Soon after moving in to our new two unit town home/condo in DC, we discovered that our builder had erroneously installed both sets of French doors; frames were warped, doors misaligned, parts stripped, etc. As a result, the doors did not seal and often could not be locked. The builder, though, initially insisted that no «repairs» were needed as the problems were simply related to the humidity and were«normal». We then arranged for KC Pella to assess the situation. Richie, the Installation Field Supervisor, did a thorough assessment and provided a detailed recommendation for remediation of the problems. Although the builder initially refuted the findings, Richie refused to compromise his integrity, and stood by his recommendations. He even agreed to meet with the builder’s architect and engineer to review the issues. Richie’s assessment proved to be accurate. He and his crew had to tear out and replace in entirety one set of French doors/frame/trim, and replace most of the parts on the other set of French doors. This was a complex job which took an entire day. Richie’s honesty was also evident when he pointed out that adjusting the alignment pin on the 2nd set of French doors was not going to resolve one of the problems(as originally thought).and he would instead order a new part and return to do that installation. Richie is the best. Very professional. Extensive experience. And honest!

After move-in in October 2011 we decided to do a whole house replacement of windows and doors. We decided on Pella because of the options available. We were initially shocked at the price but after witnessing the install process it was a little more clear where the money goes! We have had KC replace 2/3rds of our windows/doors at this point and are very pleased. There were some rotted joists around a few of our sliding glass doors onto the deck that had improper flashing, this did incur an extra cost — about $ 600 per door but I’d rather pay that and have it done right — actually they wouldn’t install the doors without fixing it which says something about their standards of quality. I was also happy that this ‘glitch’ did not delay the install, they were still able to get it all done in the two days they were scheduled to complete the job. We plan to have them back in a few months for the remaining windows and doors and have no reason to consider anyone else.
