Peter K Cocolis Jr, DMD

My family and I have been seeing Peter Cocolis for over 16 years and couldn’t be happier. Peter and his staff are not only professional and courteous, but they also employ the very latest in technology available in dentistry. When I first met Dr. C, we lived around the corner from his office in Burke/​Springfield. A couple years later, we moved to the western part of the county near Dulles, but still make the drive to Burke, because I cannot imaging trusting anyone else with our dental needs. His beside manner is superb — he is so easy and fun to talk to, and puts you at ease from the very start. I am most impressed with how he works with our two young children — he talks to them, explains what he’s doing, and makes a dentist visit actually fun for them, if you can imagine! For a short time I took them to a pediatric dentist closer to home, but after one visit I knew it was worth it to drive 30 minutes to see Dr. Cocolis in stead. Over the years, he has cared for my husband’s (nearly perfect) teeth, as well my (very far from perfect) teeth. The emergency number for his office is a cell phone that the doctor answers himself — who else does that? Highly recommended, by a patient who has had root canals, Invisalign and everything in between with Dr. Cocolis. He is the absolute best in the business!

Dr. Cocolis and his staff are top notch. My entire family has been going to see Dr. Cocolis for about 8 years and we have all had great treatment throughout the years. My older son used to have an extreme gag reflex and we struggled at another pediatric dentist office every time we went. We changed to Dr. Cocolis and they helped him manage it so that now his trips to the dentist are no longer fearful. The office staff are very caring and make you feel special to be there.

Very professional and considerate staff, they are all sweet and tell you everything that’s going on. I would highly recommend this place.

If you need a dentist go to Dr. Cocolis! They are very professional and do an excellent job. Not only that, everyone is very friendly and treats me so well. I can’t say enough good things about them.

This is one of the best dental office in Northern VA. I have been to several bad ones. Dr. Cocolis is extremely knowledgeable, uses the most up-​to-​date technology and really is far superior to other dentists. I will not go anywhere else.

I have NEVER had to wait in the waiting room for more than 2 minutes beyond my appointed time. This office runs like a finely tuned Swiss watch. Everyone who works there is super nice and caring. (And I love the 80s music that is always playing!)

I went here for a routine exam and cleaning. I was informed by the dental hygienist that as part of the exam, they would check the depth of pockets between the teeth and gums.
The hygienist lightly stabbed me in the gums (or at least, that’s what it felt like) on the upper-​right part of my mouth using a sharp instrument. I told her that what she did hurt. She asked if it was discomfort or pain, and I told her it was painful. I allowed her to proceed with the exam and she again stabbed me in the gums, this time more painfully.
I told her that she can’t proceed with the exam if she is going to cause this amount of pain. She informed me that she has to do this as part of the exam. I told her that she needs to skip this part of the exam if it’s going to hurt this much. She told me she would get the dentist and ask him what to do.
The dentist (Dr. Cocolis) came in and got right in my face and rudely asked me «what can I do for you today?» I politely asked him not to stab me in the gums. He again, and this time more rudely, asked me «what can I do for you today?» I told him that I don’t understand the question. He asked me «why are you here?» I informed him that I’m here for a routine exam and cleaning.
He then, rudely, explained that as part of the exam, they have to check for gingivitis by checking the pocket depth of the gums. He started over the exam from the beginning and roughly jabbed instruments into my mouth and painfully pulled my lips apart. He rushed very quickly through the exam and at one point accidentally poked me in the nose with a dental explorer.
He then said he was starting the pocket depth exam. I asked him if he can do it without stabbing me in the gums. He said he would try but that the exam is necessary and can be painful. I allowed him to proceed.
He then stabbed me in the gums (or that’s what it felt like he did) so hard that I almost jumped out of the chair. I pushed his hands out of my mouth and told him to stop, and I then told him that there’s a certain level of pain I’m willing to tolerate, but if he can’t perform the exam without exceeding this pain level, then I’ll find a new dentist. He then rudely told me to leave.
I’ve had the pocket depth exam performed many times at previous dentists, and sometimes it hurts a little but I’ve never experienced this amount of pain during any dental exam, EVER.
I see a dentist every 6 months, my teeth and gums are in good health, and there’s no reason it should have hurt at all, let alone this much.
Once I informed him that the procedure was causing me pain, Dr. Cocolis did nothing to try to accommodate me or ease the pain. In fact, the third time he tried to do the exam hurt much worse than the first two times. As I type this review (almost 2 hours later), my gums are aching with pain, red, and swollen.
Dr. Cocolis, from the start, was unnecessarily rude, aggressive, and confrontational. His behavior was very unprofessional.

I completely agree with allot of what was said in Dr. C’s strong reviews. Their presentation, cleanliness and friendliness is very impressive. I have referred a lot of people their way in the past. My biggest issue and reason for a low rating is trust. I have traveled a lot and have had to use many different dentists. My first cavity was found and filled when I was 23 on my first visit to Dr. C. I didn’t question it at all. Over the next 3 years at least 4 more cavities were found in his office. I began to question why there was such a dramatic change in the health of my teeth. I had been maintaining my teeth the same as I had for the first 23 years of my life yet now a filling was almost a expectation I had to have for every visit. Suspision was at a peak last year during my final visit to Dr. C’s office when yet again I was told I had a cavity. A week later I went to get a second opinion at a new office. They could not find anything even when I pointed to the spot where I was told there was a cavity. I did not tell them of my suspicion. I have gone to the new dentist 2 times and have been cavity free «knock on wood». I really enjoyed Dr. C’s office. Everyone was so friendly which makes it harder for me to write this review. I may be paranoid and wrong but I can’t help wondering if I was scammed and pitched unnecessary filings for extra cash. I hope I’m wrong but none the less my trust has been withdrawn.

Dr. Cocolis pulled four teeth on our 8 year old daughter. He was incredibly patient and didn’t rush us through the appointment. He explained everything to our daughter and answered all of her questions. He answered all of our questions too! He was efficient, and handled our daughter’s concerns amazingly well. His staff was remarkably friendly too. I would absolultely recommend him for grown ups and children alike.

My visit was very unsatisfactory. I was intimated and bullied to accept a procedure that I did not want. I wish I could give it a minus star.

Ever love your dentist? No? Then you have to give Dr. C and his team a chance. They’ll change your mind. The service is amazing, the professionalism TOPS. From routine cleanings which result in the whitest smile I have had in years to a recent (minor) surgical procedure, I have been impressed every time. You owe it to yourself and anyone you care about. And no, I am not affiliated with the practice in any way. But I refer my friends, take my family and go myself.

What an amazing experience. Not only is Dr. C the best I’ve ever seen but his staff is hands down the best at what they do. I have been through alot of dental work over the years and Dr. Cocolis always gives his expert advice on what to tackle next. The hygenist are amazing they actually go the extra mile to do the best possible job. My teeth have never been so clean as when I leave.
