I’m not an expert on Moroccan food, but the food here is very good and seems very authentic. The portions are great; past reviews suggest that they are meager, but that was not our experience. We had tangine dishes, which are served on plates covered with ornate ceramic covers. We were there on a Saturday evening, and it was not busy. If you make a reservation, they reserve an actual table for you with a reservation sign, which is a nice touch. The wait staff is patient and friendly. This was our first visit, but look forward to going back.

Wonderful cultural experience of authentic Moroccan food and an entertaining foray into learning about the country – a slideshow with pictures of Morocco was displayed on a flat screen TV, and this generated much conversation at our table. We also especially enjoyed that the the owners came out after our meal to talk about the food with us – very interesting to hear about how they preserve their own lemons, what spices they put in the carrot salad, etc. As for the food/drink, the mint tea(hot or iced) is something to try if you’ve never had it. It is brewed fairly strong, but you can still get the mint flavor. It is served in a beautiful silver teapot with traditional Moroccan glasses – a fun drink to order and enjoy with a group! The 7 salads was also a nice assortment of different tastes, as others have said. I also really liked the house salad, but the dressing started to become overpowering at a certain point – probably this is because I’m not very tolerant of tomato based things(too acidic for me generally), and the dressing is a tangy tomato type concoction. I hope that St. Louis gives this place a try – I’d like to see it around for years to come! I will be going back as many times as I can convince my husband to go!

It was not too bad but not too good. Don’t go for dinner if you’re striving cause you’ll have to pay a lot to get full. Plus, their coke is so watery for some reason.

Very authentic, very tasty! We have gotten food from here for takeout on multiple occasions, but we also enjoy the in-restaurant experience. The vegetarian menu is extensive. The appetizers, including the Seven Salads, are filling and taste great. There are a number of good meat options as well, including a large number of lamb dishes. In the restaurant, the wait staff is friendly and had a number of helpful recommendations. The specialty drinks are fantastic. Try the Moroccan sangria. The interior is clean if a bit sparsely decorated. Recommend very highly!

The tagine was our favorite, but the couscous was nice and we loved the vegetarian harira soup and unusually flavored cucumber salad(with mustard in the dressing). I actually wasn’t convinced about the cucumber salad after my first bite but after my third I couldn’t stop eating it. The almond honey briwat was DELICIOUS. I’m a fan of baklava and thought this was even better than most baklava I’ve had, with a great cinnamon flavor. The service was friendly and the owner came outside to find out how we enjoyed our meal, very sweet.

We ordered Harira soup and it was super delicious. They had a deal that if you order 2 appetizer or one main dish you get half of bottle of wine for free, we ordered chicken cuscus and had green tea instead if the wine. Both were great. The owner kept on checking on our food and satisfaction. I really appreciate such owners.

For the quite high price this was not the best restaurant. I have had MUCH better Moroccan food. I had the lamb tagine with artichokes and it was just watery and disappointing all around without very impressive flavors. Even the bread wasn’t too great.

As close to authentic as you possibly can. That being said I’ve had some pretty amazing home cooked a Moroccan food from family friends. The owner himself greeted me and was very gracious. I got to sample the vegetable tagine, and paella, both good. The Harissa is awesome. The owners wife is the one who actually does the cooking. The prices are pretty reasonable and the service is awesome. Definitely worth a try!

Actually, i would like to say, it was tasty food but it was too overpriced. way overpriced $ 17 for a couple slavs of lamb and some beans. And couple pieces of pita bread. Overpriced. Tasty tho. First time eating Moroccan. I could easily grill lamb at home for 6 dollars. Beans were tasty. All a tad too expensive for my taste

Loved the food here. Had Moroccan food for the first time. So I cant really tell if its this restaurant or the cuisine itself thats great! The waiter is really polite. Anyways, I had Chicken Tajine which had a delicious tangy juicy flavor with lemon and olives. The chicken was perfectly cooked. The vegetarian paella was delicious too. The quantities are big for one person.

Love the South Grand district in St. Louis. First time for us there. A little hard for us to find but a couple of Hipster sightings and I knew I was close. We stepped in and rec’d a loud greeting from our server. A tall lanky fella with a booming voice. At least they knew we were there. He worked hard the entire time. This place is a refurbished old storefront with display areas built into the front. We actually were seated in the display area with a rad view of the street. I had some sort of lamb and vegetable stew with freshly made Morrocan bread similar to Naan if you know what that is. My wife had a delicious fish entrée and bread. Both of us had the Mint tea. We wanted a little desert with hot tea. They served something that resembled Baklava. It was fresh, sweet and delicious. We had pulled mint tea to accompany it. Another first for me. All in all, not too bad. I would go back. A lot of other places to try up there! Nice experience.

Very friendly staff. The food was good, if you’re looking to try something new this is a great place. Took a little bit to refill my tea, but it’s not that big of a deal. Overall I enjoyed myself. It’s fun to sit outside and people watch.

Great food, friendly staff, though a tad pricey. One of many great places on grand. Tough to park but the ethnic foods are so worth it! Our server was very helpful for our first Moroccan experience. Suggested a tasty appetizer and I loved their sauces both spicy and savory. Couscous, spiced meats, and plenty of interesting vegetarian options make for great cuisine! Sweet couscous with fruits on top, lamb kabob, and lamb with vegetables over couscous made for some good entrees. I’d highly recommend it! Great use of our groupon!

I first visited Baida a while back and had a good experience. I finally made it back, and once again everything was really good. We walked in for a late dinner around 9:30 on a Thursday. Luckily the kitchen was still open and our server was friendly. For an appetizer, we went with the Bastilla($ 9), described as a «sweet and savory chicken pie». It was a nice large serving of shredded chicken and a phyllo dough crust, and some plum and apricot for sweetness. It was different but really tasty, and the presentation was great. Highly recommended. For entrees we went for the lamb chops($ 23) and the classic chicken tajine($ 15). Both were great… the lamb chops were cooked medium-rare as requested, served on a large bed of delicious flavorful lentils. The chops could have used a bit more seasoning, but otherwise this dish really impressed me. The chicken tajine was also great, with warm comforting flavors and a nice amount of tender meat(1 breast, 1 thigh), along with potato and whole olives. The presentation on both dishes was also very pleasing. You could tell that time and effort was put into everything we ordered. We also got a nice stack of grilled flatbread with our meal, which came in handy to scoop up lentils. We spend about 50 bucks(not including tip) and this satisfied 3 hungry people. I’ll wait until my next visit before awarding 5 stars. I hope that more people stop in and recognize the fantastic and interesting food they serve here. There is currently a Groupon available so there has never been a better time to dive into the awesome world of Moroccan cuisine. Groupon link —

I was excited to hear that a Moroccan restaurant was finally opening in St. Louis. My experience with this North African cuisine is somewhat limited, but I had the great fortune of traveling across this country several years back. I have fond memories of trying exotic stews(tajins), fresh baked round breads, camel meatballs, and most of all… the fresh mint tea. Baida Moroccan Restaurant on South Grand doesn’t have the camel meat, but they do have a nice selection of traditional dishes. After visiting for dinner over the weekend, I’m hopeful that this place can work out their service issues and improve on a few things that could make this place so much better. We started with mint tea. For Moroccans, mint tea is a way of life. It’s like an art form, or a ritual that everyone partakes in. Everywhere you go in the country, someone will offer fresh mint tea loaded with sugar and fresh mint leaves served in a beautifully decorated cup. Unfortunately, the mint tea experience at Baida was nothing like this. Ours came served in a plain white cup, unsweetened and served with one mint leaf in it. There was no sugar to be found on the table, only packets of sweet-n-low. There were no spoons to be found, only a fork and knife. Our waitress, who seemed new and unfamiliar with the cuisine, rounded up these items after several minutes of waiting, but my excitement had fizzled by then. I implore the owner to consider preparing and serving the mint tea in a traditional way. This act alone would bring in more business. For appetizers, we started with the Shakshuka for $ 7 and Shrimp Pil Pil for $ 12. Shakshuka is a traditional North African dish made of tomatoes, peppers, onions and lots of tasty spices like cumin. It comes with a basted egg, or sunny side up egg that’s cooked on top and served with bread to scoop up this delicious sauce. Baida’s version of this could have been a winner, but unfortunately the egg was slightly undercooked. I like a runny yolk, but the egg white was still slightly raw on top of the dish. Fortunately, I was still able to get to the tomato base which was delicious. My favorite dish of the night was probably the Shrimp Pil Pil. The prawns were cooked in an amazing tomato, garlic and cilantro sauce and came served with pita bread. I could have eaten the whole dish on my own. For our entrees, our group of three ordered the Meknas lamb tajine for $ 20, Sahara beef tajine for $ 17, and Kefta meatball tajine for $ 14. My favorite of the three would have been the Kefta Meatball tajine, but like the shakshuka, it came with an undercooked egg on top. Returning the dish would have been too big of an ordeal for me, so once again, I ate around the raw egg white. It was so close to being a 5 star dish. The beef tajine, on the other hand, was cooked perfectly. The tender cuts of sirloin beef braised with carrots, potatoes, mushrooms, onions and a variety of spices was Moroccan comfort food at its best. And finally, the lamb tajine was the most disappointing dish of the night. The lamb was tender and juicy, but the flavors were too bland for me. Overall, I have mixed emotions for this place. By the end of my meal, I had already played out an episode of Restaurant Impossible where I come in and transform this place into a 5 star experience. The main issues that need to be resolved include poor service, bland atmosphere and food execution problems. The owner needs to correct these issues before it’s too late.
