A very nice trail for walking, running or biking. The surface is very even and very firmly compacted. This is a former railroad bed, and as such the grades are very gradual and consistent. This feature makes it ideal for families with kids. There are multiple parking areas along the trail making it easier to ride the trail in shorter sections. The views are great. The bridge at Sheldon Junction is a highlight for sure. The trail does cross the main road from time to time. But with proper caution that should not worry anyone. If you go to the website you can get a trail map that shows where all of the parking areas are located. You can also make a donation to support the trail.

This is a really lovely trail going through scenic northern Vermont. It’s quite long, and we stopped just short(around 5 miles) of the entire length. It’s mostly crushed limestone and very appropriate for hybrid or mountain bikes. I’m not sure I would want to bring a road bike there, but a confident rider may do just fine. There’s beautiful views, quiet wooded areas and quaint towns along the way. I think this is my favoite path in Vermont.

Stumbled upon this little gem while planning a camping trip in VT last August. Great way to take in some breathtaking views of VT countryside. Well maintained, not too challenging in regards to elevation and fairly safe. A little challenging to find trailheads with out a map but easy to navigate once on the path. Be sure to stop for a maple cremee along your trek!

This is a nicely maintained rail trail, a great resource for all levels of bike riders. Not for the mountain bikers except to get a mild cardiovascular exercise. Surface is mostly a crush stone, better for fatter tires although I have seen some road bikes using it. No suspension is necessary on this ride. Trailhead begins just behind the Greek diner off Main Street, parking along the old rail right of way. I’ve not ridden further than Enosburg thus far. It terminates in Richford, VT. One interesting development is the eventual link-up of another, much longer rail trail known as the Lamoille Valle Rail Trail, which will travel East — West from Swanton to St. Johnsbury. Read about it at Because of a minor disability, I’m no longer a mountain biker but I can see building a nice rigid carbon bike and using the trail purely for good cardiovascular exercise.
