Yes, this is a bridge review… not just any bridge but one of the most travelled bridges in the town of St. Helena in the Napa Valley and not to mention the most stressful bridges I have driven through(barely). Built in 1894 this historical land mind… I mean land mark was definitely not built with the future in mind. I know they will probably never do away with this bridge however they should really think about building one next to it big enough for 2 way traffic or so this has been every St. Helena native’s plea since I can remember. It really takes some skills to drive through without scraping the sides of your car and if you drive a full size car or truck… yeah good luck you have to wait on the side until all smaller traffic drives through. I can’t tell you growing up here how many fender benders this bridge has tallied. There are other ways to get to the Silverado trail(the only other way in and out of Napa) but you are looking at another couple of miles therefore this still continues to be ironically the easiest way in and out of the valley.

Built in 1894 by R.H. Pithie, the Pope Street Bridge is one of the few remaining 19th Century bridges that cross the Napa River. Standing 175 feet long and only 18 feet wide, the bridge is constructed of rockfaced stone, and because of its width, delivery trucks and buses are not allowed access on the bridge. If you’re ever in the town of St. Helena, you can take a more scenic drive up to Calistoga, or down to Napa by going on to Pope Street and cross the bridge(about 10 seconds) on to the more scenic Silverado Trail… ALOHA!!!
