Bandija Paisa is the bomb! I had that for breakfast. Well I went back for lunch and there was a group of soccer fan yelling it up outside cause their team won! They looked a bit rough but hey not afraid of mob of Latino. Lol I ordered the Saturday special of mondongo. Tripe soup it was, something my dad would love. I enjoyed it so much I texted my bro in Chicago. I’ve noticed both order was well, how can I say this, well prepared, with rice beans, plantain, arrepa, avocado as such.

My, my, from looking at the reviewers’ profiles, most are fake reviews. I don’t like when people lie to my face. I was there when they first opened but there wasn’t anything that says that I should come back. I go to the plaza often, and I noticed that there’s never seem to be much traffic out at the restaurant. A few weeks ago, I was full so I didn’t want to order anything but I wanted to know what’s on their menu. I had Colombian food at the Colombian restaurant in Sarasota, north of downtown, on 301 so I know I like it. Since I’m not hungry, I want to try a dessert. My fav is flan. So I asked if they have it, and if it’s «made here». The guy said, «yes, it’s made here.» I said, «Ok, I’ll take some.» He walked to the fridge behind the counter and grabbed what looked to me like packaged food. ITIS!!!(see photo) I thought maybe they have machinery to package their«homemade» dessert. Nope. Flan De Queso and Flan De Caramelo by Presto Foods.

Mi Carreta is in my opinion the BESTCOLOMBIAN restaurant in the whole Tampa, St. Petersburg area. Raised in Colombia I got the taste of what a true Colombian dish should taste like, and no restaurant I tried in this area has the authentic Colombian flavor this restaurant delivers.

Great atmosphere the staff very courteous bit slow on the food or the time between appetizers and main dish(Bandeja paisas 3 of them and a mondo go) although we enjoy great food my guests where constantly asking why it’s taking this long.

My husband and I just had breakfast here. What a great place! The food is delicious and customer service is superb. I ordered Breakfast Bowl with Arepa and Grilled Steak. A minutes later saw someone else having a Tamal and changed my mind. Asked our waitress to check with chef if I could have a Tamal instead and they kindly said Yes! Needles to say I had my Tamal and it was delicious. Now I just wish I lived in the area to have breakfast here everyday. Enjoy!

Delicious food! This was my first time trying Columbian food. I ordered the bandeja paisa and an empanada. The portion is huge! I could only eat half of it(and I’m normally someone who eats way too much in one sitting!) The empanada was delicious! It was flavorful and fresh. The rice and beans were good. My favorite part was the chicharron and sausage. The steak I felt was a bit dry but still seasoned well. All in all it was a delicious meal that I will enjoy the rest of for breakfast tomorrow! Also the staff was very friendly and didn’t make me feel like a ‘gringa’ for not speaking in Spanish. :)

Excellent, fresh food, fast service and the wait staff was incredibly friendly. It has a family feel so don’t let the outside fool you. Haven’t had the Breakfast but the menu looks great.

I’m visiting from out of town, and was looking for some good Latin food. This place is traditional Colombian food, and it’s delicious! The service was good, and the waitresses were very nice. They speak pretty good English if needed.

On a whim, we stopped by La Caterra Columbian bakery in St Pete while passing Saturday. We grabbed a few pastries and they were all quite tasty. We walked in to find there was about 8 tables and the place was packed. They have a restaurant as well and I look forward to trying them. The gentleman that helped us was very friendly and tried talking us into lunch, but we had just finished an earlier lunch. We checked out everybody’s plates on the way out and remarked on how we look forward to coming back and eating lunch or dinner some day soon. The pastries we had were very tasty!

La Carreta… where to start? This place is such a GEM! I’ve never really had truly authentic Colombian food, but I’m definitely a foodie so I jumped at the chance to try this great little spot. My boyfriend tried it for the first time yesterday, and came home to tell me I had to try it. Since today was a scheduled day off from work it was too perfect. He brought a take out menu home for me to peruse the delectable pickings, and my eyes landed immediately on the lengua en salsa criolla. When I got there today I was seated at a 4 top table in a clean brightly lit dining room with the sunshine sharing its warmth. I was greeted at the table by the owner, an affable and personable gentleman by the name of Marlon Yepes. He lives in Tampa but recognized the need for a great mom and pop spot in the ‘burg. He presented several choices of juices, and being familiar and in love with guanabana I asked if it was stocked. He laughed and said of course, so SOLD! I got it mixed with water, but if you prefer you can opt for mixing it with milk. My boyfriend decided on the blackberry juice mixed with water, but after tasting mine, wished he’d gotten the guanabana. I already had my mind made up to get the lengua so that’s what I ordered, and on this trip my boyfriend decided on the bandeja paisa, which came HIGHLY recommended by Marlon. Our food came out freshly cooked within 15 minutes, and boy were we in for a TREAT! My lengua literally was falling apart and cooked to absolute PERFECTION! It was perfectly seasoned, and didn’t have too much salt, which is so nice! Everything was completely fresh all the way down to the pintos(which I had to steal from my bf’s plate because mine didn’t include them). I didn’t mind that though because I was pushing the envelope with how much I’d be able to consume. I just wanted a good taste of the homemade goodness! Next to my lengua was rice that was cooked just right. Not mushy and not too firm. On the end of my plate was a delightful little salad that had lettuce, tomato, and kernel corn with a homemade little dressing that was a nice little palette cleanser. My boyfriend’s plate had a wonderful and flavorful sausage, perfectly tender palomilla steak, fried pork skin, rice, pinto beans, and an egg on the rice. I tried some of the sausage, steak, and beans and was floored at how impeccably seasoned everything was! I wanted to get the tres leches cake for dessert, but they were out. La Carreta orders the desserts fresh, at least the very FEW that aren’t made in house. Marlon brought us a freshly baked chocolate chip cookie which was very good. they also have a flaky guava filled pastry and caramel arequipe that I want to try the next time I go. There are so many fabulous options, and with such a family friendly, and clean place, I’ll DEFINITELY be back!

Absolute Colombian gem in the Tampa area. I was here with my Colombian friend and of course we ordered the traditional bandeja paisa. We were very pleasantly surprised at how quickly the food came out and how tasty the food was. The service was stellar. Definitely going to come back.

Hands down my favorite Latin place in the ‘Burg. I love the empanadas and the sauce. It’s our favorite thing to eat with ice cold beer. I have personally had the steak and onions and it was delicious. The rice and beans were on the money. Also, to complete the visit you must get a pastry for dessert. My favorite is the empanadas de cambry. Great job so far! I can’t wait to see what the future holds for this place!

La Carreta is noted as a Colombian bakery, but they are a full service restaurant as well. It is difficult to tell from the outside of the building, because the front is covered in stock photography so you can’t see inside. Inside is a newly renovated and very clean, café style casual atmosphere and friendly staff. Most of the baked items are heavenly cheese and tapioca flour baked breads, like Pan de Queso. Also, tried Arepa con Queso and Guava Cheese pastry. Bakery items are around $ 1.50 each, so try many different items freely. For dine-in service, there is a waitress that will bring you the food and another important item: the housemade Ahi Sauce. I cannot wait to return back and try their steak and Bandeja Paisa platter.

If you like Colombian food and hate driving to Tampa your prayers have been answered. The Bakery goods were 7 out of 5 Stars! Service was excellent, empanadas were amazing! I have been there a few times and they are consistent so I will give them the last star. They earned it!
