Kai is my go to restaurant when it comes to sushi and seafood. The service is great and the environment is always fun! I highly recommend the risotto and salmon teriyaki, but have loved everything. They also have early bird and late night specials, there’s always a variety to pick from.

If only people knew the differences of store frozen fish vs the actual whole fish they get thru the planes. Ive got to see it with my own eyes how their fish is being delivered. Nonetheless the freshest non store frozen sushi they have. Plus their atmosphere is a top notch.

Have been here twice now and is hands down the best sushi in town. My friend got the Chilian Sea bass the first time he was here and it was so good that he got it again the second time we went here. Great seafood, not just sushi too. You need to try this place if you like seafood and/or sushi.

The atmosphere here was amazing! It’s like a night club for sushi! Wednesday is college night, half price smaller portions after 9pm is great if you’re looking for a lighter late night dinner and beverage. All of their sushi is amazing and they have a whole menu of other Japanese cuisine that is just as good.

Sushi was sub par at best. We were only ones there and now I know why. Service was excellent but food was sadly lacking. Thank goodness for the excellent company I had or it would have been a complete waste!

I’ve gotta say I wish I liked this place. I wish I liked it so much that I have gone back time and time again to have a better experience, but every time it was been terrible. The hostesses are rude as all get out. I’d dropped in once to meet a friend last minute and I wasn’t exactly dressed for Kai and at first I thought maybe that was why I got dirty looks and rude service when I came in, but turns out they just aren’t nice ladies working there or if they are they have never treated me the way a customer should be treated. No wait staff is different. They are great as far as personality goes, they simply lack in serving skills. Whatever, I’ll take the niceness and an empty cup of water than someone being a jerk and always making sure I have a full glass. Now the food. I hate it. That’s a nice word here. I expected so much from this place only to be highly disappointed in everything I have tried. I am a big sushi lover. And when I say sushi I mean all types. I like the Americanized fried rolls drenched in sweet sauces just as much as I want someone to slap a hunk of delicious white or fatty tuna on my plate and call it a day. This place doesn’t have a single sushi roll I would recommend which is pathetic and sad. If you like eating good food, don’t come here. If you want good sushi, go somewhere like Umi. The staff is wonderful and the food will not disappoint.

If you love amazing sushi, this a great date night location. The tuna dynamite is one of the best things I have ever eaten. Call ahead and reserve a booth upstairs. It can get very busy on weekends. Atmosphere is very upscale metro. Have never been disappointed with this choice!

What a wonderful place to relax and have a great meal. The sushi rolls are some of the best I’ve ever had! Friendly service staff but a little off in their timing of drinks and food orders. The atmosphere is relaxing after a long day. Love this place and we will be back again.

We had a great time at my daughters birthday with 15 people! Great service with so many people! The food was expertly prepared and served beautifully. The bartender was amazing! I always have trouble with poorly mixed drinks but not here!

Walked in with my mother, sister and niece. Here’s the thing, I understand that we had no reservation… but the restaurant was empty and never filled up during our stay. We were seated by the window(where we were for all intents and purposes hidden from sight) at a large table that wobbled and with very little room between the backs of our seats and the wall. It took our waitress 13 minutes(yes, we DID time her) to even greet us, and throughout our meal the attention was next to none. The teriyaki chicken my sister ordered tasted like something out of a frozen dinner –too sweet and salty and yet bland at the same time. While my salmon nigiri was fine the yellowtail was flavorless. My family does not have a lot of disposable income… but I DO. I wanted to treat my family to something nice while they were in town and we were out for a movie. Instead my family was judged by their clothing to be poor tippers and all but completely ignored by the waitstaff. This is honestly what appeared to be the issue because that’s how unwelcoming the atmosphere was. I left a more than generous tip for the lackluster food and godawful service –my mother raised me to tip well. Maybe next time they won’t judge based on appearances. Kai looked like a unique and upscale restaurant from the outside, so I won’t make that mistake either.

Beware if you come on Wednesday for college night: the rolls on special are deep fried, as in the entire roll dropped in the fryer(presumably in order to use the fish that is no longer fresh enough to serve raw) — don’t wear anything that needs to be dry cleaned because the whole place reeks of fryer smell. Having said that, it is a fun cheap place to meet friends. The food is fine — as expected for sushi so far from a coast. The atmosphere is fun and there’s a big bar to hang out at when there’s a wait.

I love the food, but the wait staff can be quite uppity to college students. Their fried sushi is amazing and the only reason I keep coming back. The Yummy roll is my favorite.

Over priced, not good. Atmosphere is clean but outdated and a bit 90’s «hey we bought a crap tone of Neon». With the caliber of Sushi Springfield has and Downtown has specifically, Kia misses the mark like a drunk frat boy trying to pee in a urinal. Service is always good. Ive been to Kia about 5 times. This is mostly due to groups going and me wanting to hang out with my friends, not wanting to kill the party by saying«holy crap i hate this place and I have a mortgage to pay, so ill get the water». Each time ive gone in a group our waiter or waitress has been stellar. Spot on with the«can i get you a refil, and ill laugh at your joke» vibe. I have been in groups of 10 – 15 and no one has ever received the wrong order. Ive worked as a waiter and can say this is not an easy feat. Well done Kia staff! sorry you work there. Just a note, ive never gone off the sushi menu but have noted the prices are steep for food that can be ordered at many other places DWTNSGF.

After hearing everyone talk about Kai, I finally found myself at Kai. Wow what a disappointment. I guess it’s the atmosphere that everyone talks about, which is great. As for the calamari appetizer, no flavor and essentially they were greasy fried rings of batter F. Pork pot-stickers they were okay, but nothing to brag about C. We ordered OMG, TNT, a vegi roll and Jurassic Park… Grade C, B-, C-, C+ in that order. They all tasted the same and I think some of the product in the rolls was old, you never want your sushi smelling like a dead fish. Safe to say I will not be back. I had hoped for a wonderful meal, but left let down and craving better sushi.

This is the only sushi joint I tried while visiting Springfield for work. I was impressed by the décor; it felt like an upscale, Vegas style club. Lots of rich tones, heavy fabric, and beaded curtains. It looks like a really cool place to hang out, or one of the few options in the area. My co-worker and I dined here for lunch. We had a few sushi rolls that tasted great. We didn’t have any of the traditional sashimi, nigiri, or rolls. They have pretty fancy dishes and sushi on their menu and the prices are comparable to what I’d see at restaurants in Seattle. The major downside of my meal was the miso butterfish. The fish tasted old and had a weird flavor. I won’t order the miso butterfish, but if I’m back in Springfield, I’ll dine here again.
