The Springfield Falcons had the unenviable role of filling the shoes of the Springfield Indians, who had been playing professional minor league hockey for decades(and had, under Ernie Shore, been a powerhouse of the AHL). I will give the Falcons ownership credit for keeping minor league hockey in the city, and doing a decent job in making it work in a city that’s hurting. Has it been the greatest quality? Not necessarily. But, they do put on a show, which in some way is what minor league hockey is about. I got to watch some pee wee hockey kids get into a massive mid-rink scrum some years back. You can’t ever get that sort of comedy. But considering the prices to go out and see the various Boston-related sports establishments, the Falcons are a decent deal and good for the city. Now if they could get the Calder Cup back to Springfield, then it would be cool
