good and the bread has been fresh every time. If you plan on doing take out, I recommend calling ahead first, especially if you know exactly what you want. The wait time can be pretty long on a busy weekend night.

If you’re out in the«burbs» of Philly and you’re fiending for the cheesesteak from Jim’s on South Street this is your next best bet! Same owners, same checkered black and white store front, just not the authentic original restaurant! Cheesesteaks are just as good(almost) and this place even offers fries and onion rings, something the original doesn’t offer!

I give Jim’s 4-stars based on the cheese steaks alone. They’re really quite good and I don’t taste any noticeable difference between the steaks here in Springfield and the ones on South Street. I also enjoy the added bonus of watching your steak being cooked right there in front of you by a skilled griddle technician. As good as their steaks turn out, I wish the same could be said for their fries. More often than not, the fries turn out underdone and soggy. They’re really pretty tasty, but if they aren’t done right, it kinda kills their appeal. If they could ever figure out a way to do them consistently right, I’d give Jim’s 5-stars.

My boyfriend is from Long Island but spend his college years at U of D. When he would go into Philly, he was introduced to Jim’s Steaks which he swears are the best. During the Labor Day weekend, we were going to a party in Chinatown and he wanted to swing by Jim’s on South Street afterwards. Being super filled after the party we scrapped that plan. For a compromise I took him to the Delco outpost of Jim’s Steaks hoping that it would satisfy his need. The food itself was delicious. How could meat with wiz and fried onions be anything but? I also went for the black and white shake which was perfect. My arteries didn’t feel that great but its not everyday. The cleanliness of the restaurant could have been a little better but its a cheesesteak joint; I feel that they all have to have a little grime on them to be good.

Really, we all know this place will never be like the original, or like the South Street location. Don’t even bother trying to compare. But, last time I decided to give them a try for the heck of it, they made a pretty decent chicken cheesesteak with real chicken chunks, and lots of them. I was satisfied. Just don’t expect much. It’s a pretty good cheesesteak. It won’t change your life.

I’m not sure why everyone hates this location… yeah, it’s not the original and you don’t get the overall ambiance but it’s still a good cheesesteak! Yes, they don’t use as much meat as they do at the South Street location but I still think it’s delicious. It is a random location in a strip mall but it’s good cause it’s close to my house! The staff is ok, give or take. Basically, a cheap version of an AMAZING spot on South Street… I’ll take it!
