When I was interested in trying Carmelo’s, I did not look far enough into the reviews to catch that it was attached to a gas station. I was hungry, I scrolled through photos, and quickly typed the restaurant into the gps(we’ve all been there: simply trusting the 4 stars!) I’ll start with the positive: the food. Which is all that should matter, right? My husband had a pepperoni & cheese Stromboli which was huge and he absolutely loved it. I had the veggie hot sandwich and was not disappointed. The pesto was amazing. Also, the woman taking our order was very friendly. The negatives: the set-up threw me off. I was expecting to sit down with waiter service but we must have came in the wrong side or we simply didn’t know how to navigate to that side. Really not sure(someone please help! Lol!) We ordered our food at the counter & it was brought to us about 15 – 20 mins later… which I thought was a bit long for counter service. I would expect that if we had sat down but we didn’t. There was an open kitchen behind where we ate(a 4-table seating area by the counter) where a cook was yelling to his employees. Not yelling anything negative, just having an extremely loud conversation about weird conspiracy theories. Other workers later showed up and were fooling around in the kitchen right next to where we were eating. Very bizarre and uncomfortable. I really wish we were aware of the other side where we could have sat down. When we saw a sign that said Carmelo’s, we just assumed that that was where we were to go. Disappointed… but I won’t take off stars for the food.

We ordered a kosher pizza. To my surprise all the meat was mixed with pork. If someone wants pork it should be available. Likewise I wanted beef but got chicken. We opted for a veggie chicken pizza. We waited 25 minutes. The pizza was huge. Chicken tasted dull.

It’s OK… not great and not bad… Pizza is good but could be cooked longer… Subs are served on average bread and cold cuts are standard… Not exciting, not cheap and not easy to park.

Carmelo’s makes me wish I lived in St. Augustine. You cannot let the fact that Carmelo’s is located right next door to,(actually their take-out section is located inside) a gas station/convenience store prevent you from trying their pizza. I repeat. don’t let this fact dissuade you. You’ll live to regret it. We ordered take-out, a regular pepperoni with onion. It was fantastic. New York style, thinner, foldable crust. You could tell the crust was fresh-made, not frozen. It had a great crisp, slight burn to it from the wood-fired oven. The cheese was plentiful and you could tell is was high quality. The pepperoni and red onions made this already great pizza delectable. We ordered a regular size, which was about perfect for the two of us, but they also have a large, and their grande, which is a super-sized 20-inch pizza. I’ve not encountered many places that sell a pizza this large. It will impress your friends and family. In the take-out section they have a variety of pizzas available, as well as pizza by the slice. I wanted to try them all. If you’re visiting St. Aug’s and are looking for high quality pizza, give them a try. If I lived closer, I’d be eating here or ordering from here way too much. It was that good.

Oh my goodness! Absolutely the best pizza in St. Augustine. We walked right in, sat down and had delicious food within 15 minutes. Don’t miss this one because the convenience store is next door-it’s a local secret.

Awesome fresh pizza that any New Yorker would be proud of. I had the meat supreme and Hawaiiian and both were excellent. I also enjoyed a military discount and the young lady with cool tattoos that took my order was stunningly beautiful

I was afraid to try this place once I realized it was inside a gas station. I am glad that the hungry children insisted on eating there anyway. The pizzas were huge and delicious. Cheesy and crispy crust. perfect pizza. I would definitely return if in the area.

My boy friend and I eat their pizza all the time. The veggie is our favorite but pretty much every kind looks incredible. It seems that sometimes it’s more moist as left overs which I don’t mind. My boyfriend hates it though so if you aren’t a fan of softer pizza make sure you only get enough to eat it all fresh

Absolute quality. Amazing product with fresh ingredients. Real home town feel. The staff were friendly and attentive and the beer selection is awesome. Especially for the area. I would go back again and again. And probably will. Best pizza in st aug.

1st: No good service, not welcome place, the pizzas resting there until ui show up, pick the one that you want and they put in the oven. Well, for me, Costumer service is everything, you can’t offer that in a business like that, best thing to do is look for employees who cares about their potential future on going costumers.

I heard about Carmelo’s from an old friend that told me it was a staple. It all started with a small station and they have expanded and grew to the building they are in now. An old couple that came from Sicily and did what they knew best. Cooked Italian food and pies. Today I went for their toasted Italian sub. My go to in any pizza joint. It is an easy sandwich if it is done right. If I don’t know what to get anywhere my eyes always go to the sub section of the menu. The young lady behind the bar asked me how I wanted it and if I wanted it with a pesto and toasted. Toasted always where I can get it that way. My sandwich came out and it was kind of small to me. It was toasted but the pesto was just off pudding to me. It just didn’t taste right maybe they made it with olives I think. In all not a bad sandwich but there are better places that I have found here in St. Aug.

With such good reviews I had high hopes. While the service was good the pizza was pretty bad(I’ve had frozen pizzas that tasted better). I guess it being connected to a gas station is not a coincidence since it tastes like a pizza from a gas station. Don’t bother with getting toppings on the slices since all they do is throw the toppings on the already cooked base pizza.

Best pizza I’ve ever had — bar none! The pepperoni pizza and the Carmelo’s stuffed pizza were fabulous! My wife had the Hawaiian pizza and was delighted. We are definitively coming back when in town. Salúd!

1st and foremost, do not let the fact that it’s connected to a gas station throw you off. Surprisingly, 2 of my favorite Italian spots now on our road trips have been connected to a corner store. Great selection of both wine and craft and domestic beers(draft and bottle). Brooklyn(owners daughter) was our waitress and did amazing with great recommendations for our table of 8. We ordered a variety of fried mushrooms, jalapeño poppers, pizza, and calzones. Sizes(especially calzones) are huge. Me and the fiancé split ours and still had leftovers! Definitely recommend!

Small pizzeria shared with a gas station in downtown St Augustine, FL. Nice on the inside, decore, etc. the menu boosts a variety of decent items to try. Deli sandwiches, hot sandwiches, paninis, appetizers(fried schrooms, garlic knots, fried ravioli), chicken wings, salads, stuffed pizza, and last but not least… NY brick oven pizza. Pizza was decent. Comes in three sizes…12″ 16″ 20″. Fresh toppings, nice crust, fresh mozzarella, etc. The sausage was particularly good. Very large slices. The slices so large almost a necessity to use a fork(which is taboo!). Could of used a few more minutes in the brick oven but overall a decent NY pie. Open seven days a week, catering menu, carry out, and offer pizza by the slice(for those opting out of ordering an entire pie). Would re visit this pizzeria again.

Best. Calzone. Ever. Seriously. You have to come here early on weekdays, if you come during the lunch rush, you will wait in line. The pizza and calzones take a long time– be prepared to wait. But it is worth every second of waiting time. Get extra sauce for the calzone because it is delicious!

Wow, what a gem. Quite honestly the greatest, cleanest gas station you ever find, and tucked in the corner, one of the best pizzas you’re going to find at the Saint Augustine area. Locally owned, locally managed. Sure parking is not great, but once you get inside, your understand why you came.

Being a pizza parlor owner myself I tend to be a little partial but this is some darn good pizza! I had a calzone and it was HUGE. Their garlic knots are to die for. I do wish they had more garlic on them though.(I like to taste my garlic but that’s just me.) There’s nothing fancy here but if you’re looking for some good ol’ fashioned pizza this place is it. Great job guys!
