Springfield Bus Terminal

Fairly clean, places to sit, bathrooms are usable, and you can get coffee. Plus while you’re waiting you can either 1) watch tv 2) look at a little outdoor courtyard through the window 3) check the arrivals/​departures board. This place is soooo much better than Port Authority.

This place is ridiculously nasty.
In the female bathroom, there are four soap dispensers. Two don’t work and the two that do work, didn’t have any soap in them. Like euwww. I’m assuming most of the nasty a** people who come through here, don’t care, but I would at least appreciate the option of being hygienic.
The passengers are your standard bus takers: students, international travelers with huge backpacks, and then those that are flat broke. Some that are flat broke fall under the category of nice, hygienic, but broke. Others, were mangy, I heard a lot of loud swearing and bad parenting. Basically, not the kind of place I would choose to hang out in.

I gotta agree with the other reviewers… this bus terminal looks like it hasn’t been updated… or even cleaned since 1978. But I dare you to find any bus depot anywhere that looks much better.
(seriously, I had an hour layover at the Philadelphia bus terminal a few years ago and a sleeping homeless man sitting next to me choked on his tongue… and no one reacted)
Look, if you’re going to take the bus anywhere around here… you’re probably going to have to go through Springfield. So just breathe through your mouth, don’t make eye contact with anyone and only use the restroom if its an absolute necessity.

I really don’t like this bus terminal, and with good reason, but sadly I usually have no choice but to stop here to catch a connecting bus en route to New York City, or more frequently, Boston.
The building itself is dirty, inside and out (if I have a short layover time, I try to avoid even going inside if possible). The employees are irritable and downright rude. The last time I was here was just about a week ago, and I saw one such employee yelling at an elderly traveler for inquiring about a bus that was almost an hour late. Security is always present, but somehow they never make me feel very safe, as they are usually just chatting or not really paying attention.
Bottom line — if I had any other choice, I would never go through here again.

A giant lightning bolt should come down from the heavens and rid the world of this cesspool.
This bus station is on the top ten list of worst places in new england to be. Ever. Period.
If the confusing bus terminals, and lack of necessary transfer information, and the employees who are totally clueless and unwilling to help aren’t enough…

A CRAP TON of loitering.
There were teenagers EVERYWHERE. In the bus terminals, in front of the building, inside the building… just hanging out. Some of them had babies, some did not. Some of them passed by and handed each other things and left (use your imagination)…
Where was the Security, you ask?
Walking right by them. Sometimes shooting the shit with them… they all seemed to be buddy-​buddy.
The facility was nasty, unkempt, smelly, but unfortunately, it is a major bus connection for Greyhound and Peter Pan… so if you want to get North on a bus… you will be forced into a layover at this dump.

Ah the Springfield Bus Terminal. You’re an interesting place.
There’s only one bus company (Peter Pan, a subsidiary of Greyhound), and only one desk. Yes, there are a few places, but there will usually be only one person selling tickets out front, and if they’re in the middle of something, it may take awhile.
There are three restaurants in the facility itself: Subway, McDonalds, and Dunkin Donuts. The Subway isn’t too bad, and seems to be better run than others I’ve encountered. The convenience store is standard, though it does close a little early.
There’s less control over lines here than at other stations (I’d assume that’s due to lower levels of staff than elsewhere, though at the same time, unless you’re going to NY or Boston on a peak day, you won’t have major lines).
Overall, it’s passable. It’s not great, but it’s not as bad as some of the larger bus stations (New York comes to mind, and to a lesser extent, Boston)
